A NMC isn't meant to help a player with a 8 year contract go the place he wants; the idea of a NMC is to prevent your team from trading you, only when the NMC ends up in the last year of a contract does it become what Hall used it for. Even with a NMC, Eichel's leverage is practically nil with the NMC as his threat is rather toothless. Oh, so you won't accept a trade to Calgary, then I guess you can sit on your hands. If he tries to pull a Hall, the Sabres will just let him kick dirt and I doubt many players would hold that against them seeing as the Bruins are in our division.
-
Not really, we can just let him sit around until he waives for other teams.
-
Bucci was right about the fact all night they looked slightly out of sync. A myriad of scoring chances hitting skates oddly or stick heels. Glad to see the battle until the end regardless. We need Samuelsson up here to help create some defensive presence.
-
The Sabres do a lot of stuff good, a lot of stuff bad and it shows in their play lol. @Gatorman0519 either find something positive to say about the team or shut up tonight already. You are the most depressing on this game day thread to the point I am honestly curious if you are a Sabres fan. Endlessly talking about how Eichel was great and we won't find another Eichel is like continuously telling people in the desert they are out of water.
-
Part of their problem is they can’t win a face off to save their life. Plus on the road we can’t try to line match to protect the youngsters.
-
Not a terrible 1st but the lack of Olofsson is very noticeable. Dahlin has zero ability presently to prop up a defensive blackhole in Butcher. The 6on5 goal by Skinner was nice Merkley got very lucky on his goal, but yet another 1st career goal was scored on us.

Why do we seem to always have injuries to key scorers
-
They save 2.85 mil per year and 15 mil in real money

Media Wrap

He's seen as a cap dump to multiple Coyotes fans. He hasn't exactly impressed in Arizona and makes 5.85mil for 5 years and due to his contract structure is owed about 29 million still not including this year's remaining salary.
-
No, Schmaltz would be a cap dump to Buffalo in return for them retaining on Eichel. As such Buffalo receives Tuch, Krebs, Brisson, a conditional 22 1st, the Rangers 3rd and an unprotected 23 1st. Arizona saves money as Schmaltz's contract was backloaded Vegas gets Eichel at 7mil cap hit.
-
Just thought of something thanks to a HFboard post. What if we took Nick Schmaltz from Arizona in return for them retaining 3mil on Eichel.
-
Based on the trade proposal supposedly nixed on Friday; the cap wouldn't work without legitimate gymnastics and even then there would still be a problem cap wise. Coghlan, Dylan Krebs, Peyton Tuch, Alex 2022 1st round pick (VGK) for Eichel cant be made cap compliant without Buffalo retaining at least 3 mil and I can understand why we'd balk at that. Obviously they could "Kucherov" Eichel but they may need him just to get into the playoffs to begin with. Not to mention he'd be likely ready to go by the end of the Olympic Break which is two months prior to the playoffs.
-
You can retain 75% over two teams. 50% of the Total and then Team 2 can do 50% of the remaining contract
-
I wouldn’t care what VGK, Anaheim or Calgary offered me if they required 5mil retention. It wouldn’t matter because we’d lose pieces down the line due to the anchor of 5 mil in dead cap. 2 mil can be skirted around and ignored. Im also looking down the line to a Skinner buyout in 2 years, 1 of those years has a 6mil + cap hit and anything more than 2 puts us around 9 to 10 mil in dead cap for a season.
-
2 mil is my max; anything more and it becomes a legitimate hinderance to the roster. Additionally I’d refuse to take multiple cap dumps plus retain.

I’d say the main difference between Granato and Krueger’s 3rd period collapses are based on the team itself. Krueger wanted them to play defense and thus the team would inevitably fall into a turtle formation. Under Granato It looks different; it isn’t as much intentional as it is a product of wear. When we play more physical teams, we seem to run out of gas in the 3rd and have to little of energy to push the opponent’s players back with our forecheck. But we don’t stop forechecking; only it loses its overall effectiveness. Essentially Krueger would hold out in the fort and get besieged until they lost where as Granato sallies forth until exhaustion this effectively forcing the team into the fort.

I disagree, I’d guess Adams wants to hit the ground running and the more flexibility the better. Let’s say the Sabres get 80 pts this year and legitimately look better. Adams needs to have a flexibility and foresight to see the mass quantity of great value UFAs that are bound to shake loose and have an ability to strike at any time. If ROR had no history here; I’d guess our analytics department would be all over trying to bring him in to solidify the center group around the many youngsters. In my opinion, if VGK wants 2 mil retention the base price is Theodore, Tuch and Krebs + a 1st and conditional picks. Why those two? Tuch and Theodore have good contracts for 5 & 4 years respectively and one can easily imagine sticking 1 mil on each of their contracts and moving on. Whereas taking only futures gives the appearance of far more general suffering, a constant reminder of Eichel, and effectively a slap in the face when looking at the cap overall.
-
I doubt it, even retention would be paid by insurance more than likely. Barring insurance not covering the surgery which still would leave a fraction of the risk at 2mil. I believe it’s a cap reason

“The market was soft on Korpisalo and all goalies trades last summer because the free-agent market was flooded with players. But now, two-plus weeks into the season, some best-laid plans have fizzled and other situations have changed. We poked around with three NHL front-office types. Arizona, Buffalo and Montreal were seen as the most likely destinations for Korpisalo, who has one year remaining on his contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.” “Arizona: The Coyotes have stumbled out of the gate (0-7-1) and have the worst save percentage (.862) in the league. At some point, they’re going to need a goaltender for the future, but Arizona may also be in full-on tank mode this season. The fix can wait. Buffalo: It’s early, but the Sabres are off to a surprising start (5-1-1) and goaltending (a .942 save percentage) has been a big part of it. Craig Anderson and Dustin Tokarskiaren’t the long-term answers. But Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, a second-round pick in 2017, isn’t far from being NHL-ready. Montreal: The Canadiens had a closed-door meeting after losing in Los Angeles on Saturday, falling to 2-7-0 on the season. Never a good sign. Goaltender Carey Price’s future with the club was already murky, and now he’s in the NHL player assistance program. Jake Allen (.901) is off to a rough start.” Theres the vital parts

Unlikely to anything to do with real money. More so with cap
-
I'd disagree only because Sabres fans are pretty tired of endlessly waiting on draft pick based prospects and the Sabres will need a player to market from the trade.
-
We just have so much trouble against bulkier teams
