48.5 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent with an illegal check to the head.  If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion.

I don't get this. If you're trying to win a hockey game, anyway. Pitt was looking for a big hit, a big response, a power play, crowd noise, anything to turn the game around. Not to go all Randall here, but they were a narrow Crosby miss away from having that shift that signals they would come back and win the game. (Don't get me wrong. I have no doubt the Penguins come back and win this game. It's just what they do at home against Buffalo. Right now it's Bills 14, Pats 0 at halftime, at NE.)
