We're celebrating the Gorges trade now? His best season for us was the year we were *trying to lose* and he's sucked ever since. GMTM's best trade by far was for ROR. Most of the rest didn't amount to almost anything and he didn't do anything as opportunistic as this one.
-
If we traded a 3rd round pick to make sure we still have Ullmark after the expansion draft, I'd be OK with that. I'd prefer that we traded the 3rd just to acquire NB and that he's protected along with 55 and 29 though.

Well, if we traded for him so that Vegas could take him and we could keep Ullmark, that's still a good outcome from where we were yesterday.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
Robviously replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
It Comes At Night was the biggest POS I've seen in a theatre in years. It was 90 minutes and they didn't have enough to fill even that. There's basically no story, all of the "scares" are dream sequences, and the characters are completely bland. There are plenty of long shots of the woods to fill time though. "Make it atmospheric" isn't all you need to make a movie. The movie sets up one interesting plot point - that the only way in or out of the house is via a locked door that only one character has the key to -- and then they completely forget about it. The door ends up open but no one really asks any questions about that and the mystery is never solved or explore. Oh well. And it has a dark ending because that's what hacks consider "art." -
In an alternate universe, we're trying to figure out why GMTM just traded Justin Bailey and both of his 2nd round picks for Beaulieu, with half the board defending him because ZFG.

Yep. Here's a scouting report from May 2011: http://thehockeywriters.com/the-next-ones-–-nathan-beaulieu-–-nhl-2011-draft-prospect-profile/ And here's TSN radio segment on trading him or protecting him: http://www.tsn.ca/radio/montreal-690/dumont-potential-return-of-beaulieu-1.777679

Expansion Draft -- Sabres moves and speculation
Robviously replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
Perfect summary. His value is at an all-time low and he's a former 1st round pick that has all the tools that guy like Housley could work with. And we traded a 3rd round pick in a draft that is supposed to be weak (and we still have another 3rd this year anyway). -
Expansion draft and league-wide wheeling and dealing

Would be amazing if the California Angels made a comeback but that's unlikely, even this week. -

Official NHL website map shows team in Quebec; new divisions
Robviously replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
Love those divisions if we're moving to 4-team divisions, but I'd probably like to have just 4 divisions total again just to limit how many mediocre teams are guaranteed a playoff spot just by winning a weak division. -

They're not supposed to announce those deals until next week I thought? I'm surprised more teams haven't made trades with each other (not LV) yet but there are still a couple hours for that. -
"Did someone say gambling?" - Rick Tocchet, probably

Everything Sabres Uniform Related - Royal Blue Please!
Robviously replied to CallawaySabres's topic in The Aud Club
FWIW, we've had three primary color eras so far: Royal Blue, Black, and Navy Blue. The last has been the most lame by far. Bring on the royal blue! -
That's a disaster. Trades are exciting but LA has basically nothing for us to get excited about.
-
If GMTM were still here, we'd have just signed him to a six-year deal. Please let it be true.

Expectations for Guhle for next season and beyond?
Robviously replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This. -
Eh. Depends who we're getting. There should be defensemen available for less than the #8 pick though since the expansion draft is going to force some decisions for teams. I think the chances of a trade would be higher if GMTM were still around. The new GM won't be under pressure to deliver results this season and can keep the pick if he thinks it'll be better for the team in 1-2 years.

FWIW, if you check back to the January mid-season rankings from NHL.com, Valimaki was the top Finnish defenseman available and was being talked about the way Heiskanen is now: https://www.nhl.com/news/adam-kimelman-2017-nhl-mock-draft/c-285904700 https://www.nhl.com/news/mike-morreale-2017-nhl-mock-draft/c-285904720 I'm basically at the point where if we get Heiskanen, Valimaki, Liljegren, or Makar at 8, I'd be pretty happy. It's tougher to tell which forwards I'd really like at that spot. Tippett is a goal-scorer but I'm not sure versatile he is.

This show is an absolute masterpiece. The cinematography of the wide open stretches of desert in NM is so good that I wish I was watching this in a movie theatre. And the storytelling and acting floor me. Most shows never even come close to a scene as good as Jimmy saying "...and you'll die. Alone." last week. My only complaint is that it's so bleak that it can be tough to watch. You see all these nuanced characters that obviously have good in them and they're in a downward spiral together. At any moment, they could change course and pull out of it but they keep trudging along and they're doomed.

We actually could have dropped 3 spots last night... Dropping 2 spots sucks but I still like that they've removed an incentive to tank a season. The NHL actually got one right.
-
BPA all the way at 8th overall. Dropping 2 spots sucks but we should still have a shot at someone pretty exciting at 8: Rasmussen, Makar, Glass, Pettersson, Liljegren, Valimaki, etc. - some of these guys will be there.

Trying to remember how long it's been since I was one of the people that would get really excited or upset in real time during the NFL draft. It's all total guesswork. The Patriots have a dynasty because they accidentally drafted the beat QB of all time in the 6th round. Bills first two picks sound good and the third one sounds ok. Let me know when we take a QB.

Who is the Worst Member of the Buffalo Media?
Robviously replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
I'd say it's the opposite -- he can never be wrong about anything, at least in his view. He flips out over anyone disagreeing with him and subtweets people from WGR nearly every day because his feelings are still hurt from the Tank debate *three years ago*. He also lies about what the pro-Tank people were even saying and has been called out by Paul Hamilton (the only WGR person that actually interacts with him) on it. And, of course, fans are rubes that are either brainwashed by radio or the Pegulas. He comes off like a wildly sensitive old man that can't cope with how much influence newspapers have lost during his career. He's right 100% of the time. He must be. Because newspapers. Look at it another way - do you really want to follow anyone who covers sports and can't have a sense of humor about things they were way off about? -

The responses to that tweet, and a bunch of his other ones today, were priceless. He got completely roasted and you could tell he was embarrassed. -
off topic Star Wars - now with SPOILERS! (Read at your own risk)
Robviously replied to Robviously's topic in The Aud Club
Can we take a minute to appreciate the music in this trailer -- and in The Force Awakens? John Williams is obviously amazing, but I'm still floored that these sound so different from the original trilogy but still perfectly "Star Wars."
