pastajoe Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Sabre Sickos because there’s something wrong with us to still be supporting this team. 1 Quote
In The Buff Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago yeah its hard to come up with a cool, tough sounding nickname when your team has been 1 of the softest & worst teams for a generation. Maybe Sabres Suckers? Sabres Softees? Pastajoe has the Sickos one covered lol 1 1 Quote

Eli Cash Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Seems like a very strange time to come up with a branding name for the fan base. Maybe generate some sustainable excitement on the ice, allow for some interest to build, act like you have an interest in keeping your fans, and then worry about coming up with a fun moniker for the fan base? Yes. But IIRC they hired a new Marketing VP recently. So, that would make the timing make more sense. 1 Quote
SwampD Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago 21 hours ago, That Aud Smell said: The apparent Mister Rogers' themed introduction notwithstanding, I always took Sabrehood to be a riff on group-belonging concepts like brotherhood, sisterhood -- a belonging to a group with common ties. It's fine. Every pro team needs a branded group name to use. And honestly, there are so many cranky yell at clouds posters here. I changed my vote from "i don't care" to "i like it" just to balance out the grumps a bit. I don’t agree with this at all. It implies that it’s a beautiful sunny day and they are yelling at the one cloud in the sky. We’re in a 14 year hurricane about to be 15. I don’t need to be branded. What’s wrong with “Sabres fans”? 1 Quote

"Yells at cloud" isn't specific to the Sabres. It's just a generalized internet-meme-generated characterization of a certain kind of cranky, grumpy behaviour. You may not need to be branded. I'm sure you don't want to be branded. But the people who work in marketing for the franchise needed a brand. They settled on Sabrehood (for now). I don't (can't) imagine that an NHL franchise's marketing team would roll out a PR campaign based on #SabresFans. I mean - c'mon. Like I said, I initially voted "meh - who cares." And that's really where I land on the issue. I only switched my vote to "I like it" because I was so bummed out by all the griping on this thread. Quote

The franchise is promoting its Sabrehood brand everywhere at the moment and has been doing so for some time. When the European d-man was drafted (Mrtka (sp?)), the team's social media platforms welcomed him to the Sabrehood. Sabrehood was featured in multiple PR events and published recaps that the franchise did in the preseason. (One example -- https://www.nhl.com/sabres/multimedia/galleries/photos-sabrehood-summer-tour-2025-tops ) Sabrehood was emblazoned on the rally towels in the arena last night. 1 Quote
That Aud Smell Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Sheeeyit. They did a huge promo piece for it at the start of last season. https://www.nhl.com/sabres/video/welcome-to-the-sabrehood-6363052964112 Watching that video again, I get it why people view the brand as a physical, geographic neighbourhood. Yet another reason to hate social media. I don't like Sabrehood. Seems forced. At least Bills Mafia came about organically. Quote
