It wouldn't surprise me if Reinhart was a problem for Jack. I know Sam, at the very least, loves himself some video games. So does McCabe. Maybe Jack is his best when on a certain schedule and Sam (and others) was disruptive to that. I also wonder if part of Sam's turnaround was Jack putting his foot down? Could Sam regress without Jack's daily influence? Maybe something Botterill is worried about... Paul Hamilton is irrelevant to me. I'd love to believe that what Jack and Ryan were up to was a joke, but that's not what I've heard. edit: I should clarify that I think the fistbump thing was overplayed by sports twitter. But the idea that there was no friction between them doesn't square.

Sometimes I wonder if Eichel is the kind of guy you just throw into things headfirst and let him try to figure it out. The whole "mentor" thing really doesn't seem to have been a good idea, nor was the attitude of the squad in general. Although I think part of the failure of the mentor model was the players that were brought in to fill those roles. Not exactly Sabres/NHL legends/role models. Especially when the coach is a joke and the players all know it. I think the last half of last season really showed him (and Reinhart) maturing and taking responsibility for the team. The old guys weren't there to take the flak.

I'm not buying it. I believe what I've heard about O'Reilly being frustrated with Jack but Jack not having a problem with Ryan.

He's a rookie. This should be expected. It's why we all wanted him to sit this season. If he survives the season and comes back in the fall doing the same things then, yeah, this experiment is done.

I really didn't think Allen looked that bad yesterday. At least not for an undeveloped rookie QB playing behind a bad line and with a trash receiving corps. The only bad play he really made was that pick he threw when he should have just thrown it out of bounds. He might actually get better if he can survive long enough to start really processing the game. His reads at the line need some work, but that could come along in time. I'm more mad about how bad the rest of the team is. And when your coach takes over for defensive play calling in the second game of the season, you have management problems.

I don't get the logic behind that. I think if the ball comes loose in-bounds it shouldn't matter where you are physically.

I don't think I like that explanation. I think that should have been a live fumble.

Really glad our coach and GM know what they're doing. Hopefully Allen doesn't get killed today and lives to play another game.

I had heard about it before the article that came out a few weeks ago. Dude is pumped. I hope he can be productive in some way. I see him as a quiet leader who isn't being assigned to the role. There's a difference there. He's not being foisted on the kids, who I think would have preferred to have been left to sink or swim the last few years instead of dealing with Moulson, Gionta, Gorges, etc.

I think most of them are figuring it out. Pominville is downright giddy for the season to start. I think he's seeing the kids in the same position he was in back in the day and he's excited to be the veteran guy in the room for them. I think the previous vet group largely failed.

I couldn't say the last. Just the last I've heard about. His problems are also the most easily managed. He's fine. The rest of this team's problems are immaturity.
