I like the "idea" of that 3rd line but it'll probably be a disaster. The Girgenson / Eichel D pairing is something I never knew I needed in my life. This late in the season and Big Z is a healthy scratch? No way he comes back next year, right? I feel the same way about Larsson. Maybe Tampa was a bad example...but trading back to a team sitting in the 5-10 range? In the hypothetical situation that the Sabres place in the draft lottery, what if we can trade that pick and saddle it with Okposo as a cap dump? I admittedly don't know other teams farm systems / cap situations to know who'd be a suitor (that's JBOTs job). I'd rather bring in a sure prospect not an 18 year old frame with more auxiliary help than draft one skilled winger.

Nelson was the first man in, and by in i mean he just glided in all unsure of himself and did nothing. That's inexcusable. Looks like Phil is doing something right by scratching him for that.

I think it's be very difficult for Vancouver (65 points) to overtake us and nearly impossible for Anaheim (63 points). To reach us. 7th seems like the lucky number which could potentially drop us down to 10th...or up to 1 2 or 3. If we place in the lottery, do we keep that pick or trade down? I'd trade down in a heartbeat to get some immediate help for the team. Potentially you can trade with Tampa to bring in Point & their 2019 first. We'd get immediate forward help + still have 2 first round picks...although i hesitate to help get Tampa a top 3 pick in this hypothetical situation...but a similar trade like that is what I'd do.

I'm torn between thinking the Sabres can rally behind Jack's suspension and come out flying or they're going to wilt faster than blanched spinach. They're on home ice so Phil was have some control of matchups but with this line-up it doesn't really matter much. My predicition is Sobotka goes 2-6 on the left face-off dot and Nylander says "it's hard to win in this league" in the post game.

It doesn't matter what he saw in the moment. If he hears a whistle, followed by a crunch and then looks over and sees his captain laying on the ice without a helmet that's all he needs to know.

Is Reinhart really worse at 1 or 2 or 3 center than Casey or Erod or Sobotka? I don't get it. Phil is lucky Jack's suspension is happening during a 2 game homestead so he can have some modicum of control against match-ups. This team line-up would get eaten alive on the road.

5 of our last 8 games are vs. NJ, OTT & Detroit...imagine being fighting for a playoff spot ending the season with 10 points to take from teams at the bottom of the league? That could have been cool.

Rangers (1 point back) play Edmonton tonight (2 points back) and Chicago (2 points back) plays AZ. A Edmonton OT win coupled with a Chicago win will put us in a 4-way tie for 7th place (with Van 4 points behind and ANA 6 points back). Will the Sabres be capable of winning the next without Eichel? My gut tells me at least one of those games they'll over perform and pull off a win but my other gut tells me "if you though the Avs game was embarrassing, just wait and check this out". I feel like 7th is the lowest we can go but with this team in free-fall and a few bounces for VAN or ANA we can conceivable sink even lower. I hate that I'm doing this analysis right now ?

Regardless of intent, the primary point of contact of Eichel's hit was to the guy's head and that's going to be at least a game suspension. Zadorov's hit was also late and he also got a piece of Jack's head, not sure why that's getting a free pass.

I never played ice hockey as a kid but growing up I played roller hockey into my teens. Went to college and didn't touch a stick for 13-14 years. 4 years ago I made the decision to start playing ice hockey and it's been such a blast. The piers has Division 1-8 and then a rec league which is a lower-level developmental league run by the New York City Gay Hockey association. I'm a captain of one of the rec-league teams and if you're interested I can send you info about alt-ing (if you think you're not too good for it. the goal isn't to have people come in and skate the puck up and down the ice. we have some higher level players in it who are there to help out others and pass the puck and stuff). I'm one of the better players in that league and in D8 I'd say i'm slightly above average compared to the rest of team? I also play D6 down at Aviator and I'm on the lower end of that team. The rec league is hands down my favorite because people are there to just have fun and it doesn't get weirdly over-competitive as D8 or D6 at Aviator. I can also try to get you to sub in in D8. My team used to need subs all the time but last year we added 5-6 players to the roster and now it's rare we need to go out and find people, but I'm friends with a bunch of people on other teams and could probably help you find a sub spot. PM me if you're interested. That'd be fun to hit up a stick and puck together, however, there's no way i'd ever make it out to brewster to hit the ice at 6 am as I live in park slope. I have a car though so can travel.

Yeah, I skate there on Saturday/Sundays. On the weekdays I play in the prospect park and yesterday was out at Aviator (Floyd Bennett Field). Got smoked last night 7-2. Still more entertaining than the Sabres.
