  1. Buffalo is part of the rotation now. I'll bet when TP builds the domed stadium next to the FNC we'll be a candidate for a Final Four. Also expect another Frozen Four soon.
  2. Baloney that losing those two players made that much difference in the fortune of the Sabres this year.
  3. Aaaaaand, they lose by 19. But they led the first 27 of the game.
  4. FYI UB is leading #1 Kentucky 38-33 at the half. Game is on ESPNU.
  5. Don't the ECHL LV Wranglers average around 8K? That's not shabby.
  6. Well you know now. Two more games left: Wed 11/19 8pm on either ESPN2 or ESPNU vs Kent State, then a "Black Friday" 11/28 game at UMASS on ESPNU. Time TBA. Oh and UB men's basketball plays Kentucky (yes the Kentucky in last year's Final Four) this Sunday at 12 noon on ESPNU.
  7. Am I? I hear we have talent. Never seen any actual evidence. Besides talent is just part of the equation. Drive, desire and heart molded by solid coaching is also important. To the latter all I hear is a lot of talk but no visible effect from it. Is that the plan? GMTM builds the NHL equivalent of "Major League" except this lovable bunch of scamps just keep sucking and the coach can't really coach?
  8. You are ignoring the learning curve each of these players face once they make it to Buffalo. You don't just load up a bunch of rooks and say "start winning." I'm also starting to have my doubts if Nolan and his bunch can coach at all at this level.
  9. Now that is a good question. There must be some way because WGRZ has a contract with UB to show nothing but UB sports on their HD-2 channel. (Wow, that's TWO TV contracts for something allegedly no one watches!) As to your first point, I work in radio and newspaper more than TV, but yes $1M/yr is not that much money if you compare it to what the SEC or NFL get. But ESPN is not a charity. A million dollars is still a million dollars and they don't hand that out for giggles. Just an FYI, UB played Akron (shown on ESPNU) right up against the Sabres last night, and while I flipped back and forth I mostly watched UB because they won 55-24. (A new single game scoring record I believe.) I'd rather watch that than Tyler Myers looking for his jock on the ice. As much as I would rather do ANYTHING else than watch a golf and fishing show, people do watch them.
  10. You don't get over this level of bad quickly. Anyone who thinks we are competitive even with McDavid is kidding themselves. The tank is much longer than you realize.
  11. Wow. At first I thought it was Risto that got beat, but then I realized it was Myers. How does a vet lose his jock like that?
  12. First (716) food review I've read on Facebook: The $9 stuffed peppers sucked. So did the wings.
  13. Maybe....but you'd think there would be endless other options besides UB to give a million to, no? And yet they do.
  14. You say no one watches UB football yet ESPN just gave them a million a year for 13 years to show their games nationally. They also gave them their own portal on WatchESPN to show all their sports. Even if the Sabres were the only thing people wanted to watch, to fully control the revenue of their own broadcasts is huge. I also feel slightly insulted that WNY has to depend on an NYC cable channel for our games, as if we aren't capable of handling that.
  15. No but there is more than enough potential content available to fill a week. Not everything is going to be major league but really few regional sports networks are. Sabres are your flagship, throw in Amerks, Jackals, Otter and Ice Dog games, Buffalo Bills ancillary programs, Canisius, RIT and Niagara hockey, Big 4 basketball, UB football, high school sports, Bisons and Red Wings baseball local golf and fishing shows, and so on. There is plenty to show and still be 99% local.
  16. Because people were dumping their tickets for this game for $10 on StubHub.
