  1. Nemec Kasper Beck Nelson Perevalov Leinonen I only went 4 rounds.
  2. Yurov sounds like a top 10 talent but I would wait as well. Savoie, Nazar and maybe Kasper or Gauthier would be better at 9. That slot may be early for Kasper but the scouts will have a better idea. I hope they take someone who plays C at 9. I am not opposed to Yurov at 16, a lot can change in a few years and he seems like a sure thing to have the talent to make the NHL. If they don’t get Yurov at 16 then Miroshnichenko would be a possibility at 28.
  3. Fedorov’s contract was up and he was signed by the Flyers after the World Championships. Sounds like everything was above board. Perhaps all they want is more money from the Flyers. My guess is the Russian government is clamping down on people leaving and keeping an elite level athlete is a form of retaliation vs the countries that have imposed sanctions. Teams will be wary of drafting Russians more than ever. Maybe CSKA is where this can be enforced but who knows what measures they can take.
  4. I was listening to a mock draft by Locked on Senators. Both guys there talked about Stevie Y going off most people’s lists. The two of them guessed that the Wings were going to pick Lambert at 8. That would give the Sabres more options, butI doubt he goes that early. Top 3 talent but needs a lot of development and teams need to determine if he has the IQ to make the jump.
  5. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/593365/maddox-fleming I was curious. Looks like he was with the USNDTP and dropped out. He played in the USHL and had decent numbers. I haven’t seen his name mentioned anywhere this season.
  6. Sabres sign Holtby 2x$4M. Dahlin gets 70 points and is in the Norris conversation. JJP and Quinn combine for 40 goals. Thompson scores 40 goals. Cozens and Krebs take a big step forward. Sabres make the playoffs.
  7. Subban would be OK in Rochester and a possibility in Buffalo if they need to go 4-5 deep again. Heaven forbid.
  8. I think they need to get one RHD in their first four picks. 41 is the most likely impo. Nelson, Salomonsson, Rinzel, Havelid may not become top 4 guys but would help the pipeline. Shea Weber was a second rounder that did OK.
  9. He is 6’9” 228 lbs, the closest thing to that walrus gif they could find. I kid, actually 6’3.
  10. Agree with this. I see it as a good sign that Anderson wanted to come back for another year with this team. There must be something he likes with the team to spend his winter in Buffalo vs Florida.
  11. I wonder if Minnesota is interested in Ryan Johnson? They would have the most views of him and they could use guys on their ELCs. Maybe Dumba is available as a “cap casualty” and the Sabres do them a favour. I would like to see Johnson sign and develop in Rochester but a top 4 RHD would be a nice add.
  12. I am waiting to see who the starter is before whining. Anderson is OK as a 2 or 3 guy. We have seen most teams need 3 goalies over the last few seasons. Anderson may actually become the third wheel if UPL starts in Rochester and plays well. UPL should start in Rochester and will probably get some Sabres’ games due to injuries or his play. Fleury, Campbell, Husso, Holtby, Varlamov, Quick are still out there.
  13. These are solid choices. In option 1, would you take Kasper at 16 if he is still there? I could see taking Trikozov/Beck at 28.
  14. I would love to have the Leafs roll out Blackwood and Mrazek to start the year. I hope the Sabres get a shot at signing Campbell, he is one of the goalies that I think KA would like.
  15. I like him a lot but I think 9 may be too early. He may be gone at 16 so it is a difficult choice. I would take Savoie or Nazar at 9 and hope Kasper is still there at 16. If Kasper is gone I would look at Yurov, Ohgren and Lambert. I really hope Kemell, Lekkerimaki and one of the LHD go top 8 but I doubt it. I would prefer a C at 9, even a potential C like Gauthier.
  16. Prospects go to camps for the ice time, exposure and to network with organizations, scouts, agents etc… My son has been to a few junior team tryouts and development camps, hoping to make an impression but sometimes just to skate and learn.
  17. Hard to say what was going on there. Weekes has been the first on a lot of stuff lately. His accurate calls start with the line “breaking news”.
  18. Splitting and stacking firewood. I love splitting by hand, an old axe is a great tool. Nice cool, breezy morning but still sweat a bit. Mosquitoes were a pain because I was sheltered from the wind.
  19. If they could combine VO and Asplund into one player, that is the guy that would be a playoff beast. Kind of like Lehkonen.
  20. There are many skills that a captain could have, leadership styles are personal. They need to be themselves, but above all they need to lead by example. Whether it is practice, community work, games or meetings, they need to walk the talk.
  21. I voted 4x4.5. I like him for 4 years, maximum. He will be pushed down the depth chart by that time and he is not an energy line candidate. He should score goals (20-30) and that skill is required to win games. If the prospects progress faster than expected, his contract can be moved with his production and skill set.
  22. I find the ranges interesting. It is definitely not a consensus year. Nemec was as low as 2 but as high as 7 Gauthier was 3-10 Jiricek 5-12 Kemell 4-14 Lekkerimaki 4-17 Savoie 6-15 Kasper 5-21 Korchinski, Mintyukov and Geekie got top 10 consideration from scouts.
  23. Bob McKenzie said that Slafkovsky got 5 first place votes vs 4 for Wright. Wright was third on 2 lists.
