hate to say I Told You So but...

I, along with a lot of other posters  have been saying on here to anybody who would listen (and even to some whom wouldn't) that Blysma'a system is killing this team and is outdated  and simply will not work in today's NHL. I think we all remember New jersey and their famous trap that worked very well with Marty in goal. They got a goal or two then bored the other team to death.

Today's NHL has (thankfully) done away with the clutching and grabbing and the interference defensemen used to slow up fore-checkers into the offensive zone, and is so much more wide-open.  Last night proves exactly what I have been saying, hat no lead is safe and that a team must keep going and not try to sit on a lead.  The Caps had a 2 goal lead, Ottawa saw a 3 goal lead disappear, even the Hawks had a 2 goal lead and Calgary had a 3 goal lead. No lead is safe and today's NHL dictates that a team keeps going and doesn't take the foot off the pedal. Far too many times we got leads then tried to sit on them with little or no success.

This system is trying to get every player "on the same page" and have them all play a boring defensive system that simply does not nor will not work. Maybe 5 or 8 years ago, but not now. I think by GMTM's words he is going to try and get Blysma to change and to see less "system" but I am afraid he will not change. He is rying to implement a outdated system and after seeing what is going on around the NHL i is becoming clearer that Blysma must be replaced for this team to ever  have any real success. The new NHL dictates a system that is totally opposite from Blysma's.

Maybe it is not the players, but his system dragging down everybody...this team has good offensive-style players who enjoy playing to those talents but this system is holding them back...no wonder they look uninspired...they aren't knowing everyday the coach will be preaching his system.

This is no different then if at work you have a great boss that allows a fun environment that allows for creativity and for each individual to excel at what they do best and to not hold back the employees, then a new boss comes in and wants everybody to do the same thing and takes the fun out of it. You wouldn;t want to go to work either and no doubt we would probably give up just as the players did at times this year.

I worked at a company that had great owners and allowed for freedom and promoted employees to be happy and have fun. Then a new set of owners came in and  it changed overnight into a place where we were all stressed and it wasn;t hard to see that employees were not happy. Uninspired employees are not great employees to have, and I do think maybe this team is just that...uninspired on most nights...

To be honest I am using my own experience at work...I worked at a casino up here in Ontario from before it opened in 1996...the owners were Carnival Cruise Lines and we had a President that allowed it to be fun, creative and I loved going to work. Then another group bought the controlling interest and changed everything to be boring and controlled and I hated going to work...no different then the Sabre players not liking going to work anymore...the fun is taken out of it and it is no longer enjoyable...

My problem is with the lack of use of the enter key ... paragraphs are our friend.

I actually stopped reading at some point after reading the same line 4 times.

There's something to be said for a big box of beautiful text, the line endings meandering down the page like the Ganges River.

I call it culling out the feeble-minded. The quality of responders is so much higher.

I'm pretty sure a significant part of this board have been telling each other this for two seasons.  Of course, there are those who pointed to Bylsma as a great coach back in the "fire Lindy" days, but I think even those folks have come around.

Agreed:

  • Please use better paragraph formatting. I gave up after a couple of lines.
  • In the Columbus game last night, the Blue Jackets were repeatedly "punting" the puck into the Pittsburgh zone as they just hoped to hang on in the 3rd period. There was no interest in puck possession. I was thinking, except for having 5 goals on the board, this looks a hell of a lot like Buffalo! And, when Pittsburgh scored with :30ish to go, I thought the Blue Jackets did themselves in. ALL PREVENT DEFENSE PREVENTS IS WINNING.
  • I believe I heard the announcers in the Caps/Leafs game comment that this is nothing like watching the Devils. Something to the effect of fast-paced, back-and-forth with little/no defensive trap. Duh, it is exciting to watch that, and both teams are doing well with it. But leave it to Buffalo to select a system that is boring, AND doesn't translate to wins.
