Here's a random idea that could be a clever way to get another scorer

Max Pacioretty, he's still unsigned and still wants to play

Played very solid in the playoffs for the Leafs and even increased his hitting. In lieu of trading for a more assured upgrade; I'd throw him a 1mil contract with a few incentives and just see how it goes

Have to be careful on putting too many incentives into a contract like that because anything that would put them over the cap will be added to the $6.4MM Skinner dead cap next season.

But like the outside the box thinking.

We could do a lot worse then Patches on a one year deal

Even Roslovic wouldn’t be bad, but he is prone to the odd stretch of uninspired play

thats why patches makes sense, he clearly still has it. Might be a bit slower, but he still plays the game the right and is still mean and tough, I’d take a shot

Would prefer him to Rust.

Costs nothing but cap space.

Lot of talk that he's made a deal with the Leafs, just waiting for another shoe to drop before they make it official.

That's the trick, we are doubtful to get within 5mil of the cap ceiling so we can go 1 mil + 3mil in production/games played based incentives

Plus you can convince Pegula of the possibility he doesn't hit all 3 incentives

Pacioretty will be lucky to get to 40 games during the season.  I wouldn't expect him to be hitting many incentives unless they're so incredibly basic.  But anyway, I'm not interested in him.  I bet he winds up as a PTO somewhere.

39 points across 89 games in the last 3 seasons, and he turns 37 this season.  I'm not sure he's worth much more than league minimum, in which case he might as well just wait to see if he can latch onto a contender for league min.

I still want Voronkov, maybe a deal around Voronkov and Severson? Perhaps he would waive to come play for Lindy again.

Canucks trade Mr. Joshua to Leaves for a fourth.

A 4th? A freaking meaningless 4th? 1) wtf are the Canucks smoking lately? and 2) could Kevy not have offered more? Is it really 12 team no trade bs again? Terry's really f'd this up.

Apparently X is saying he had a 12 team no trade clause.

I would have hoped we tried.

Maybe the fact that he was a 14-point forward (57 GP) last season has something to do with it.

EDIT:  78 points in 241 GP.  Not setting the world on fire.

Cancer sucks.
Joshua lost quite a bit of speed following his return from testicular cancer surgery.

Hopefully for him, he returns to form now that he will have sufficient time to recover and a proper offseason. But, if his performance last year is his new floor…then it is a very bad contract.

The Canucks are trying to free up cap space to spend on the center spine. This was a logical contract to move for them.

Have no problem with the guy having a full recovery from cancer.  Do wish him well.  But can we wish his improved play to begin the day AFTER the Loafs trade him away for pennies on the $?

True, but you're not adding him for points. You're adding him to make your line up tougher. That "harder to play against" mantra we heard Ruff and Adams use here. Also to open up space for your supposed skill players to do what they do.

Leafs are managing to turn themselves into a more balanced hockey team now that they aren't salary heavy in the big top 4. 2 1/2 much easier to manage than 4.

He wouldn’t of been a good pick up due to Greenway being retained however had he been traded or walked I would of approved

I wish him great health and zero NHL success for the next 3 seasons 😉

We already added a younger version of him, Doan. I don't see much value in adding Joshua at this point unless you're able to move Greenway out, which I doubt they can.

Ruff sees Greenway (and Zucker) as leaders on this team.  (Not replacing Dahlin but supporting him, Tuch, and Thompson.)  Doubt either one would go out the door this off-season.  (But, suppose for the right deal ... just doubt it'll be there.  The Sabres value him likely more than anybody esle would at this point in time.)

I was kinda down on the zucker and Greenway signings as meh over pays at the time.

But looking at what the free agent market ended up being and what players moved over the summer they look a little wiser.

Not seeing guys like Joshua and Marchment as big upgrades - roster or. Interact - and no guarantee we could have got them.
