  1. Anyone else see that Ovechkin had two goals in past two nights overturned by this dumb challenge rule? He has to wait a little longer to overtake Federov as the highest scoring NHL Russki. Justin Williams was the offending party on both. In the spirit of full disclosure, I didn't see either, and maybe they were blatant, but I don't like this rule either.
  2. I've never been impressed with EJ Hradek; I doubt you'll get your answer from him.
  3. As an old guy, definitely in the grey beard category, and father of two daughters / grandfather of five beautiful girls, I'd like to make a few observations regarding this thread. 1. I read this forum almost daily because the discussions are generally well thought out, civil and far different (in a good way) than most other sports fan sites. 2. Almost every poster on this topic has correctly stated preemptively that rape is a heinous crime. 3. As best I can tell, there has been very little factual information released by the authorities about this case. 4. Some posters seem to have already formed strong opinions about what happened. 5. Ad hominem attacks of others based on differences of speculation on what may or may not have occurred have no place in an intelligent discussion. 6. I see no fault in urging young women to avoid putting themselves in risky situations; in fact I try to remind my loved ones of this often. 7. More importantly, I regularly teach my sons and grandsons to always treat women with respect and understand that no means no. 8. Rape is a violent and heinous crime. We can only hope that as this case unfolds, justice will be served. In the meantime, I think that some here who have worked themselves into a lather about things others have said need to take a deep breath and wait to see what really happened. That's my two cents. Now I'll go back to lurking.
  4. I'd love to check it out, but can't find on Amazon. Any more details that might help search?
  5. I'd be okay with this. Initially thought 2x5 mil would be the ceiling, but term is much more important. The extra 1.5 mil per year isn't that much in the big scheme of things, so long as we don't have to commit for 3 years. Beauchemin was a #1 pairing on one of the best teams last year, and as a Dman, he should have a couple years tread left.
  6. Thanks for the correction. Must've gotten him confused with Lubo Vishnovsky!
  7. Hoss, I like the way you think. I just posted the same thing in the trade thread, before checking here! I love following all the great things posted in SS, but I won't have time to ever be as prolific in posting as many of you (at least until I retire from my day job!) As it is, I rarely post because there are so many sharp folk here with quick response times who end up usurping many thoughts I may have. Won't keep me from reading every day anyway!
  8. Bieksa to Ducks, and they will let Beauchemin go to FA. Apparently, Francoise wanted three years and Ducks only willing to give two. He's 38, but coming off a great year in #1 pairing for Anaheim. Would anyone like to see GMTM go after him? I would, but not for three years. Two @ $10M, I'd take him. (Maybe this should go in FA thread, but it was prompted by Bieksa trade)
  9. Yep, should help keep the dew shaken off the lily from hitting your shoe!
  10. As in Brian O'Neill, AHL MVP for the Calder Cup-winning Manchester Monarchs, and Ian "Scotty" Morrison, retired chief of NHL referrees? Who are these guys really?
  11. I heard this part of the Babcock interview and I completely agree with you that he should be called out with tough questions like this. I cringed, however, when Begnini said "lied". Very poor choice of words. It was apparent to me from Babcock's responses (or should say lack of) to Harrington and Begnini that he (using Wells report language) more likely than not indeed used Team Pegula to drive up his price to the Leafs. We'll still be OK without him behind the bench. ;)
  12. Saw BB several times over the past 15 years, thinking each time would be the last one! One of the all time greats, and we are lucky we had him so long. Makes me think of the good old days when I saw and drunkenly danced to Muddy Waters and his band at the Belle Star in the south towns... It was awesome!!
  13. I haven't lived in WNY for a couple decades, but my son and his family now live in Orchard Park. He has taken me to Buffalo's Best Bar in the southtown area a couple of times, and I have to say the wings were great. They were meaty, crispy and plenty hot. Nice beer selection there, too.
  14. I'm old and I don't get this reference. Explain? Oh, and my birthday is 3/14!
  15. Are you referring to Checker's on Hertel? Great neighborhood gin mill owned by a HS classmate of mine. It's actually pretty well run, as the employees are treated like family and the patrons are exceptionally loyal!
  16. I was actually at the game where Schoeny fought Cashman in the runway. Going strictly on memory (I could look it up but what fun is that?!), I think he also fought Vadnais AND Bobby Orr in the same game. And I think the Sabres won the game. Great memories! Schoenfeld was sturdy, tough and a leader. He was not a great skater, and was known to sometimes take himself out of position to make big hits. Nevertheless, he was in many ways the heart and soul of the mid 70's Sabres. Although the skill sets are different, if Bogo could become that to the Sabres now, getting a productive Kane would just be icing on the cake for the trade. I feel that Bogo will fill the bill. Love his game so far.
  17. My NO list: 1. Bruins 2. Bruins 3. Flyers OK with most any other team - if the Leafs get McDavid, they'll likely screw up their rebuild anyway. I'm REALLY OK with Eichel. Watched him play for BU a lot this year and pumped for the Frozen Four final tonight. He'll be a fine consolation prize if we pick #2.
  18. I totally agree with you, my fellow New Hampshirite. It's really a shame that they both can't be knocked out of the playoffs!
  19. The "Nolan bashing" did not come out of nowhere. If anything, it has been a low rumble for some time, only overshadowed by the team's multiple other inadequacies. But he is not a good coach for today's NHL. Skip the sentimentality over how he was "wronged" half a generation ago. He should be replaced before next season.
  20. I agree with you, Promo. My feeling, from reading through all the rumors and "insider" information leading up to Deadline Day, is that TM waited too long to unload Stewart and had almost nothing left to choose from (2017 2nd) when the music stopped. In any case, the team should be worse for the rest of this season. Problem is, Coyotes will be even worse than us. Sure hope the 4 point spread holds up; otherwise NOBODY will be happy in Sabreland.
  21. It's also the only place where I've seen 'shart'!
  22. Hey, is anyone else enjoying the Bruins' struggles right now? They only took two of possible four points out of Alberta this week. Panthers only one point behind them for final Wild Card. Doesn't get easier in the short term for the B's, as they play in St. Louis and In Chicago next two games. I really don't think they'll miss the playoffs, but it is fun to see the sky-is-falling attitude among their fans - at least the ones who still follow the team! The Bruins had better not miss the playoffs, because (as another poster already postulated) it'd be no surprise if they won the lottery! :censored:
  23. At least the Timmy's advertisement played for me before the content was blocked... :wallbash:
  24. Wow, ruined careers even before either has finished one complete season! Step away from the ledge, my friend. Two seasons of tanking sucks to watch as fans, but with halfway decent coaching (i.e., teaching proper positioning, puck control, and an actual system) and better talent, these dark days will recede into history. I do not believe that a coach has to have prior NHL HC experience in order to be successful. In fact, the Old Boy Network results in way too many retreads being repeatedly hired. Give me an innovative, talented coach, even if young or unknown, over a "name" with stale ideas any day! And do not give up on the kids. The kids are alright!
