sabres1970 Posted September 19, 2010 Report Share Posted September 19, 2010 I haven't seen too many topics about how the Sabres will do this year and we're a few weeks away. I think we can do some damage again this year. We have the returning vezina and calder winners, hopefully vanek gets back to his goal scoring ways, and i like the focus on getting bigger and gaining toughness. The youthful make up on this team is convincing too, with Gerbe, Ennis, Kassian, Weber and other hopeful 2010-2011 sabres. I cannot wait anymore for real Sabres talk to begin after watching the Bills for the past two weeks. Please help me out and tell me what you think about the upcoming year. They've weakened their defense and have done nothing to improve the pathetic powerplay. Gerbe is too small in this league and will be a Band Aid Boy. Kassian is a thug - I doubt if he'll make the cut. In fact I'm sure he won't. Weber is a work in progress, while Ennis is a true star in the making. All said and done, we won't win the division but will probably make the playoffs in the nr. 6 position. And then it's an early exit again. bunomatic Posted September 19, 2010 Report Share Posted September 19, 2010 I'm excited if only because hockey is finally getting underway. The youth that will make a push this year for roster spots can hopefully light a fire under some of the top 6 that have become stagnant to a certain extent and have shown a sense of entightlement lately. I had hoped that Darcy would address the problematic power(less)play but I guess they'll try to solve that inhouse again this year. I am hoping that we become a team over the next couple of years that other teams hate to play. It would be nice to be seen as a team that you're gonna take a few lumps if you want to beat them not a team that will turtle at the slightest provacation. Lets go! Unfortunately the only thing worse than our Power Play are the "fans" that post on this site. Not sure if your new or not to this board but this is not a good site to have any kind of sabres discussion because our D is terrible, we have no PP, our top 6 forwards are a joke and we have no heart. Obviously we would prefer the team to actually do something in the postseason but you can't ignore the regular season. About 90% of the posters do ignore this and almost secretly hope that the team struggles so that they can pound their chests and say "See I told you so...." Seriously, unless you want to be more depressed then after a Bills game, not much point in reading the junk and overall negativity on this site. There are some really good discussions on this board by intellegent people that make informed and insightful contributions. The fact that we don't all see the franchise through his rose colored glasses adds balance to the board and makes for some lively talk. I'm excited about the coming season as I have been for every season but that doesn't mean I'll disregard the teams shortcomings. I'm excited for the return of hockey. I'm not excited that it comes with Tim Connolly. Keep bitching that a guy who plays the most physical professional team sport on earth has dealt with injury problems... I just hope nobody goes back and changes their tune once he has another career year and becomes Vanek's top set up man... he'll lead the team in points and score 25 goals and you guys will still call for his head. and lol @ Miller being the only reason this team will compete for a playoff spot. I would put Ty ###### Conklin in net and still put money on making playoffs. I think I'm gonna go ahead and pull a rezlimey for a few weeks cause I can't stand reading these ridiculous posts about how the sabres suck, connolly sucks, roy sucks, vanek sucks, ennis sucks, kaleta is a bum, myers is overrated, the rest of our defense sucks, miller won't have another good year, etc. I'm pumped for the season and I don't need some internet badasses telling me my team is going to suck and calling themselves real fans at the same time. I'll be there... my league just drafted tonight, not sure if anyone from here ever actually signed up though. But it went well, all but 2 people showed and I like my team. VansTheMans Posted September 20, 2010 Report Share Posted September 20, 2010 One player I'm watching is Ennis. If my gut tells me right, Tyler Ennis hopefully becomes a Calder candidate. I see him putting up 50-60 points. And he'll add some much needed offensive excitement to this Sabres squad. From his brief stint with the Sabres, he was easily the most offensively exciting player the Sabres have had since Danny Briere. As far as the team, I'm confident this squad could make it to the Conference Finals should it all come together. We are grittier (Morrison could be huge) and we have more experienced role players (Niedermeyer). The Sabres acquired exactly what they desired to play in the style Lindy Ruff has developed. It's going to be a boring, grinding style of hockey, but the Sabres will win with it. With Ryan Miller between the pipes, he'll cover up any mistakes the team makes. If the offensive spark that Ennis provides can turn on the offense, and if Vanek can find his groove under Lindy's system, this is a team that could do some damage in the post season. The only negative that comes to mind is the team's power play. It still lacks an effective PPQB, and Ruff still has no idea how to get it clicking. If we could acquire a legit power play specialist, I'd feel confident with this team against any squad in the NHL. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Well, so much for having an educated opinion. My problem with Connolly has nothing to do with injuries. My problem with Connolly is that I'm sick of seeing his name on the roster. The sight of him on the bench without a care in the world makes me want to tear my hair out. And all the while Vanek is doing his "wahhh why can't I score" grimace because Timmy doesn't have the skills to actually feed him the puck when it counts. If you've got a problem with criticism of this team, go be a fan of a team with players that play to win and everything is peaches and sunshine.
