  1. Probably the Ted Nolan effect. Though I think he probably coaches a little better than Nolan, the principle of his system always seems to be playing with speed and nothing else. It's a good message if your goal is to establish a hard working "culture", but at some point maybe the players are looking for more than just "skate hard".
  2. The problem with that reputation is that, if it's true, you end up with employees who live in fear, which makes them unwilling to be creative, speak up when they think something is wrong, or take risks. You end up with business culture that rewards doing what you're told, keeping your head down, and hoping your paycheck keeps coming until you can find a way out. You hemorrhage your best employees that way. The good ones don't stay in places like that. The bad ones do... and then you end up hiring your family members because they're the only ones who you can guilt into showing up.. Kinda sounds like GM in the 80s...
  3. I need to know what position I'm in that allows me to fire Terry. Am I some kind of board member? God? An elected representative of the entire fan base? Do I also get to hire a replacement?
  4. I don't know, they've publicly announced that they've made the classic pivot to hiring "people they trust" which is just another way of saying they can't or don't know how to find good people. Turning inward doesn't feel promising, it's what you do when you're paranoid.
  5. I dunno, their only response to getting grifted by the people they hired was to go out and hire their friends and family members. That's not better, that's worse! That's saying "we can't pick the right people from a vast talent pool, so we're just picking people we know."
  6. I guess I'll say one more thing, which is that no matter what the Pegulas do they always come off as wildly incompetent. Imagine being Kim Pegula and saying "we trusted the wrong people", and having "the wrong people" be like..half your business management people? Across multiple entities in your "portfolio". How does that happen? How do you fail to set up a logical organizational structure? Don't they teach this sh*t in business school? Isn't this stuff "being a job creator 101"? I bet you could pick 5 people from this forum, give them total control over the Pegula empire, and it would work out fine.
  7. All I have to say is that a lot of the signs of dysfunction that many identified here years ago (especially the stuff @josie heard/suspected about the way PSE was operating) are pretty much laid bare in this article.
  8. I think I have to award this one to Indabuff and Sloptop (I'm taking artistic license). I can definitely hear myself exclaiming "Ope! sloptop." as I try to pick the top out of my Spaghettios.
  9. Funny, I'm losing weight. I only eat when I'm hungry now, instead of on a schedule, and I've been working out pretty much every day because I don't have anything better to do after work. I'm consistently under 200lbs for the first time since I was briefly training to become a cop like...11 years ago, and I'm not even doing any cardio.
  10. You know how when you're opening a can of soup and you go too far and the lid falls into the can? There has to be a name for that.
  11. If you're interested, I highly recommend reading Walter Rauschenbusch. Local guy to boot.
  12. There are few things in this world better than a hot tub in the snow
  13. I've always been a fan of the classic oval track. I love the local "speedways" and the grit and grime that comes with them. Dirt tracks are glorious. NASCAR used to be cool precisely because it was deliberately unrefined compared to Indy and F1. Now it's too homogenized. I stopped watching around when Mark Martin retired. They could bring me back if they wanted to. But they don't.
  14. Yeah, it'd definitely not going to stimulate anything. I'm not planning to use it, but if I have to it will be to pay rent, which basically does nothing for the economy.
  15. It's gotta be a tie between Edwards and Miller.
  16. The Phoenix one? I watched it too. Man NASCAR used to be sketchy lol
  17. FWIW, I think the speed you get it will depend on whether or not you filed your taxes yet. I filed mine pretty much right away this year because I needed that refund, so I think that put me closer to the front of the line?
  18. Got mine a couple days ago.
  19. Amen. I like pro sports, but I've also been following it for a long time. Taking a break isn't really killing me, which means I probably don't need it in my life that badly.
  20. Seriously though, I'll buy one. The hibiscus pattern is a thing from my more active days in paintball and I'd love to have one.
  21. Got any more of that hibiscus pattern? I'll buy one.
  22. Botterill taking the most comical L to date on Scandella is something else.
