GASabresIUFAN Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Jones replaces Metsa as the 7th D as Metsa jumps into the starting lineup (most likely), but who is Östlund in for? Danforth? Did someone else get hurt? Quote
Flashsabre Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Jones for Bryson but I wonder who Östlund is for other than Danforth Östlund plays a game the Sabres desperately need (playmaking centre) Wonder if he is ready to make an impact. Edited 6 hours ago by Flashsabre 1 Quote

I focused on him last night and he was all over on both ends of the ice. Incredible stamina. First impression was a slightly smaller, faster O’Reilly type. 200’ player. 1 Quote

I went and looked at the Sabres healthy forwards with Greenway, Danforth, and Norris out and this is what we have Benson Kulich Thompson Tuch McLeod Zucker Quinn Krebs Doan Gersteen Kozak and …..? Östlund enters the roster, but who slides to the 4th line? Krebs? Quote

DarthEbriate Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Hmm. If Greenway was about to come back, who exactly is Östlund stepping in for? Did another player get dinged up last game? Quote

Needed him against Florida, Montreal maybe not 1 Quote
JohnnyK Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago What is with the Malenstyn hate....he has block like a 1,000 shot on the PK this year and can both take a hit as well as give a hit! Have you not watched the last two games???? ps asking for a friend!!!! 1 Quote

Have you not watched the last two games???? ps asking for a friend!!!! He has paying 81 games for the Sabres and has exactly 10 pts. He is -2 this season after -16 last season and we paid a 2nd rd pick for him. The guy we didn't sign, Eric Robinson, who we acquired for nothing the year prior had 14g and 32 pts last year for Carolina while being physical and killing penalties, has 3 pts in 5 games this season and he could have been retained for about 9k vs the 1.35 we are paying Malenstyn to suck. PS the draft pick we gave up for Malenstyn is Cole Hutson. Malenstyn is so useless, Lindy can only play him 9 minutes a night. Geertsen is averaging 11+ a game. Quote

Beck had a very good game Saturday afternoon. He played quite a bit as the Sabres had 7 minor penalties. He’s a good second pairing on the PK. Tuch and McLeod, above average and both played elite yesterday. He also had three blocked shots on the PK. Malenstyn also played a significant role in adding energy and providing hits against Florida when playing 5v5. And I’m not talking about stat sheet hits that really aren’t hits. His three registered hits were all solid. We need more of this guy, bc as you pointed out, the super-genius GM overpaid for Beck when Robinson was out there for free. He’s a better option, and cheaper than Zemgus was/is. But your point about his -16 last year is a concern. 1 Quote

Malenstyn is better than what you say about him, but we didn’t need him, especially for a 2nd rounder, when Robinson could have been retained. It sucks that Cole Hutson was that pick. Ouch! Quote

It sucks that Cole Hutson was that pick. Ouch! In fairness, Robinson was terrible when we had him. He was terrible in Columbus the year before too. Pretty tough to crystal ball he would have improved that much. Also in fairness, Malenstyn does suck, but his numbers were probably dragged down somewhat by Lafferty who was by a wide margin our worst forward. 1 Quote
