I think the one thing Terry misjudged in all of this, is that by doing the very least amount possible, like literally nothing, he's out the final nail in the coffin to convince literally everybody on the planet that he is THE PROBLEM in Buffalo.

Like, he could still half ashed dodged the bullet had he fired Adams like everybody on the planet was screaming for him to do.

By not firing Adams I think he actually made Buffalo an exponentially worse destination than it already is. And that isn't hyperbole.

It's still not too late. Fingers crossed but it's a wet dream

I know we are all riding the JA17 high, but I don't know how anybody isn't terrified of the post McBeane/Allen era assuming Pegula is still walking the earth.

I truly believe he can permanently ruin all of Buffalo sports if given the opportunity.

OR he could finally luck into the right guy in Buffalo for the Sabres and reluck into someone good for the Bills.  Heck, the Steelers were THE joke in the NFL for pretty much the enitrely of their existance until Chuck Knoll and "L'il Abner" (Bradshaw) showed up.  And they're still on only their 3rd HC in the last 1/2 century since.

Wouldn't have ANY money on it.  But would anybody in 1965 have seen the Stillers becoming THE team of the following decade and a perennial model of consistency since.

I think the Sabres are facing three contract issues:

  • Byram wants a bigger role
  • Peterka wants to get paid
  • Tuch wants to know things are going to get better.

Management needs to navigate each of those situations while making the team better.

Aren’t you glad Kevyn is in charge.

Byram can walk for whatever we can get for him. His defensive metrics have been bad his entire career, including being a sub 50% expected goals against on COL which is almost impossible to do on a team that good. In his entire career, he's only had good numbers while playing with Dahlin... but everybody has good numbers with Dahlin. Addition by subtraction.

We can pay Peterka. No reason not to. Even a bridge deal.

Last year we were a defenseman and a goalie away from being playoff worthy. If we can trade Byram for a less flashy guy that's good at defense AND we somehow get a goalie, I think we're good. If I believe that (and I was one of the few that voted Sabres aren't making the playoffs on last year's preseason poll), then Tuch can too.

You have no idea how depressing this post of yours is.  Not because it acknowledges that Pegula had the right guy in his final 2 but chose the wrong guy; but because just like the other "rght" guy he didn't select with his 1st crack (thanks to the wonder that was Russ Brandon) the "right" guy was still available when the wrong choice was punted.  But unlike with the Bills where he made THE right choice with the do over; he made the wrong choice again and that "right" choice was bumped up to GM elsewhere a few months later.

The reality that Pegula got 2 cracks at making the right choice with both teams but only did so for 1 hit like a ton of bricks reading this. Wi

They could've had Bill Zito running that bridge season where they tried one final time to make a team built around Eichel work.  Fack, we could've still had that entire core (well, minus O'Reilly because he was already gone) still here.

Such a depressing summer and we're still more than 3 weeks from it officially being summer.

I read a story about Zito’s leadership style. He said he has surrounded himself with some smart hockey people who will challenge him. He wants a diversity of ideas and will hear them out before making a decision. The people he mentions as advisors are Rick Dudley, Paul Fenton, Roberto Luongo, Gregory Campbell, Les Jackson and a few others.

JFC this is about to go completely south and I can’t think of anyone I would want overseeing this less than Adams. And part of me wants to see a complete implosion since this is what Terry deserves.

Is it implying Power and Muel are unhappy with the direction of the team?

Thats what I took it as.  Which discredits this nonsense immediately.  Those are the last 2 guys that should be unhappy about anything because they’re the main reason we aren’t reaching our ceiling.

Owen Power.  I’ve said this 1000x.  That’s the pick that’s setting us back right now.  He’s got a good shot and some time to figure it out.  But man.  I watch these D men in the playoffs and Power plays NOTHING like these guys.

If Muckler or heck even Darcy were running this team a hockey trade involving Power would have already happened.  Like trading Mike Wilson for Rhett Warrener.

That trade put the late 90s Sabres over the top.  Well, as close as you can get.

If they don't give you anything to talk about they become irrelevant.  Which, to many people, they already are.

Why bother debating the media speak?  It's all garbage talk to keep you interested and get them paid.

So, there's a debate on garbage talk over a garbage team. Hardly seems worth the effort.

Then again, the Delorean ran on garbage once it visited 2015 and we're now 10 years past that.

I get it but I am also not sure the pre-Vietnam War era of the NFL is relevant to modern professional sports.

But if it is, the solution is actually pretty depressing and unfortunate for both Pegula and Sabres fans. Dan Rooney took over the team as GM and then later as President in the late 60's. Then Art Senior died in 1988.

So if the Sabres are congruent to the late 60's/early 70's Steelers Pegula will have to give up control of the Sabres to a kid and/or then die.

You have actually made the outlook much worse. Like soooo much worse. Like Art Sr. didn't luck into anything, he just relinquished control and then died. Sooooo, thanks for that...enjoy your weekend Sabres Fans!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_M._Rooney#:~:text=By early 1969%2C Rooney was, operational control of the franchise.

Quote

In 1960, Rooney originally worked as director of personnel for the Steelers. In 1969, Rooney was appointed by his father to be the team's general manager, succeeding Francis Fogarty, who retired following the 1968 season.[8] Rooney's first season as general manager saw him select Joe Greene third overall, who later became a staple of the team's Steel Curtain defense throughout their 1970's dynasty teams. After a poor outing in 1969 with a 1–13 record, Rooney stepped down from the general manager position, instead hiring Dick Haley. Hiring Haley proved fruitful for the team as he acquired the 1974 draft class which featured four future Hall of Fame players.[9]

By early 1969, Rooney was managing the day-to-day operations of the team and personally selected the coaching hire of Chuck Noll. Rooney was appointed team president in 1975 and was officially given full operational control of the franchise. His father remained chairman and President Emeritus, as well as the public face of the franchise, until his death in 1988.[citation needed] Rooney oversaw all six championship teams for the Steelers between Super Bowl IX and Super Bowl XLIII and played a role in hiring all three of the Steelers' head coaches in 1969, 1992[10] and 2007.[11]

So, wasn't Seravalli the one speculating the Sabres were trying to trade him at the deadline also?  If so, seems like somebody really wants to do everything he can to help "his" team land a good player and isn't afraid to carry water for the guys he favors.

I agree. If I had to guess, Peterka as well as the majority of our other players are tickled pink just thinking about the current situation

You can always feel the bumper bowling confines start to assemble in these discussions

Ya I mean the more Seravalli is off base the poorer it reflects on the roster tbh

we should be wanting the rumour to be true

The reason it is a something-burger is because we already jettisoned quality players in the name of vibes and culture. We have spent 6 years replacing them to improve all that, and now it seems we have the core of those players being like "meh, still sucks here". To top it all off, the guy in charge of fixing all that is the guy the brought them here and created the vibes/culture these dudes and HC hate.

So Seravalli is trying to get Peterka to the Rangers is my understanding. I swear at the deadline he indicated the trade was imminent.

This seems mostly accurate - particularly the bold. It’s almost certainly click based entertainment purposes at play. That’s what the whole “ea online GM” thing is. The nitty gritty inside baseball stuff is the province of our fandom when we can’t focus on the goals the rest of the league does

what Seravalli is saying is likely an educated guess based on his connections and just the general word. But it’s also almost assuredly true

Sorry Taro.

What I am seeing and feeling right now is that this summer is critical to either fixing some of the key roster issues that have been identified or losing another core of pretty good players.

As predicted:  a poorly qualified neophyte GM being led by Terry Pegula + never fully addressing the critical goalie position + not bringing in players that provide proper roster balance + doing the "no blockers" thing + and not spending to the cap  =  eventually kill the current core and force another rebuild.

Many of us talked about how the above course of action could drive another rebuild by driving the Core away.

How could this level of ineptitude not drive the core away... I am shocked its only 25%, I would say if you are a player and you are happy with the direction of the team that would give me pause...  I suspect there are a lot of players but most arent talking.

Bryson is OK with the direction of the team. A million bucks to play every 2nd or 3rd game. He might complain if he had to play 82.

He might complain if there were other teams willing to sign him to a million bucks.
