  1. Stand still for 20 minutes and you win
  2. And Nolan has always worked so well with GMs in the past too. That leaves us with no other option than to pin all the blame on Murray.
  3. I guess it just got to be too tough to maintain multiple usernames.
  4. What the hell?
  5. I take it back, Vanek has 2 years left. I didn't realize that stupid NHL numbers has 15-16 listed as the current season already.
  6. With one year remaining? I think someone can find a way to make it work.
  7. The bold part is pretty much the nature of the beast though, isn't it? In the league as a whole, the older guys tend to be the highest paid players. I'm not going to go team by team, but I'd imagine you'd see the same thing with a lot of teams, both good and bad. It's far more about the type of players are in that group is as opposed to their age. Anaheim's got 4 of their top 5 over the age of 30 and I don't think anyone will say the same thing about them. The only place where age is going to sting Minnesota is with Parise and Suter. The others' contracts will be up by the time people will be ready to call them old. They've got a good group of young talent, but unfortunately don't seem to have the right kind of players to complement them.
  8. Thank you. I think you just provided the first ever moment in my life where someone questioned how much gas was left in the tank of a guy who is younger than me. I expect there to be an AARP card waiting in the mail for me later today.
  9. What was it, just the Yzerman connection? They've always seemed to be very happy with Cooper there and throwing him away sure does sound like a panic move to me. He'd get scooped up by someone in a heartbeat.
  10. The bolded point above, I think there's a bit of that, but also a lot of people around here also take themselves and the message board environment itself too seriously. To me, this is a place where people come to shoot the spit and talk about the game a bit. It's not a place to make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied along the way, just so long so you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied and dying along the way. I just wish we could go back to talking about hockey instead of it always becoming about the posters themselves.
  11. Reinhart is going to have all the same bonuses that Eichel will get. As long as he's in the NHL and not the AHL, their cap hits should be near identical.
  12. I found a barbeque place out here that smokes their wings first and then fries them. Maybe it's a common approach at other places, but this was the first one where I actually looked at wings on the menu. I have to say, their process worked out really well. They nailed the crispiness with them. I may be heading there tonight actually, so my mouth is now watering.
  13. How exactly are we losing Johnson and McCormick in a way that takes away their hit to the salary cap?
  14. It's ok, she was way after your time. You probably started tuning out of the popular music scene once they started making those crazy instruments with strings on them.
  15. He posts and then disappears for 6 months. How is that any different from being banned? But anyway, I don't blame the guy. When someone has been insulting you for years in a very public manner, most can only take so much? Professional? No, but I still can't blame anyone for snapping. I for one don't know why a sports discussion has to constantly turn to shredding the people who cover them. Whether it's ESPN hate, WGR hate, or Buffalo News hate, it gets stale really fast, yet it winds up being one of if not the most frequent topics here or any other board. These guys get paid to write about sports, they're not exactly at the peak of society's pecking order. Why do we care about them so much as to mention them constantly? I don't need to see a bunch of letters on a screen or a paper to change one bit of what goes through my mind when watching a game.
  16. There's nothing fantastic about this Friday. In a follow up to my Thursday post, my dad fell again today and fractured his hip. 69 is way too young for this crap. Sorry for threadjacking but I have to say it somewhere and it's not Thursday anymore.
  17. Congratulations Josie, you have now qualified to be drafted by the Calgary Flames.
  18. The aging expert has spoken. Listen to the man, derrico. He learned all of this directly from Socrates himself.
  19. Happy birthday. Did you get the walker I sent you?
  20. Come one, everyone has dabbled in liquid chromatography and mass spec at some point in their lives. I was into that stuff right up through 7th grade until I discovered nuclear particle physics.
  21. Does Babcock like donuts? If so, there's no way he'll go to Toronto where Phil Kessel will constantly be stealing them.
  22. You think most teams are sneaking in after the balls have been measured to alter them? Sure they all play games of some sort, but I doubt many go that far. Of course, since every QB likes them a little different, there's going to be that guy who likes the PSI right in the middle of the range and don't have to mess around at all. The real issue though begins when you go that extra yard to get what you want, get caught, deny it, then blame the league for it. That's where things start to look really bad.
  23. Let us know when you get to the argument over what exactly a magic number is. That was riveting stuff.
  24. Saying anything about Babcock right now would be considered tampering.
  25. On that note, I can't remember the last time I actually saw that called.
