For many of us, our curiosity and interest around the Sabres very well may have peaked.
-
How many teams have had two first overall picks under 25 as their top 2 defenseman? The team won’t succeed this way. There is a reason 35 year old dmen are still a thing. Experience matters. Every season teams grab one or two grizzled vets at the deadline just for this reason. The Sabres almost make it impossible unless they a supplement with more veterans. Is Bowen Byram an ideal player for Dahlin? Kesselring might the right kind of player for Power but he could use another 5 seasons under his belt. The whole process is flawed. You can’t win with a bunch of kids.

In our first house, 25yrs ago, they changed our water meters and back billed us like $3k for underpayment. That hurt.
-
I noticed there was a truck from the Water Department parked out in front of the house. There was a guy working on the water meter. I walked over and asked him what was going on, and he said he was replacing our electronic water meter. Apparently it hasn't been reading correctly since last December, so our water bill was WAY down. The guy from the Water Department said they wouldn't try to back bill or anything since it's on them to make sure the equipment is functioning properly. The bad news is we'll be paying our fair share again.

Former Sabre Jaroslav Halak retires

Halak's retirement does prompt me to have some (renewed) hope for Levi in the NHL. Physically, they're almost carbon copies of each other. And I don't think there's any doubt that Levi is more athletic than Halak ever was. It just becomes a question of whether Levi can become as clever and skilled as Halak was. -

By trading Peterka he put a lot of eggs into the Kesselring basket, he is expected to not just play in the top 4, but to improve the top 4. I sure hope he can kill penalties and give us 20-21 minutes. -

Is Adams done with his "overhaul" of the Sabres 25-26 roster?
JohnC replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I don't see KA making any other moves of significance. He's placed his bet on the young players that include Quinn, Kulich, Benson, Power and even Samuelsson. His biggest gamble is betting on UPL as his goalie. A couple of years ago, he showed promise; while last year he developed a lot of bad habits and regressed. For the most part, KA has not deviated too much from counting on the players within the system. He's also made a few good deals, such as for McCleod, Zucker and Greenway to better round out the roster. In my view, the blue line is improved so that might be a factor in UPL playing better. Will the Sabres make the playoffs? I think that it is attainable if the blue line unit and our big goalie play consistently solid for the season. Am I confident about the upcoming season? Anyone who fairly evaluates this roster can't be fully confident about the upcoming season. However, if the two things fall into place regarding the goaltending and blueline unit play better, then at least we should be in the playoff race for most of the season. I'm aware that I'm being squishy in my prognostication but that's how I see things playing out. -

I view the lack of emphasis on experience as a consequence of obsession on statistics. As teams tried to find types of players that could project to be players from the past, and manage the cap station, they lost the mentorship and culture players needed to grow into those projections. Then we had ‘development’ focused coaches which doubled down on making things worse. Coaches who never understood a damn thing about building culture, but teaching each player they are a special snowflake and the grass is always greener on your next team. The thing players need to hear in a summer camp, not in the big league Now we are in the ‘everyone is 28’ time period, where the hope is guys are competing to be in their prime as a way to ensure there’s motivation for leadership and accountability to develop in the room. I agree this is way better than hand selecting 22yos and expecting ***** to pan out, but there’s still maturity outside of the room. Matt Moulson and Okposo were just the wrong kinds of leaders. They’re good people, just not the cut throat accountability Nazi the team needs out of a vet. The guy who is only there because he works hard, not because he has raw talent. Yet he’d go to war if someone cheap shotted the rookies he hazes day in and out. We just didn’t have that latter part. And didn’t even try to cover the gap with a goon. We just let the kids wallow in no accountability and positive reinforcement useless development coaches. And did nothing when the evander kane, Zach Bogosian bad influences rotted out the room. At least there’s a shred of hope that ‘tougher to play against’ isn’t only measure in height and weight, but attitude as well. The kid Doan and the obsession with Bensen is my hope Lindy at least knows it right. Those 4th liners last season had none of it tho. Average age can be thrown off too much by a couple players. Give me the median -

I guess Montreal getting in last year is evidence to support it could happen. Also, the Sabres missing by a point 2 years ago is similarly evidence that it is possible. Adams continues to try to accomplish the unlikely though. The hockey DB page lists a player's age at the start of training camp as their age for that season (at least it seems that is what they do). Connor Timmins is the oldest of our d-men who are likely to be the 6 roster players for game one (injuries aside). He will be listed on the Sabres 25-26 roster page on the hockey DB site, as being in his age 26 season. Dahlin, Samuelsson, and Kesslering will be in their age 25 years. Byram 24. Power 22. Looking back at the last 5 years, the only playoff team with a D that young is the 20-21 Avalanche. They of course, had elite level forward talent. Obviously our defenseman as individuals, are all capable of helping a team into the playoffs. Byram and Timmins were on that Avalanche team. I don't understand what Adams has against bringing in additional veteran players though. He certainly is not acting like a GM who is under any pressure from the owner to get in the playoffs any time soon. -
Is Adams done with his "overhaul" of the Sabres 25-26 roster?
GASabresIUFAN replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Despite my agreement that Adams is likely done, I have two ideas that would make this next edition of the Sabres better. If I were Adams I’d sign Jan Rutta and Jack Roslovic to 1 year deals. Rutta gives the defense a 3rd RHD and a veteran Cup winning leader who can still play. I’d then let Samuelsson, Rutta and Timmons battle in camp to see who is the 5/6/7 D. I’d then punt Byrson. Roslovic gives the Sabres a proven (if inconsistent) C/W who can be chippy, can play up and down the lineup and can score. I think the Roslovic is great insurance in case of injuries, or guys like Doan, Danforth, Quinn, or Kulich prove not to be ready for prime time. I can see him also beating out Krebs for the 4C job. This guy was a 45 pt player for Jarmo’s Blue Jackets. Admittedly both moves are unlikely, but we have the cap space and both are better players than guys slated to make the roster next season. -

Adams has the best work in the world. He do nothing and gets a lot of money.. -
I stand corrected - he's a "media personality". Which i guess is just a famous fan at this point.
-
Honestly, I’m not sure they’ll ever be competitive until they get into the upper half of the league in experience. It means something. In every walk of life, I have to imagine, sports even more so. Sheer talent isn’t just going to translate into winning. They need guys who have been there and done it.

They tried to fabricate a similar rivalry with Clark and Angel Reese. To this point, it doesn’t seem Reese is good enough to make it a rivalry.

It’s absolutely about creating distraction and chaos so that media focus goes elsewhere. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t serious about this crap at the same time. Regarding China, they’ve been expanding their global influence for 30+ years now, especially in Africa and the Middle East. The boneheaded decision to do away with USAID has been a godsend to China and other actors. They are filling the vacuum we left as I type this.
