I’m going to call BS on that stat.  There is no way that 14.7% 5 on 5 is an NHL record.

I also disagree that a regression is going to happen.  The kid has improved all 3 NHL seasons.  He may top out as a 75 pt guy, but how many forwards of even that level have we drafted and developed since the tank?  2, Eichel and Reinhart who were both 2nd overall picks.  We didn’t draft Thompson.

You made the succinct potent point as to why he shouldn't be dealt. None of us really know what the player wants to do. Is he maneuvering for a gilded long-term contract or is he another disillusioned Sabre player who wants to get the freak out of this toxic waste franchise. Who can criticize someone for desiring a better chance for individual and team success. This is what happens when a franchise becomes known for its generational failure and understandably is not a destination for players not only outside the system but also within it. The organization needs to do everything within reason to keep him.

Seravalli's latest:

Scoop: There may be no better player available, period, on the trade market this summer – let alone one of Peterka’s age at 23, already a top-line producer. Embattled Sabres GM Kevyn Adams previously said he has no interest in trading Peterka, but he’s apparently come around on the inevitability. He declined to say Tuesday whether Peterka requested a trade. More than a handful of teams have expressed legitimate interest: both the Rangers and Islanders, Lightning, Mammoth, Blackhawks and Canucks, and they’re not alone. Buffalo is determined to get an impact roster player back for the present as opposed to futures.

What do we think of JJ for Jordan Kyrou?

A new name that’s out there, seems kinda sideways for me, but he is a youngish veteran with term.

Kinda looks like the Cozens/Norris move.

If JJ gets offer sheeted we’ll end up with ~ $30M of our cap between JJ, Muel, Power, and Norris.   In about 3 years that may be a deal but it’s a stretch for next season.

Then trade Muel to a team with cap room to spare for a bag of pucks.

Jordan's 4 years older than JJP but I mean it isn't a horrible move toss in does give us another right handed shot. Only issue since it's a 1 for 1 are we doing anything to improve the team? Not really so we'd still need another top 6 player IMO and a top 4 RHD and Goalie to pair with UPL or Levi and $8million less of cap room.

He is better than Peterka right now though as a full hockey player from end to end.  Assuming they want Peterka in the trade (I think they could make a case for Byram)... You probably want tage back at center and it'd look something like:

Benson - Tage - Tuch

Zucker - Norris - Kyrou

Kulich - Mcleod - Quinn

Greenway - Krebs - Malenstyn

It will be incredibly depressing if the Sabres trade Peterka.  Why would a team that has failed to make the playoffs for 14 years be trading a player that is considered to be the top asset (only 23 years old) available this offseason?  Sabres can't continue to be the development team for quality players that will be traded for much less value to teams with quality front offices and organizations.

I'm not quiet in my disliking Benson on the top 2 lines.

I guess “we’re gonna build through the draft” isn’t quite working.

Benson is going to blow your doors off.

And he’s good at hockey

At face value this take doesn’t suck but his underlying metrics are special. He’s got it.  Whatever it is.  He has it in droves and he’s a dick on the ice.

Double whammy.  He’s giving final say on this.

And giving it to a GM that might be gone by Thanksgiving.

Canadian?

Tage reminded us that he has some history with Kyrou from the Saint Louis days. Honestly Tage deserves to play with developed NHL players. Kyrou is that. Benson and Kulich are not.

If you consider these two players to be comparable or close to it, then the follow up question should be which of these two players have more upside?

Unless there is more going on than we are aware of: don’t trade JJP.

Upside in their careers, or upside this season?

Jordan Kyrou is a better hockey player right now than JJ Peterka.

He’s not going to get better. JJ Peterka might.

He’s not going to get worse. JJ Peterka might.

His worst full seasons are 27 goals and 67 points. Peterka’s best full seasons are 28 goals and 68 points.

And what about the next follow-up question: which of these two players have more downside?

The way you lay out the comparison I am even more convinced that it would not be wise to swap these players. As far as the potential downside for JJP I would say that the concern for his slide would be minimal because over the last couple of years in his early career he has already demonstrated improvement. So although I wouldn’t be foolish in guaranteeing that he won’t slide back, I’m comfortable in expecting upside.

And which of these two have games better suited to playoffs and the grind to get there?
