Surprised he didn’t go to July 1st

good deal for the Sabres!

 Glad for some news!!!

He knew he wanted to be a Sabre.  And really hope that they find a role for him long enough that he can retire as a Sabre.  VERY few cradle to grave Sabres over the past 53 years.  Perreault and Ramsay are 2 but there aren't many others when guys that only had a cup of coffee in the NHL like Morris Titanic aren't included on the list.

Can't believe Hajt wasn't included on the original list.  D'oh!

Forgot Hajt.

Status quo signing.  We now have 12 forwards under contract.  Is this a message that they don’t think Rousek or any of the other prospects are ready to contribute?  What does this mean for Jost?

Honestly I was hoping for a move or two to strengthen the 4th line and to help the PK.

Is adding defense and goaltending now the only priority?

Certainly does appear that way.  But even if 1 of the 2 gray beards weren't brought back, they were going to go with close to what they had up front next year anyway.

For the most part I don't think the forward group was the problem with this team last year. Keep Jost, Trade VO, and add Rousek to the roster and I'm good. There is something to be said for consistency with teammates and systems that leads to improvement year over year.

Now if KA runs it back with the same D and G situation, we'll have a problem. But at least for Defense I don't see that happening.

This tells us that the organization doesn't think the AHLers are ready for the playoffs.

The more I think about it, I wonder if this makes one of the kids in the AHL trade bait. KA's sexy smile isn't going to win us a top 4 D man and a good goalie.

Z needs to experience the playoffs with this organization. Sentimentally I want to see this happen as well

I think Playoff Z would be off the chain.  Imagine the powerhouse defensive shutdown forward game he's capable of playing with that level of motivation and urgency.  The body-be-damned huge hit highlights alone would be worth the $2.5M.  We're going to need that role and energy to get past the first round.

If you thought Paul Gaustad was a capable playoff defense specialist...

I think it is between Jost and Rousek right now for the final forward spot.

I think Kulich starts in Rochester again where he belongs.

Casey -  Krebs - Greenway

girgs -  Jost - Ox

(Rousek)?

But  We need help @ F/Os….. Third line needs a sniper…. Fourth line could use more scoring output….

Just like last year? Help coming from Quinn, Cozens, JJP, Krebs, Casey getting better?

I guess there are no other vet forwards in F/A or via trade, so let’s just bring back KO and Girgs.  They have been such fantastic winners, this was Adams only choice.

The idea that Okposo and Girgensons are somehow to blame for the team being bad while they’ve been here, or that the team can’t be good if they are here, is just something I can’t get my head around.

Just as Eichel wasn't a good playoff player until he was. It's possible to be a good player on a bad team and for a bad franchise. Skinner also fits into this mold. But if you're a not-so-great player on a good team, you likely don't stick around (Leino on Detroit, and then again on Philly).

Leaguewide (and Sabres fan) perception on all these players could shift with one good playoff round.

I'll always remember his hustle play against he Pens early last season that allowed us to bury the empty netter to seal the game. That play alone earned this contract.

Well... maybe a little more than that one play. Maybe giving that consistent effort game-in and -out for a team that was alternately trying to stink, and scuffling by reshaping its coaching and front office every 2 years, and finally sticking with a plan... has something to do with it. The Locomotive kept churning through it all.

Oh, I agree. But that play really cemented my respect for him. That effort should be shown at every youth hockey camp.
