The Islanders shadowed TNT closely last night. Pageant or Cizikas were on him a lot. He’s got to figure out how to change his approach to create space for his linemates, so the opponent will get in trouble whether Tage touches the puck or not. He can draw his man into another defender’s space to act as a double sized pick. The defense, Dahlin or Power, should exploit the time an space created by TNT’s coverage. He can use the give and go a lot more instead of trying to dangle through coverage. Or, he can start physically punishing his shadow by using his size. He had a pretty good game but I’m seeing him revert to too much toe dragging.

Many older players don’t want to go, they would rather vacation in the sun. Our younger players would enjoy being around other stars and soaking up some experience.

I really like Bo Horvat. This is Horvat’s 9th NHL season. He will be 28 in a few months, he will not be a better hockey player going forward. He is on pace for a massive season as he becomes a UFA. He has turned down Vancouver’s “fair” offer. His career highs for goals is 31 and points is 61. After this career year he will probably want $8.5-9.5M per season with as much term as possible, probably 6-7 years. I would sign 24 year old Bo Horvat to that. Vancouver will want a lot of assets for him and there is no guarantee he extends. He wants to be paid, he saw what JT Miller got for a career year. He has not led Vancouver to any significant amount of success.

I don’t see big moves coming either. KA is a playing the patient approach. If a 4D shakes loose somewhere I hope he pounces on that. Even though there are tons of prospects and picks, I hope he weaponizes the cap space by being the third party in some deals. They can acquire more assets that are currency just by taking on salary for a few months. This currency can be used at the draft to get a 4D, G or 3C from another team.
