Why is Kevyn Adams still the General Manager?

He's never made the playoffs. 

His contract handouts are questionable. 

His teams have gotten worse each of the last 3yrs.

He admitted he got Byram just cuz. 

He admitted he's never gotten a partner for Power.

He drafted Quinn over Rossi. 

He promoted Appert and is grooming him for HC. 

He lied about the previous coach search. 

He's a self defeating poor leader. 

So Terry Pegula, why TF is Adams still GM?

Because he does what Terry tells him to do. This is the classic yes man.  Competency doesn’t matter.

I would love to know what the NHL thinks about this. The Sabres preach accountability, but do the opposite when it comes to their FO. A GM who has not made the playoffs in 5 years and not fired is unheard of. My only guess is Terry feels paralyzed for what to do, especially when it comes to firing the only person he trusts.

At this stage it looks like he is still the GM because:

- Pegula still trusts Adams.  Pegula’s trust in Adams’s ability to ice a winning hockey team has to be fading.  But Pegula is not ready to fire the man he considers a trusted consigliere. 

And/or

- Pegula does not want to pay 2-3 men seven figure salaries to not work for him, which would be the case if he fired Adams (and Ruff).  So we get one more lame-duck season of GMKA, starring Kevyn Adams and featuring Lindy Ruff.  

Together or apart, they are terrible reasons for not making needed change.  Betting money should be on things getting worse. There just isn’t any precedent for a 1st time GM having no success through 5 seasons, and then figuring it out in year 6.

Terry Pegula hired him and thinks he is doing a good enough job to retain, maybe even promote.  

Adams is apparently getting a 6th season with no success to show for it.  No other team operates like this.  No team ever has.  

It’s shameful and lazy and disrespectful to the fan base.  I’m not going to pay for Sabres tickets or merchandise anymore.

Bills are good because Terry is kept out of football decisions and Josh Allen is the best QB

Bandits are good because as far as we know, Terry doesn't give a flying F about them. 

Amerks are good because of Karmanos and the fact the Sabres draft top 10 year after year. 

But hey, keep carrying that water for the franchise sunshine. 

Also if Terry gave a ***** about the Sabres being good, he'd have fired Adams and the coaching staff by now. Dude just wants to save money for his football stadium over runs.

1) Terry feels “heard” because he is a grovelling yes man.

2) Money: he still has a contract for this season. He stands up in front of the media and takes the bullets, lying about no financial constraints and Terry’s commitment to spend.

He never should have been hired and he shouldn’t still be employed but that is where we are right now.

When you have owned a team for 14 years and missed the playoffs every single season you think you would want to improve but all signs point to Nope.

Great, so he’s too busy or distracted to worry about having the most unsuccessful team in the NHL.  Maybe he should hire a POHO to run things so he can focus on his other priorities…..oh wait, he doesn’t trust anybody else and wants to make sure he’s being heard…..nevermind.

What's the stark difference between Bills/Bandits with the Amerks? He allowed those competent staffs to manage their own operations without his interference. It was Terry P. who hired someone with no qualifications for the Sabre GM position. It's bad enough that he hired someone who was so ill-equipped for the position, but even worse, he kept him on for more than five failed years, and still counting, What's apparent is that the Sabres are not a normally run NHL franchise and the owner is not a normally responding NHL owner. It's stupid and embarrassing.

How those teams are run is all conjecture on our part. We have to make sense of the incongruity.

Never give up! Hang in there. 

I'm certainly not happy about his likely retention. However, that doesn't mean that he is fully empowered as a typical GM. My sense is that Ruff is going to have more influence involving trades for this stagnant franchise.  Let's wait and see what this feeble hockey franchise does this offseason. If little, then jump from the ship, and don't forget the life preserver. You might find it useful in the shark infested waters. 😊

Bad hires, bad decisions, bad luck, all of which compounds year after year. 

But unlike other years, I think the Sabres have the pieces to get over the hump. Despite our feelings about Adams, the Sabres have good players. The Amerks have a stocked pipeline. Lindy has to figure out how to get it all to click. Unlike most NHL teams the Sabres are forced to develop their own talent as signing top free agents is difficult with the long drought.

Drafting. Adams has hit on more of his picks than he missed.
