Montreal Trades Marco Scandella to STL for 2nd and Conditional 4th.
darksabre replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Such assets. Much management. Wow. -
I think Murray might have been more successful if Darcy hadn't burned the whole damn thing to the ground.
-
That's kinda what I'm saying. There was certainly something he could have done, right? Instead his legacy is that he failed to re-sign them both, fired his best friend coach, started a tank when he shouldn't have, and sold off too many parts to do it. He destroyed his reputation AND the team, and it all started with rolling over for LQ.

I'm tired of blaming Quinn. Regier was the GM. It was his job to build the team. If Quinn was in his way then he needed to figure out a solution.
-
I think they probably wanted to prevent people from panic buying and hoarding masks (more than they did.)
-
Yeah, GMTM might have worked out. We'll never know. But Darcy? Jesus. Even if he did some good things in his career, we cannot allow for the devastation he caused down the stretch. The complete destruction of the development pipeline, the mishandling of important players contracts, and the ill-timed fire sale that went way too far and resulted in a forever tank? Screw Regier. He doesn't get to blame this whole mess on Quinn, or OSP, or whatever other fall guy we've created in this fan base.
-
Also, picking Regier in this poll is unforgivable. None of this happens if not for his poorly timed tank. And blame whoever you want for Drury/Briere, but it was Regier's JOB to get one of those guys signed and he failed. He failed so hard we're still talking about it. Regier destroyed the Buffalo Sabres. Eff him into the sun.
-
Assuming time is a construct we're willing to throw in the trash for this thought experiment, I'm picking Botterill but putting him in as Regier's replacement in the timeline. I think Jason would have been a better Tank Commander than filling the role he currently is. I don't think things would be as bad if the GMTM era had never happened.

I've had this happen and in my experience you can typically sub carafes from one Mr Coffee into another Mr. Coffee if you do some digging to see what replacement carafes fit what machines. Then what I do is order the replacement carafe for the old machine AND a new Mr Coffee that fits the replacement carafe. That way you have a new carafe for your existing Mr Coffee, and when that machine inevitably dies, you'll already have a replacement carafe on hand for the new Mr Coffee when its carafe inevitably breaks. Then you just keep the cycle going until your children have to handle your estate.

Bang for the buck: which Sabres earned their contracts

Interesting stuff. This all lines up perfectly with the good ol eye test. -
Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

I ended up buying an lot of the first 5 books on eBay, used paperbacks. Very excited to read at least the first 3. Figured it was a good idea. I'm trying to read more fiction anyway. -
Because we live in a culture that punishes people for taking care of themselves and others and we have unlearned the habits that would have come with such a mindset. Take the concept of sick days for example. A lot of people don't even get sick days. Or they get punished for using them. So people don't stay home, they come to work. Worrying about yourself and the people around you doesn't matter when your job is on the line. We don't have the excess hospital capacity to handle sickness because the healthcare system is set up only to make insurance companies, lobbyists, and congressmen rich, not provide care. Like Woody noted earlier, our hospitals are normally already overwhelmed before a crisis like this springs up, and that's because someone out there needs the spreadsheet to look good. It doesn't need to be like this, but there are a lot of people out there getting rich off of it being this way.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

I really hope they found a way to get him in as an extra, just in the background of a scene or something. It would be great if they managed to keep it under wraps until the premier. Kyle MacLachlan too. -
They...they look like maxi pads.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

I am VERY excited for the new DUNE. I'm one of those people who actually likes the David Lynch movie, but I definitely think it deserves this remake. Apparently Villeneuve decided that this needs to be TWO movies to really give it the proper depth and I couldn't agree more. -

I thought it was good. Not one of the stronger Pixar entries but I'll still watch it again some time. -
I don't know about that. I think for Larry it's just going to be about the best opportunity. Most teams aren't going to pay him any more than the Sabres would. It's just going to come down to whether or not he wants to stay here in the face of an offer from somewhere more interesting.

Jeanneret predicts that he will retire after next season.
darksabre replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
This was the same for me in the 90s. Jeanneret on my walkman, trying to stay awake to hear the end of the game. I distinctly remember the series against Ottawa in 97. Effing Ron Tugnutt. -
You'll have to see what media conglomerate owns that local station. We get the same junk here. Sinclair in particular loves pushing out of state stories that fit their "brand" to all their affiliates. It's basically propaganda.

Pizza Plant by the arena okay?

I've got a cousin who is a corrections officer and his family is terrified for his health and safety. That's not a thing that just happens. Prisons are starting to see huge spikes in prisoner deaths from this. Prisons are our society distilled down to its essence, and they're in big trouble. Expect that to dominate the news in a week or so, people who were already serving just punishment being essentially condemned to death. Not great.

I love Rick. Like, real love. When he retires I'm going to cry. His voice is a piece of my soul. We're never going to be satisfied that the Sabres didn't win a Cup with him on the call. Hopefully they manage to at least win one in his lifetime. He deserves to see that happen.- 54 replies

I think this is a fair take on things. The system was already a mess.
-
I think the trick is that mortality rate was really never the concern here. They focus on deaths because it gets people to take things seriously, but over loading the healthcare system was the real problem all along, right? It was about avoiding a surge that results in death by health care system incapacitation. The disease itself probably isn't more deadly, it's the situational factors that make it so.

So I guess NYC interning more bodies than normal on Hart Island because morgues are overcrowded is just propaganda? They went from two dozen a week to two dozen a day. The effects of COVID seem pretty obvious, even for fact checking skeptics.
