Drag0nDan Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Tuch's the main piece that i don't think anyone wanted KA dealing with. I felt like we're either going to overpay, or lose the trade. Beyond that the main pieces that I'd consider moving out: UPL - Has played more here than Ullmark, Lehner and everyone else post-miller. He is not good. Byram - Just hasn't found it here ( I think this could be "or Power" but if it took forever to get a 2 year deal done with Byram, i just don't see the necessary mutual interest) Malenstyn - He's played a lot better this season, but is expiring this season Greenway - Like his length and PK, but he's slow as molasses and doesn't offer much O for what he gets paid. Quinn - There are always little glimpses of him being a really good player, and then he goes invisible. He's looked better no longer riding on the Cozens line, and i fear the value of the return makes it not really worth it. He's a piece in a larger trade package I'd have to say. Then there are the young players like Östlund, Rosen, and Kulich - You probably don't want all 3 in your opening day lineup next year, and there's no reason to put them in the AHL. Porous Five Hole Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago GMJK had to have autonomy assurances, right? I know opinions range on Pegula’s influence from Absent to Meddler, but an industry veteran (player, scout, GM) doesn’t take the job unless he knows he has the keys, right? RIGHT? 2 1 1 Quote

They clearly brought in Jarmo this offseason with the plan that if it didn't work, Kevyn would be replaced by him. Right. Was it not reported that the job was declined a few times? It’s very typical for them to make the easy decision. A legitimate GM search (I’m guessing) would have included more impressive names. Next steps are telling. With Kevyn should be the rest of that front office. Jarmo has certainly had the time to reach out to his network and build a new staff. Quote

JoeSchmoe Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Adams gone=good... but Jarmo has never been a good at GM'ing either!!!! Just more stark proof that the Sabres' lack of success is Terry driven. 1 Quote

And really, sounds like it might have been timed with Kekäläinen's family issues back home. He may take another few days in Finland, working remotely, and then will assume his duties in Buffalo. Sabrejak Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Not a big fan of people losing their jobs, and at the same time. thank goodness! Is Jarmo allowed to block the Owner's calls, or at least have them go straight to voicemail? Because if not then this is just another step on the treadmill. 1 Quote

If it’s Seth, then this tells me that Jarmo doesn’t have true autonomy to make changes. If it’s not Seth, then well…maybe better days are coming. I'd be okay with Interim Seth and see what's available after the season. The risk is that Interim Seth gets us to the playoffs, loses the interim tag, and was maxed out just making the playoffs. 1 Quote
Jorcus Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Well the long over due day finally came. I won't say I am happy about it because firings represent failure. This team needed a new set of eyes and it is getting them. I wonder what Jarmo's philosophical pitch will be? The two that stood out for me with Adams were he wanted to build a pipeline and he wanted the group to grow up together. I will say that he did deliver on the first part. I don't think the Amerks had any legit NHL prospects when Adams took over. Of course it's easier to build a pipeline if you are in the lottery year after year but still you have to nail a few picks to get it done. The second part in retrospect was the wrong way to go about it. Maybe all coming up together was the way it happened for him in Carolina but in our case there were too many young players floundering around without veteran support. I look at Chicago and think maybe that will turn out to be the better way. Well most of the group is old enough now but they should be much further along then they are now. Then there is a stylistic philosophy that Adams seemed to promote with the highly mobile quick out of the zone attack that Ruff signed on to direct. I wonder if this is going to change or be continued. I would guess Jarmo would look at this team and say you suck at puck possession and we are going to do something about that. It's wait and see for if Jarmo can move the needle without ripping another roster up. Quote
CallawaySabres Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Now they need to hire the first legit coach that is fired from a team where the message has staled. There are always some top guys let go because they have been there too long. Buffalo does not owe Lindy anything, especially at the expense of the fans. Don't wait until the end of the season. Try to save us as soon as possible. 1 1 Quote

I guess he could probably be a good assistant to the Assistant Athletic Director for the ECC Kats (It is always bonkers to me that the local CC spells cats with a K (Kats)) Where he ends up in hockey or in other fields. Pretty sure his time in THIS organization is at an end. 1 1 Quote
