  1. Me, 25 years from now, my 10 year old grand son sitting on my lap. Let me tell you about that wonderful spring in 2015. You see, the Sabres that year were comfortably in 30th place and guaranteed a generational player. Remember that Connor McDavid guy who was inducted into the hall of fame when you were 5? Well, the players decided they didn't want to play with him so they decided to play really well and finish 29th place overall that year. Aww yes, that wonderful, wonderful spring of 2015.
  2. I can only hope the Leafs continue their 'stellar' play again tonight. I know the players are playing for contracts, but don't tell me that Moulson wouldn't love to end his career with McDavid on his team? Hope the Sabres continue to play hard and narrowly lose. I hate to say it, but it's for the good of the team. I do not think anyone is tanking on purpose though, unlike many Leafs players!!
  3. Goals off skates should be allowed, period. The idea that it's unsafe otherwise makes no sense. Players still do it so safety has nothing to do with it. As it is now, it's just a disallowed goal. So does disallowing a goal make it safer? It's ok for a defender to kick the puck away from goal, is this a safer motion than a forward kicking toward a goal? Take away the grey area and make goals legal off skates, period. Safety has nothing to do with it.
  4. I thinks it is absolutely ok to "quietly" want the team to not beat Arizona and lose. Only because they have a shot at a generational player. Any other year, it's not ok. But the fans who cheered when Arizona scored, should be feeling some shame. Like others have said, quiet fist pump is sufficient. No need to make the team feel like crap. As for Bucky Gleason's article... loved the post from someone who went back into the ol' archives. It was unfathomable for Reiger not to do all he could to make the team as bad as possible, therefore getting the best shot at #1. But this year, when the "nextest one" is available, it's embarrassing? Come on Bucky. Grow up. Use your head. Tanking is never ok, but don't crap on the management for how this team is set up for this year. Next year, no matter who they draft, the team will start to climb up the ladder.
  5. Guys/Gals, The fans are in a very tough spot. Clearly a real fan doesn't want their team to lose, EVER. But the circumstances are very odd this season. The team is working hard but they aren't very good. We get that. I watched part of the third period and the Sabres looked to be trying their best to me. They nearly won the game in regulation if not for some great saves by Smith. But everyone knows that not finishing last THIS YEAR, isn't a good thing for THIS SABRES' team. They need to finish last to get one of two generational players. Fans have supported the team with sell out after sell out and having one weird night where the best thing for the organization was a loss, it's tough to complain about fans wanting that outcome. Should fans cheer the opposition win? Of course not, but they pay their money and will continue when next year's team starts its climb up to respectability again. I've been impressed with the team's effort of late and while I want them to lose entertaining one goal games, it's a testament to the professionalism of the players to play hard each night. The season is nearly over and the players who are keepers have gained some much needed experience and we all know the future is very bright. I hope we don't go through another season like this again, but to say they haven't worked hard and tried would be a lie. I think other teams in the league have done a much less transparent job of tanking than our team. See Leafs! Let's hope this doesn't end with us not getting the 100% chance of getting either CMcD or JE.
  6. Grigs was brought into the league too young and it hurt him being on a really crappy team too. Now he's all messed up in the head, i'm quite sure and his game has never been given a real chance. I'd like to see him on this team with some talent around him and then see what he's like. He's no Mogilny, but imagine if the team gave up on Almo too early. That 76 goal season would never have happened. He got to play with #16 so that obviously helped but Mogilny wasn't that great when he first started. I hope Grigs can make the team and prove he's a good player. Time will tell.
  7. Teddy is gone in 16 games. I'd be shocked if he weren't fired. No way you want Nolan "teaching" McDavid how to play hockey. Yikes. Next coach, has a Cup and knows all about bringing along a Superstar or two. His name, Dan Bylsma.
  8. The Buffalo News article suggested he'd probably get the last 18 games of the season and boom, he's sent down again. It must be so frustrating for the kid. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned into a real solid player with the right coaching.
  9. I don't believe in curses either but one can't just figure we won't get one of the top two "prizes" And no, I haven't watched many games this year, they aren't on TV in my part very often. I just know that when a team isn't very good, my stress is low because there are no expectations. It's when they are a playoff team that it's stressful. Thankfully this current cycle of sports for me has most of my teams in rebuild mode. So I worry very little. But this 3 team race has me worried.
  10. Been awhile so I figured I'd start a thread. I have been onboard with the team being 30th all year long because obviously it's very good for our future. But I can't help but think we are in serious jeopardy of not finishing last. And I know, I think we all know, that if we don't finish last, we will not end up with the first or second pick and this lost season will be a waste. I have been watching the other teams trying to tank and catch the Sabres and one thing I see is the Sabres do put in the effort, while the Coyotes and Oilers not so much. I know they are all "pros" but my gut is telling me we aren't going to finish last. I hope I'm wrong because either McDavid or Eichel can help this team move forward faster to respectability. This season has been all NO stress because there is no playoff picture, but I have a feeling the STRESS will come in the final 10 games as we crawl to the finish line. Let's hope we crawl slower than the Yotes and Oil. But one can't help but wonder if the Sabres are cursed.
  11. Nice win. Myers played great, saved the game with seconds left in OT. Love how much he's improved his physical play. Neuvurth (sp) looked great too. Hodgson was huge. LOL, joke! Nice win.
  12. First post of the season. Wow is all I can say. Amazing to have veteran players like Gionta, Moulson and Stewart not firing everything on net just to get shots on goal. Amazing. I am super impressed by Myers. To be on a team that has 12 goals for in 12 games and only be -2 is absolutely incredible. I hope we don't move him as we will regret it. Looks like Teddy Nolan may have already lost the room as he's thrown his guys under the bus more than once this year. Maybe his heart isn't in it for the rebuild, or maybe he's just not that good a coach. I hope we keep losing but it would be nice if they were more competitive on a regular basis. They held their own agains the B's so it can be done. Lots of worries, but losing really is the best option. However, there is no excuse for how the above mentioned forwards have contributed absolutely nothing, aside from the Stewart fight. Maybe Grigerenko was sent down because he "was" ready to contribute and this team just isn't ready for him to do so? Good on team for sending Reinhart down. He'll be better off for it mentally. Feel like they may play well today. Maybe even have a defenseman score!!
  13. anyone in here suggesting miller has had a good playoff is fooling themselves. Too many early goals in games. Aside from game 1, he was outgoaltended by Crawford. Miller was brought in to put the Blues over the top. He didn't do that. It's too bad cuz we just lost out on a better pick.
  14. Not looking like we are going to get that better pick from the Blues. Miller keeps letting in that one goal a game he can't let in. Damn it! I want them to go the Conference Finals and then whatever
  15. Seabrook should be gone for the remainder of the first round, no matter how many games it goes. So 2-5 games depending on when it ends. He was slashing players all night long and getting away with it. Two nasty ones against Tarasenko. Then the childish stick waving in the facial area, again no penalty. He was on borrowed time and he launched himself into Backes who didn't have the puck. Dirty hockey imo.
  16. Not the real Bob Mckenzie. Relax guys
  17. +1
  18. I imagine that after Leino is bought out, his career in the NHL is over. Nobody wants a guy who gets paid by the shot.
  19. Mouslon as a long term Sabre would be sweet. He's a solid player, not flaky like Vanek.
  20. Question: Will he wear my beloved Alex Mogilny's number? I don't mind the pickup, but I don't want anyone wearing 89 on Buffalo.
  21. I think Moulson is a better pickup over Vanek. Cheaper, not as flaky and more consistent. Vanek is too streaky and too slow and too soft. As for Canucks rebuilding, if they move Kesler and Edler their rebuild will be mild and they could be back quickly. If they don't, then the Sabres are already ahead of them. This next 24 hours is huge for gillis and the team. If he gets nothing done, he's done.
  22. Luongo's contract doesn't suck so bad anymore!!
  23. Love when Darryl Reaugh said Ville Leino is getting paid by the shot!
  24. I agree. I'd take him over vanek any day. Vanek is a flake, MM works hard and is more durable IMO.
