I will swap the Leafs failures of the last decade over the Sabres failures of the last decade every time. Why are people so weird with this stuff? Quote

The Bills are on the verge of a Super Bowl but some fans act like they are utter failures. Anything short of a title is unacceptable. As someone once admitted here, the Sabres making the playoffs would not change a thing. The point is to always be miserable about something. Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago And what a glorious, oh-so-Leafs elimination it was! 1 Quote

That in itself is a freaking disgrace that opposition fans are more willing to attend than hometown fans. You want to be mad about the situation? Focus your venom on the obtuse owner with the big boat who has crushed this franchise and fanbase with his foolishness. And it should be noted that his absurd ridiculousness has been going on for a generation. If you don't live amongst Leafs fans and their media, I can respect how you think we observers are just being petty. But when you're like me- a Sabres fan in Southern Ontario going back to the days when the Islanders were winning cups, you've seen and heard enough that this day is special. It's day when Sabres fans, Habs fans, Bruins fans, and anyone else from the area can come together as one... To celebrate another year of that oft talked about Yonge St parade not happening for another year. 🍻🥂 Quote

My point is simply that being gleeful at another team's failures, when their failures are still miles ahead of your own puny successes, is ridiculous. Pathetic losers who derive satisfaction at snickering at people who failed yet are more successful than the biggest losers in the chortling crowd should show some grace and be silent. You may not be aware of it but you are embarrassing yourself when you do that. (Not singling out anyone but stating my comments in general.) It's like a 300 lb. slob telling a person who is a few pounds overweight that they are fat. The lack of self-awareness is stunning. I apologize if I'm coming off as a scold. It's not my intention to be judgmental. But being a Sabre fan under the ownership of a fool owner has resulted in skewing how a lot of people view things. It’s because you are missing the point: it’s less about celebrating another team’s failures as it is the leafs failures being positioned to suggest the sabres “actually aren’t that bad”. You get that that’s the play, right? 2 hours ago, PromoTheRobot said: The part about swapping for the Leafs failures is laughable. mjd1001 Posted 35 minutes ago Report Posted 35 minutes ago Matthews is not a bad player dragging the team down, but I think he is their biggest issue. You simply cannot have one of the highest paid guys (Is he THE highest paid right now) in the league that doesn't do much in the playoffs. A guy who scored at close to (or over) a 50 goal rate/pace for most of his career, scores at barely a 30 goal rate in the playoffs, and just doesn't seem to have any 'extra gear' in the playoffs like other superstars do, or if he has it he doesn't care enough to use it. Great player, but not so in the playoffs. For what he is getting paid, he needs to be more than a regular season wonder-kid. Quote

Dislike of the Leafs predates Pegula. A lot of it has to do with Leafs' fans, and some of it has to do with the NHL Official Review in Toronto, and the partisan rooting by ex-players and sense of entitlement. Just sayin'. Personally, would take the last 14 years of any squad EXCEPT the Yotes and Seattle. The Yotes because sneaking into the dance through the Covid play-in (that the Sabres would've qualified for had the league shut down 2 days earlier; & likely would've qualified for if it shut down 1 day later) is in no way shape or form worth the annual will we or won't we lose our team with that answer eventually finally ending up last year being "yup, you lose your team" and Seattle because their non-existance for the 1st 10 or so years of the drought and missing the playoffs in all but 1 of the few remaining years is less desireable than having what we've had for the last 14. Might take the Sabres plight over that of a handful of others; would have to think about it. But ottomh, the Yotes and Kraker fan bases are the only ones that haven't had an appreciably better 14 years than the Sabres fans have had. But that doesn't make watching the Biff Tannens of the league get their comeuppance any better or worse. They are 2 distinct items and some can view them in that light. To Biffs everywhere, enjoy your carload of digested oats as I get ready to take another run at that football. Know I'm gonna kick it THIS time. For sure. Well, maybe. Possibly. 1 Quote
