Weave Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago (edited) This stupid event has more pages of conversation than a mid season Sabres game. Even Promo the Bot is more active than for actual games. Edited 14 hours ago by Weave 1 Quote

dudacek Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Athletic's instant mock has the Sabres taking Brady Martin over McQueen, which I think would delight most of us. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6335303/2025/05/05/nhl-mock-draft-2025-schaefer-islanders/ Frondell, O'Brien, Mtrka were 6-7-8. Thoughts? 1 Quote

It feels strange that the prize for them would be identical whether they win the first or the second drawing. And actually, this has me wondering about a different scenario. What if it had been reversed, Utah wins the first drawing and the Islanders the second. Does NYI wind up with 1 overall in that scenario? Aisles would've gotten the 2nd pick in that scenario. The Snarks would get pick 1. The Fighting Mormons get 4 and whoever started out at 2 gets 3. Quote

Thoughts? It's possible. Like 6ish-14ish is roughly interchangeable. Not in reality when it's all send and done but here and now. Quote

I guess they can’t set it up that way because it could lead to a scenario where both winners are supposed to move up to the same spot (15 wins and moves up to 5, 14 then wins and would also go up to 5th). PotentPowerPlay21 Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Any system that allows a team to jump up 9 or 10 places is just plain dumb and unfair. Period. 1 Quote

Because the NHL doesn't already make things convoluted enough; let's add 1 MORE level of complexity to something that should be really friggin' simple but the NHL CAN'T let things be simple. Not when there's a possiblilty of making them completely unfollowable. They aren't there YET (and even with your proposed modification they wouldn't be there, but they'd be heading in that direction) but give 'em time and more ideas like this and they'll get there. (Not meant for the snark to be directed at you; just the NHL and the stupid Sabres deserve the ire today.) Quote

So you’re saying that you don’t like a system that is anti-tank but still leaves in a bit of pro-tank protection by only allowing the bottom 10 teams to have a shot at the first pick? It’s a cowardly setup. If you feel the need to create a weighted lottery (which I hate, by the way), have all of the teams involved playing for the same prize. Quote
steveoath Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I like the idea that the team that amasses the most points after being mathematically eliminated from playoffs gets 1OA. 2nd most gets 2OA etc. means every team should have something to play for. Quote

But these rocket surgeons that run the league are going to do whatever they want regardless how dumb it is. But, that said, making the system even MORE convoluted DOESN'T make it any better. It just makes it an even bigger embarrassment than it already is. Quote
