Are the Sabres out of the running for the playoffs?
Porous Five Hole replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
Agree, it just isn’t there. TSN trade tracker makes it quick and easy to review. https://www.tsn.ca/tradecentre/trade-tracker Looks like Ethan Bear is the only NHL defenseman traded all year. He’s been surprisingly alright as a 4 D (although TOI has been reduced 2-3 min from his season average each of the last five games). That’s it. -
I don’t think that info is correct anyway I think it is wrong

Initial reactions to the season: The team relied on the continued development of McKenzie, Knox, and Gabe. It made sense to roll with this ascending group, but we didn’t get enough. McK is essentially replacement level, Gabe made some plays but could not be consistent, and maybe it was unreasonable to assume Knox would continue to develop into a top five TE (he was trending that way pre-injury last year). If this group doesn’t let the team down, the O Line issues aren’t as glaring. Stats are comparable from last year to this year offensively, but Dorsey is a rookie and it showed. The game flow seemed odd too many times, and JA17 is an alien isn’t an offensive identity. Next year should be better. The O Line. Brown and Bates did not take a step forward. That hurt a ton. Dawkins was average, but is being paid to be better than average. Safford, Van Rotten, and Ques wore down. Dumpster diving for depth did not work. I believe Josh’s elbow injury was understated. I’ll think about the D tomorrow.

If Cozens is a 1C and Tage gets “demoted” to the second line, he will score 200 points a year feasting off of easier matchups/PP time/majority offensive zone starts. OK not literally, but this would be best case scenario for the team.

A team can only jump ten spots, so the Pens would really have to fall off a cliff from here for that to happen. -

What is incredibly stupid to me is that there are no defensemen on the Atlantic roster. I know it’s an exhibition, but pretending defensemen aren’t a part of hockey is ridiculous.

Anybody coming to ROC for the game tomorrow? Hawks ticket hasn’t been a popular item since the pandemic (and they’ve also been pretty bad since the team switch), but tix selling well (lower bowl between the nets is nearly sold out) and hoping for a decent walk up tomorrow as it is mild in ROC.

I think he did by not participating, no?

He is an expiring contract who hits people and is a relentless forechecker. I’ve got room on my fourth line for him for the rest of the season.

Oh man, this is so vague it is literally gold

He’s an RFA again. He can be qualified by the team for something close to his current NHL/AHL salary of 750k/225k. 13 goals, 11 assists, 24 pts in 32 games. He’s a tweener. Not fast enough for the show, but big enough to get by in the AHL. If he’s good in the locker room, I can see the team bringing him back. He’s not really blocking anybody. But I believe his days of being considered an NHL prospect are dead.

Now that Vinny is gone, it’s Bryson, VO, and Asplund.

Yes, thank you for saying that. He is free to express himself, and we are also free to express our reactions to it. And I hope the loud and clear takeaway in conversations like this is that hockey is welcoming of everyone. I know this doesn’t speak for every Russian Orthodox believer, but my best friend growing up is still Russian Orthodox…his parents are off the boat from Russia. They took me to one of my first Amerks games when I was little. They aren't homophobic. Based on my experience, it isn’t the religion that’s automatically the problem. The individual in question is just a close-minded clown (obviously without the rainbow wig cuz you know, that could give someone the wrong idea).

John Roth Named COO of PSE and The Sabres

Or they need to have someone run the team since Kim isn’t well. I wouldn’t worry about a sale. Terry doesn’t need the money. -
https://www.amerks.com/schedule/specialty-jersey-nights The Amerks covered the animals for you, @Quint (along with military, hockey fights cancer, pride, etc). They aren’t stray animals, but I’m sure stray animals really appreciate your sentiment of hockey being inclusive to them!

Totally agree. I checked this thread during halftime-ish, and I saw the two most recent posts were “in serious trouble. I don't see them winning this game,” and “this is why I tell people I don’t get excited about the Bills because they are the only team I know that always find new and creative ways to blow games. It’s been that way since the early 80’s!” And I thought, I don’t think the Fins have 100 yards of total offense yet. We will be fine. I am not calling either poster out because I see this nervous & emotional energy a lot. I think it’s 50 years of losing and losing in the incredible ways Buffalo has. Combine that with the hot take energy of sports talk (and being first/loudest with said opinion), and this is what we get.
