  1. Wow, Dokis. That's a pretty, out of the way place. I'm on Lake Nipissing that feeds the French River into Georgian Bay. I don't know where Lake Baptiste is, I'll Google it. Northern Ontario has some beautiful scenery, the shores of Lake Superior between the Soo and Thunder Bay is rugged and awesome. There are warts here too, but I wouldn't leave because I'm not comfortable in cities.
  2. I've been to Peterborough but not for a game. Nice city, lots of hockey history. Met Steve Larmer recently, had a nice chat. Majority of my games have been in North Bay and Sudbury. I've attended games in Ottawa, Sault Ste Marie, Kitchener and Barrie. North Bay is my team and has a good atmosphere. Sudbury had an 50's era arena and a stuffed wolf they run out on a clothesline after a goal. Hokey but it's their tradition. Their team has sucked for awhile though. A skate on the canal before a 67's game is a cool thing to do. Have a beaver tail (pastry) at one of the many canal rest stops.
  3. Get a nice looking, clean motel. Lots of dives around.
  4. Lots of fond memories flooding in from the 70's. I watch hockey almost every night (not many complete games, lots of channel surfing) and catch 90% of Sabres games. I listen to the stats talk but prefer to just watch great players, great plays and some good commentary. I also read quite a bit of hockey information and I don't skip the stats stuff. I don't go looking for it either. I may attend one NHL game a year, but get to 20 OHL games. I watch my son practice 2-3 times per week and play games most weekends. 23 games, year to date for his team. Hockey is a big part of our lives and the stats are a small part of my hockey experience. I'm glad someone is compiling them and explains it to me, but I can live without them.
  5. 5-8 cups of black tea every work day. About half of that on weekends. Hot summer weather I have Iced Tea and some Mountain Dew. Quit coffee about 12 years ago.
  6. Big win. We were outshot but won the board battles. Reinhart with a solid 200 foot game. O'Reilly's mentoring this kid. Linus was good. Linus Rasmus Marcus Zemgus Ennis Nicholas Gorges Leafs can kiss my a##.
  7. Babcock is a good coach but I lost all respect for him when he signs with the Leafs and says he likes to win. Wins most zeros after a digit contest at his local bank.
  8. I like Sam too. He'll always play second fiddle to Jack, but he was our first Tank baby.
  9. Marleau is a good player but he was unable to lead a really good team to any playoff success. Roenick threw him under the bus in the media. JR is a loudmouth but there could be some truth to his accusations. Besides, Marleau is 36. Maybe put him on a line with Gio and Matty Mo. The Geezer Gang.
  10. Guys like Matt Cooke and Raffi Torres can shorten a career. League needs to continue to hand out suspensions for the cheap shots. Having a nuclear deterrent doesn't stop those kinds of players.
  11. Zemgus is also a surprise. Not sure if he has regressed or just can't find his spot. He was Nolan's favourite and played top line for a while. I thought he'd be our Swiss Army Knife but he isn't finding any role.
  12. Ullmark. He was supposed to be out longer and was slated for the AHL. He is winning games for us already.
  13. Rocket Richard coached the Nordiques in the WHA and lasted 1game. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=4550
  14. It's an old boys club that is recycling guys all of the time. New guys come through the junior ranks and have old boy contacts. My experience is that the journeymen tend to make better coaches and Canada is full of grinders. My first point is the main reason for Canadian coaches. Richard, Howe, Hull, Orr, Lafleur, Perreault, Gretzky, Lemieux were great but could not explain and teach the fire in the belly and creativity required for greatness. They probably cannot understand why the average guy can't see the game like they did. The plumbers relied on tactics and can teach this.
  15. Leg wand was a #2 overall pick. 2 breakaways missed.
  16. All of that space and Weber hits shin pads.
  17. I like Ullmark, so far, and was hoping he could see some NHL action. Unless he is lights out, Lehner will be given the opportunity to be the #1 guy. As TBJ stated, he doesn't need to clear waivers so he's the easiest to send down. A solid, extended showing would make Johnson expendable, muddying the waters. The Dominator played parts of 2 seasons in the minors, for the Hawks organization. He was behind Belfour, who had won the Calder and Vezina trophies.
  18. He's probably loving the role he's been given here, compared to being behind Duchene, Stastny, and MacKinnon. He can contribute a bit more offense and provide leadership than he would have with the Avs. The money and term are good too, but he seems the type to want to earn it every year, not just when he is a pending UFA. That's the culture you want to instill in the young guys.
  19. Big Jack, with AC/DC song of the same name as an entrance song.
  20. He and Kassian may be out of the league soon.
  21. Our 2 NCAA goalies both win. Cal Peterson (Notre Dame) and Jason Kasdorf (RPI).
