  1. Imagine the fans reaction if they are in the hunt for a playoff spot due to Ullmark’s play. They didn’t give up much for him, I guess keeping him for the playoff run would not be the worst thing for them. Losing him July 1st would send a message to their management.
  2. Pregame, KO got ahold of the music in the room and blasted some Conway Twitty, “I’ve never been this far before”
  3. He was in for the game 4&5 losses. He hasn’t been a factor and the Oilers are skating circles around him. Lomberg and Cousins had no impact either hence this move. Probably his last NHL game.
  4. Scottie Scheffler wins again on the PGA Tour. This is his sixth win this season. He is the first player to win 6 tournaments before July since Arnold Palmer in 1962.
  5. 34 years old. His numbers are borderline 4th line. I don’t recall anything special about him. 6’1” 193. I know people hate +/- but he was -2 on a Caps team that gave up way more goals than they scored. Career 51.8% on faceoffs. Definitely not worth any large trade piece in my opinion. Don’t look my way for fancy stats.
  6. We got him, we got Matt Irwin!
  7. Hasn’t even been in the room and it’s infected. You would think at some point he might think that he is the problem and work to correct it. Or he’s now content with guaranteed big money for the next 7 years.
  8. I can’t believe how aggressive they are, there was one time yesterday when a puck at the blue line was 50/50 and the other 3 Oilers started cheating forward. The 4 on 1 never materialized but it was crazy to watch.
  9. Yeah, I don’t know about others, but my line in the sand is playoffs. If he can’t get there in his fifth year, come on man, you failed. By the way, is there anyone who can ballpark how much playoff revenue TP has missed out on in 13 years?
  10. I still can’t believe there are 32,000 draft eligible players. You have to eliminate 31,500 of them almost immediately and then knock it down to like 200 by the draft. Hey Kevyn, there’s this guy in Serbia’s U18 house league scoring 6 points a game, do you want to go see him?
  11. Well, keep him and let him light up the AHL to change opinions. Besides, he is not the only asset.
  12. Good points. You would hope he has a pecking order of 3C targets and is working the phones to get one. It’s sad to think he would only be reacting to what others are offering him. I’m sure there are a few surprise calls where a guy he hadn’t considered is available. It is frustrating to listen to that stuff without knowing what the actual plan is. He does keep things private for the most part but that can be good or bad as you are saying. He has had excuses before, inheriting a weak team, first year of a full rebuild, youngest team in the league, keeping costs down etc. He also mentions that he wasn’t around for all 13 years. If they miss the playoffs this season, he will own 5 of the 14 years, 36% of the drought. He should be feeling the heat and be aware that his job is on the line. Whether he trusts the growth of his team enough to run it back or to make moves that actually improve the team he should be held responsible for the roster he has put together.
  13. They have data on house league 18 year olds. The CHL has to be the largest entity of draft eleigible kids and the entire 3 leagues only have about 1500 players and something like 2/3 of them are draft eligible.
  14. I listened to that one too. They were like many other mocks, no consensus on anyone from 2-12.
  15. I don’t think lifting her jersey coincides with game 4 of this series but she will be getting a lot of support from fans.
  16. I don’t think I could have handled that type of job insecurity. Probably have to chain smoke between periods.
  17. Skinner’s production can easily be replaced by a combination of signings and trades. Sign Kane and it is almost a wash. Trade Krebs/Joki/prospects/picks for a real 3C and they are ahead of the game. This guy should get 15-20 goals. Do better than KO, Girgs, Jost, Robinson, VO and there is more ground gained. A slight bump up from TNT and Cozens and a full year from Quinn and they are back to having one of the highest scoring teams.
  18. Sam Snead has as many tour victories as Tiger so I think Majors are a better measuring stick. I never saw him play but I would also bring in Ben Hogan as the best in a short window. His career was great but impacted by his horrific car crash in 1949. From 1950 on he only played the Majors and maybe a couple more tournaments in a year. He only played the British Open once and won. His 9 Majors were won in 8 years with the last 5 of those years being post injury. ‘46-‘48 he won 30 tournaments.
  19. In a regular tour event, yes. We are talking about generational guys at their peaks, in Majors. Tiger won 14 of 54 and Jack won 10 of 32. The field still wins, but there are only a few guys that can.
  20. I don’t know about that. I would rather go up against 30 guys who might beat me instead of 4 who have beaten me.
  21. People were writing them off even making the playoffs let alone this. They didn’t need a culture change, just a kick in the butt. I don’t know how much of this success to attribute to Knoblauch but he really did something.
  22. I agree there were deeper fields at Tiger’s Majors as far as overall talent but the only guys who could win more than a couple of Majors in his time were Mickelson(6), Els(4) and Singh(3). Jack had to go battle with Player(9) Watson(8), Palmer(7) and Trevino(6). Jack’s fields were deeper in Major winners.
  23. The debate around the G.O.A.T. in sports will always be challenging due to the comparison of eras. Tiger will probably win out in this argument as us Nicklaus guys go away. I will say this, Tiger’s ‘97-‘10 run is the greatest period of golf dominance by a player, especially in the Majors. In 54 Majors played, he won 14 of them, was runner up 6 times, was third 3 times and was top 10 in 35 of these tournaments. He missed the cut 4 times. In a smaller sample of the ‘99 PGA to the ‘01 Masters he won 5 of the 6 Majors. From ‘99 to ‘02 he won 7 of 16 Majors. I compare him to Bobby Orr in that a great career was cut short by injuries. 3-5 more years of great play and there would be no argument against Tiger. Jack’s argument is consistent great play over a longer period of time. 18 Majors vs Tiger’s 15 is all some people say and that can be enough to convince many. Jack’s competitive time in the Majors spans from 1960 until 1987. During this period he played in 107 Majors, winning 18, finishing runner up in 19 of them and being in the top ten 71 times. He missed the cut 6 times. Tightening up the parameters to a smaller sample size, I will use the years ‘70-‘82 for Jack. He played in 52 Majors, winning 10, finishing second 10 times and third 5 times. He was top 3 in almost half of those tournaments. He was top ten in 43 of those 52 Majors. I am taking Jack because of more Major wins and being in the hunt at more of them, over a longer period of time than Tiger. Tiger’s injuries and personal struggles probably cost him hitting 20 Majors and then there would be no argument.
  24. Harkens back to a Viking raid, endless lust for violence. Not your typical Swede, more Pronger than Power, but that’s a bar a snake could jump.
  25. He made Jonathan Toews look like Captain Kangaroo. He must’ve been hard to play with, no talking or basic interaction. He didn’t acknowledge the fans much, even though they were 50 yards deep all the way around. I lost respect for him as a human but I am glad to have witnessed some incredible golf. I like him more now, he actually sucks but he’s trying to regain some of the magic. He signs autographs and spends more time answering questions.
