  1. It's just a gut feeling, but I feel like we're watching an eventual career backup in Ullmark.
  2. That coaching staff, at least Hakstol (I have no clue who the assistants are), is Hextall's going off the playbook all or nothing move. You'd have to think that he was probably on his way out anyway if Hakstol was sent packing.
  3. Do you have any idea how many of those "everyone else" points are from when Eichel/Skinner aren't on the ice or at least come from a play where those two did not get a goal/assist? I get the feeling that these numbers undervalue the goal production that Eichel/Skinner bring to any given game.
  4. Thanks. So I fully expect a few "setbacks" during that time frame.
  5. Hopefully he's dumb enough to accept it. There's no way the bank cashes that check.
  6. Redmond doesn't have an NHL contract, so he won't be getting called up. They'd have to sign him in order to do that. He knew what his role would be this year and he willingly signed up for it. I wouldn't be surprised if that's actually playing a big part in his performance. He knows where he's going to be and he's comfortable.
  7. I can't believe it took until the second page for the Airplane! clip. Anyway, I'm not really a coffee guy but I'll have some here at the office since it's free caffeine. They have two different pots (and a 3rd that is caffeine free) and I'll take whichever one is full. I don't bother to add anything to it. Beyond that, I will never pay for a cup. This has to be the perfect thread for an interaction from my house this weekend. My aunt was in town from Buffalo and so was my brother from Florida. Friday morning she asks him "do they have Starbucks in Florida?". I just about fell off my chair.
  8. Is there chatter about Hunwick getting healthy? I may have missed it in the bitch fest. Anyway, I always just assumed him to be the guy who gets stashed away on LTIR the entire season. He'll pull a hammy while riding on the stationary bike at some point if he has to.
  9. So far
  10. Detroit had six guys in that scrum in front of the bench
  11. Id imagine there’s a lot of value in being able to glue him next to the right coach up in the press box during a few games. Let him watch an NHL game with the right voice in his ear.
  12. You want those rankings to really mess with your head? 31 teams, 4 centers per team... 124 centers. Now take a look at the bottom 6 centers on each team. Now play around with any of the higher numbers at other positions.
  13. I’m just going to assume that link is to the TSW Peter Pan guy. That’s the only thing that could save that post.
  14. They've only used 53 checks? Are you sure that isn't the old Golisano Sabre account?
  15. You're missing out. Replacing the Stanley Cup with a giant hot dog? That's the kid of stuff you'll find.
  16. The games played qualifier makes so much more sense now. I can't count the number of times I've seen a guy disqualified from winning the Rocket Richard trophy because he only played 4 games.
  17. Google "Kessel hot dog".
  18. They may very well have not even seen it, depending on if Dahlin's body blocked their viewing angle.
  19. The age factor is a huge one when comparing those two.
  20. Actually, now I'm confused. I just looked at the AHL stats and I see Pilut with 2 PP goals while Redmond is tied for the league lead with 6. Conacher has 1. Did you list the wrong stat there or am I having a total brain fart right now? edit: Ahhhh crap. Points per game instead of powerplay points.
  21. That's an odd qualifier to throw out there. Is there some guy who has only played 1 game but scored 8 PP goals??
  22. Technically his head was the primary point of impact, even though he initiated it. That's probably the main reason why we've never heard of a face check before. They don't sound too useful. I don't care what makes my car run, but that doesn't mean I'm going to mock the mechanic if he tells me how to improve my gas mileage. My entire living deals with numbers similar to a lot of these metrics. So me personally, I'm not interested in it when it comes to an entertainment source like hockey. I understand very well how all of it is used, but that has zero impact on my game viewing experience. But those who do want to focus on it? Go ahead, whatever floats your boat. The one thing I can never stop laughing at though is the so called advanced stats that the broadcast has Rob Ray throwing out there from time to time. They're about as advanced as training wheels.
  23. That's way too sunshine and rainbows for me. Saying that this stuff has no place is great, but guess what, it's still out there and it's not going away any time soon. People need to learn how to deal with it. And let's face it, thanks to the internet and the ratings driven 24 hour news cycle, it has been handed far more opportunities to broadcast those beliefs. Even if they draw in just 1 out of every 1000 people who see/read it, these beliefs are never going to be weeded out.
  24. I won't believe that history is repeating itself unless Smith becomes a horrible announcer.
  25. Of course that's not the ideal way to be learning this stuff, but we really need to stop pretending that this is anything close to an ideal world. ***** happens. Hell, what more evidence do you need of that than the fact that I continue to post on this board?
