I've got a cousin who is a corrections officer and his family is terrified for his health and safety. That's not a thing that just happens. Prisons are starting to see huge spikes in prisoner deaths from this. Prisons are our society distilled down to its essence, and they're in big trouble. Expect that to dominate the news in a week or so, people who were already serving just punishment being essentially condemned to death. Not great.

Jeanneret predicts that he will retire after next season.

I love Rick. Like, real love. When he retires I'm going to cry. His voice is a piece of my soul. We're never going to be satisfied that the Sabres didn't win a Cup with him on the call. Hopefully they manage to at least win one in his lifetime. He deserves to see that happen.- 54 replies

I think this is a fair take on things. The system was already a mess.

I think the trick is that mortality rate was really never the concern here. They focus on deaths because it gets people to take things seriously, but over loading the healthcare system was the real problem all along, right? It was about avoiding a surge that results in death by health care system incapacitation. The disease itself probably isn't more deadly, it's the situational factors that make it so.

So I guess NYC interning more bodies than normal on Hart Island because morgues are overcrowded is just propaganda? They went from two dozen a week to two dozen a day. The effects of COVID seem pretty obvious, even for fact checking skeptics.

New receiver was totally worth it, especially since Crutchfield has them marked down. Wow. These speakers just went from good to amazing. I'm a believer in Yamaha now. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022RS202/Yamaha-R-S202.html

Fortunately I was wearing a heavy (but very very very shabby) old flannel shirtjacket thing, so that kept me from getting burned. And it was cheap coffee, so no major loss ?

Sat down on the couch with my afternoon cup of coffee, dozed off with it resting on my stomach, startled myself awake, and spilled it all over myself. So I guess it's laundry day now.

Prediction for Dem VP candidate?
darksabre replied to Eleven's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
That's why it'll be interesting to see who gets tapped. If it's anyone like Klobuchar or Harris then reading the tea leaves will make it plain that party leaders don't think the left's social policies will carry them to victory. They're probably right, but I'm not confident given how badly they botched 2016. They should have been able to tell Hillary was a bad candidate and they picked Tim Kaine to run with her. Talk about uninspired. And then they didn't even run a good campaign on top of that. I hope the DNC does a better job this time. Biden, in my honest opinion, sucks, but he's popular with the base. So they need to pick a VP who can shore Biden up, and then actually RUN A CAMPAIGN. I still think it would be smart for the Dems to decline having any debates against the GOP ticket. I'd rather see them focus on reaching out to the people who want to vote Democrat instead of participating in a Trump-centric media circus. -
It's funny, all the reviews for these speakers said that they tended a little towards the "bright" side and lacked bass, but I'm finding the exact opposite. It's probably because my receiver is not the best quality, but I've found I have to push the treble up a lot to get these speakers to come to life, especially at low to medium volume (easy listening while I work). I've got a Yamaha 2 channel receiver (bluetooth! fancy!) coming tomorrow so it'll be interesting to compare the sound from that music-oriented receiver against this ~15 year old Sony AV Receiver that I picked up at Radioshack.

Oh it's making me crazy. Getting these speakers on some stands will allow me to center everything so I can stop losing my mind.

I think this is right as well, but only because it comes down to straight demographics. Hillary lost to Trump because no one liked her, not even the people who voted for her husband. Biden is a pretty dumpy candidate, but the base likes him. The people who will actually show up and vote like him. My Twitter is awash with 20-35 year olds who are big mad about Biden, but they still haven't figured out that their age group, my age group, sucks at actually showing up. And at the end of the day, politics is really only about the people who show up.

New speakers came today, KEF Q150s. I'm currently learning a hard lesson in room acoustics. These little bookshelves need room to breathe. Gonna need some speaker stands lol this is embarrassing.

Prediction for Dem VP candidate?
darksabre replied to Eleven's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
It's going to depend on how much the party thinks it needs the left. The Bernie clan is already shitting a brick (which I understand) and Klobuchar (or Harris) would basically be a signal that the party doesn't give a damn about the left in any capacity. Biden is already the centrist on the ticket and I don't think we need another, but I'm not in charge. My choice would be Julian Castro. He's young, left of Joe just enough to be an olive branch, and a minority. I think he also got completely boned in the Presidential race and would shine on the VP debate stage against whatever schmuck the GOP trots out, Pence or otherwise. I think he's the perfect youthful pairing for Joe. -
With Bernie suspending his campaign today, making Biden the defacto nominee, it's time to see just how much the Twitter "politics buffs" of my generation have managed to not learn over the last 4 years. I'm all in on pushing this party left. I believe in policies like M4A. I supported Warren and Sanders. But the left still doesn't seem understand that this shift wouldn't be easy. They thought the Democratic party would just capitulate to their ideas despite the fact that most of the party base is moderate. The party's most important voters right now still aren't leftist millennials, they're moderate minorities. And moderate minorites like Biden, and didn't like Hillary. What are you gonna do about that? It took decades for the GOP to push itself to the extreme right and achieve its goals (as terrible as those goals may be), and that's with a base that follows with blind confidence. It's going to take more than two Presidential races to push the Democrats left, a party made of people who regularly self-doubt.

Report: NHL to potentially return in North Dakota in August

They really just need to throw in the towel on this season. It's over. Write it off. They never seem to have a problem with it when the CBA is on the line... -

They launched em here in WNY like two years ago maybe? They've been a big hit. We wish we were Canada. -
