Idle SabreSpacer speculation re: Patrick Kane

We need another goal scorer but Kane is not the answer. This team blew it during the offseason by keeping Olofsson and picking someone else up. Now we won't get a bag of pucks for Oloffson. Now, we are going to play meaningful .500 hockey because our core cannot stay healthy and our bottom 6 are generally worthless.

Larry Brooks reported he’s not going to NYR.

does the Tage injury keep him away or make us offer 2 years and more $ along with making a trade for a Center?

If Kane is about winning, the Tage injury will change his train of thought on coming here.

If the rumors are true that Buffalo is the only team offering a multi year deal, then today doesn’t matter.

My guess would be he looks to sign a 1 year deal with a contender and then MAYBE signs a 2-3 year deal with Buffalo for next season or not at all.

After we crash and burn the rest of this season he can be part of the optimism for the next year. It fits with Buffalo Sabres thinking. It's always NEXT year.

You got that right. Never the present. Never the here and now. Having the youngest team in the league is nothing to hang your hat on but KA and Donnie seem to relish in it. If you look at the best most competitive teams in the league there is a formula that works. They almost all follow the same formula because they know it works. Why change it? Keep getting high picks and stockpiling them Kevin. Don’t block them with any experience. God forbid don’t ever bring in a number one goalie. You might block the kid who is 3 years away. Jeebus its frustrating watching this group self destruct.

For sentimental reasons, I'd love to have Kane come here and lead us to 8th place.  But in all honesty, even if his hip is good, do we really want another perimeter player that won't get his nose dirty?  I mean, he might help the power play, but we still don't have a front of the net presence.  Maybe watching Kane and Skinner figure skating in circles in the offensive zone will put more people in the seats!

Don Granato, Kyven Adams, answering simultaneously: "Why yes, yes we do. Think of the increased passing with reduced shooting".

That’s not how hip replacements go

The Leafs, Panthers, Lightning, Canes, Wings, Stars, Sabres apparently disagree. If he’s getting that much interest, he must look good on the ice.

Those teams may disagree, but Ed Jovanovski, Nicklas Backstrom, Carl Hagelin and Ryan Kesler agree:  It's not something you come back from and play for any length of time.

Except, Marchand had double hip surgery before last season and he's still who he is.

Every athlete is different, but if their fitness level is high it is definitely something you can come back from.

It's really a simple question. Who would you rather have on the roster Kane or Olofsson?

I am not a medical professional, but there’s a difference between hip labrum tears (your boyfriend) and hip resurfacing (Kane). That should be acknowledged.

Also, Kane’s 2022-23 defensive metrics had him third worst in the NHL with the Hawks and worst in the NHL with the Rangers.

Before you blame his injury, his trend-line defensively has been 📉 year over year for years.

We all want the Sabres to do something, but this move ain’t it. And to answer your question…coming off his injury, it’s impossible to tell if Kane is truly an upgrade or not.  It’s possible Kane is Willie Mays in center field at the end of his career.

Marchand had a very very different surgery.

These hip resurfacing surgeries, which is almost a hip replacement (you end up with a metal ball in metal socket for your hip joint), have terrible outcomes for NHL players thus far.

It’s a small sample size, but the results of these surgeries has been truly awful in terms of continuing an NHL career.  No one has been able to play more than half a season after getting the surgery.  I don’t think people are putting enough consideration into the idea that Kane’s NHL career might actually be already finished.
