And was crucified for it even though the new guy is getting acceptance for the same. I was not one of those that criticized Bylsma for implementing a system based on the players on the roster. I was in the extreme minority though.

It seems to me that Housley (and Botteril at first) was saying that they were implementing a system, and by inference they were forcing that system on the players we had. It’s a process, so to speak.

The compost is still pretty ripe.

Truthiness.

I’m not sure he’d even see the ice on those teams. Jason Dawe comes to mind. Put up points on a severely talent deficient team but did nothing away from the Sabres. Zemgus rookie season ad well. Give a 4th line guy 2nd line minutes and he’ll put up mediocre middle 6 points.

If there is anything that gives me hope this offseason, it is that we have a coach who seems to be inclined to implement a system that fits the roster we have, and not try to shoehorn the players into a system that we might someday have the players to run. That alone should improve the climate in the room, and we should see it on the ice.

Like most families, mine has lost great people to war time service. May their sacrifices never be forgotten.

I can’t pit my finger on it, but I feel the same way.

5 yrs is tough. My first reaction was to say that if center position was an emergency....... and then I remember what our center roster looks like. Hard to get to optimism with our center lineup and the options available.

He was the center I wanted Buffalo to acquire in the wake of Drury/Briere. I was really disappointed when he was dealt to Ottawa and not Buffalo. Turris with Vanek could have been interesting. If his skating is still up to par, and we could get him for a short term deal, he'd be low risk, I think. But if he wants term and/or the legs aren't there anymore, pass.

Leaders also recognize bad situations and seek out situations better suited to what they bring all the damned time.

They should puruse all of them. Let’s get talent in here. Stop when the roster is good.

Thats just it, the Bruins have been at a high level for about a decade now. They were way ahead of us at this point in the careers of their core. The Tampa core is two maybe three years older than our core. Look what they accomplished in that 2-3 yr gap. And Tampa needs to shed pieces. This is our future and we haven’t done anything yet with our Tankfruit.

A player wearing his heart on his sleeve doesn't bother me in the least. And certainly not one as good as O'Reilly. Unprofesional is calling out your teammates for being lousy. Or your coach. My view of it is very different than yours. He didn't air any dirty laundry. He just said the losing was getting to him. That seems like a pretty professional response to me.

You answered your own question. There was no expectation of winning with the roster that was built. And likely the coach that was hired. It was evident for the 3(?) yrs he was here, AND there was no reasonable expectation that there would be enough roster turnover and a coach turnover to avoid it for his 4th year. That's a 3rd of a very good players career down the stink pipe.

The drive from Detroit to Niagara Falls across the Niagara peninsula suuuuu--uuuuu--uuucks.

Completely agree. ROR wasn’t a locker room cancer, he was one of many highly competitive players who couldn’t stomach multiple seasons with no expectation of winning. I’m hoping this is a lesson that you don’t jettison excellent players because they don’t like the environment. You fix the environment instead. Guys like ROR are rare commodities.

Carlo Colaiacovo tweet: It’s crazy to think that the buffalo sabres traded this guy because he was sick of losing ?♂️ Absolutely love Ryan Oreilly and everything he brings to a team both on and off the ice #stlblues

And it’s Canadian billions too, so take a 0 off or something.

I prefer Ferland as the non center forwad simply because we don’t have anyone on the roster with his particular game.
-
This really puts things into perspective. I'm not a fan of moving on from players like Larsson, Girgensons, and Risto until we have players on the roster that are actually pushing them off. Not hope toos, or some day, actually moving them to the press box now. There is no addition by subtraction.

Everything has been wrong for too long. Disappointed is a state of fanhood now.
