I would not have traded Peterka for Rossi however unless they added. I think I liked Peterka more than average here and I am pretty pissed we moved him for what we did but Rossi instead of him doesn't really fit with where this roster needs to go, especially if you are convinced Norris will play and be a solid 1C. Here's my question though. How much better than Will Borgen is Kesselring? Because to me Kesselring is 50% Borgen 50% Jokiharju so he's more well rounded than either of them but we're basically not making progress. Tough kid, bigger... tougher and maybe not quite the skater as Joker but better passer imo. Quote

While hate seeing him go I also mentioned this off-season Kesselring as a target to add. So have mixed feelings but there's still lots of off-season to go to see how much more we add or lose. Quote

I really don't know why people think Kesselring is all that special. He has some potential but he really isn't proven top 4. I have no problem adding him, but Peterka is at a higher value level. I suspect Adams was truly worried about an offer sheet and they didn't want to pay him at a higher level after Cozens and Samuelsson. Peterka isn't Reinhart, but there are similarities here in terms of how the organization disfunctions. 2 Quote

Peterka isn't Reinhart, but there are similarities here in terms of how the organization disfunctions. Adams (Pegula, since... COVID? Since EEE for sure, because at least previously he was swinging for the Leino fences) operates out of fear. The easy read is Kesserling was a target, and the Mammoth were prepared to offer the 7.7M as an offer sheet for Peterka. That's a 2026 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for a player who wants out (which Adams has to honor because that's his M.O. and also avoid the contractual obligation) and all futures, which is against their "win now, but cheap" mentality. Instead, Adams got a player he coveted who can immediately step into the lineup and another roster player. And they're both RFAs this summer and next so they are cheap and fit into the EEE mold. RFA Doan is this summer's RFA Malenstyn -- though with higher upside. If the team struggles, Kesselring gets shopped for the next 1-year-to-RFA rental. The JBD, the Byram, etc. Quote

Thing is Kesselring has size shown to a consistent .33 point per game producer which ain't bad for a 2nd pairing Dman. I'm hoping he's a Mike Ramsey type but might be lofty expectations at the very least Richard Shmelik. Quote

If they trade Byram we are no longer better on D but maybe the D is slightly different. If we trade Byram for a winger said winger puts up 25-30 goals we are exactly the same with more shuffled deck chairs and an internal cap. 1 2 Quote

I hate losing JJP but it definitely feels he wanted it out or Adams didn't want to point up the money for him. Either way I like the compensation of players vs picks that might have been all we got if somebody signed him up an offer sheet. Quote

To me, he's everything you claim to hate about the Sabres. You'd also think that a guy who has been pounding the keyboard for years for size, grit, discipline, culture etc. might be at least moderately intrigued by an attempt to add players who are both cut from precisely that cloth. Don't get me wrong, I'm not surprised you don't like the trade; On the contrary, I'd be surprised if you did. The one position you are very consistent in taking is "If the Sabres did it, it was probably the wrong move." And I understand how that's the safest path. I mean, when has it ever steered you wrong? 😁 Edited 4 hours ago by dudacek 1 1 Quote

Changes yes, but you see my list would have been you can trade anybody except Dahlin, Thompson, Tuch, Peterka and Benson and that's about it. Power would necessitate a great return but even he'd be a possible. So Adams moved one of my 5 untouchables and Utah looks pretty good. Quote

I mean, when has it ever steered you wrong? 😁 Absolute bs. 1. Yes, I advocate adding grit because that is what the Sabres lack, but I am consistent in saying you need to build a balanced roster. Peterka is a pure goal scorer and they do not come along easily. You need a top 6 talent core and a bottom 6 to balance that. A mix of veterans and youngsters. It's not that hard, but Buffalo is idiotic and frustrating. You don't replace Peterka's production easily. 2. Pure rubbish that I'm against every move. I was in favor of the McLeod trade and advocated for more similar deals. Under Adams I think that's the only good one. Where's the progress? Adams still here. Listen to any podcast you want. Take your pick. Find me one that says Adams is a good GM and is doing a good job. Just one. I guess they are all taking the safest path too. John Scott actually gets it right here.
