I kinda like where the Sabres are at wrt the Eichel situation. The longer this drags on, the more respect I have for KA. The tail no longer wags the dog in Buffalo.

What's promising about this team is that they have an identity. Speed, puck pressure, relentless, fast break offense. You'd have to go back at least 10 years to find a Sabre's team with any identity whatsoever.

UPL seems to be regressing a bit.... which is unusual considering he's had a full offseason to prepare. Perhaps the book is out on him. He looks slow to make high saves, so until he figures that out he's going to struggle. IIRC, Ryan Miller had trouble picking up point shots through traffic but he worked on it and became and All-Star. That said, UPL is still a decent prospect they shouldn't give up on.

They thoroughly outplayed what looked like a disinterested Coyotes team and deserved the win. That said, I remain skeptical they can maintain this style of play as the season wears on.

NHL is trending back towards smaller more athletic goalies who are quicker post to post.

Spending a 1st round pick on a goalie is bit reckless IMO. That said, picking one in the middle rounds every other year or so is prudent.

I hope you're right, but I don't see anything in his game that would suggest he's a future NHL starter.... and that's OK, more often than not goalie prospects don't pan out.

Was at the Duck/Kings game tonight. A few notes.... Zegras, wow, impressive. Needs to add about 10-15lbs tho. Drysdale not so much. Kaliyev impressed, his skating is a bit wonky, elite shot. Getzlaf is done. Austin Wagner I would imagine is a target of the Sabres, he's got that speed they covet like Hinostroza, Caggiula and Bjork. Stolarz looked great for the first 2 periods, he looks ready to take over for Gibson after they trade him to Buffalo 🙂
