  1. That's a fair distinction.
  2. Haaaave you met Texas?
  3. I think owners care more about players when the cash flow is good. Imagine if the Sabres had been bad when the team was founded back in the day. Imagine if no one bought tickets? Maybe the Knoxes wouldn't have been so nice... Look at Ottawa. The ownership there is ruining things at both ends. They care so little about their players that they're ruining the team which is hurting their cash flow and making them care even less about the players. The snake is eating its tail. What about when the Sabres were a mess? Or Chicago? Or Florida? I think when ownership is raking in the green they might feel motivated to turn on the good will. But I don't think it's a given.
  4. The pool continues...
  5. It's kind of a necessity though. Players are kinda tight-lipped on record so you have to pry. Off record is different. But in front of the mics I think they try to watch what they say.
  6. What the heck is that
  7. I think I'm trying to soften the hyperbole you're railing against, no? I do think, though, that bad behavior by business owners with respect to their employees is too often couched in "business decisions". That's 80's capitalism stuff. We live in a different era now. It's irresponsible to ignore the human aspect of "business".
  8. I always find the "Mr." thing weird when players talk about owners. I think in some cases it's genuine respect, and other times I think it's more of a fear based/subservience thing. I can think of a few guys where the respect is probably genuine. "Mr I", Mike Illitch, comes to mind. I think the Knoxes were probably down to earth enough to be approachable.
  9. I mean, if they can't use the video to identify the guy then they're probably justified in turning down your offer. Next time just lie so they have to take a look ?
  10. The number one concern for owners is ROI. Any player who isn't playing due to injury isn't earning his keep. I won't go as far as Hoss and toss the idea of slavery/indentured servitude/etc around because the NHL isn't really like it was back in the 60's anymore. But I think calling the relationship "pragmatic" is a little...soft? Remember what they did to Teppo when he had heart surgery? Hell, Bauer invented quick-change skate blades because the owners and their bean counters were annoyed that players had to leave the ice to get skates repaired or change skates. Those are valuable ROI minutes down the drain.
  11. Did you see the blood pouring out of Ekblad's face? Domi got him hard with that un-gloved right hand.
  12. Played a pickup skate with some new people at Lockport last night and blocked shots off the tops of both feet. I'm just feeling lucky today that my left foot isn't broken. Now I know why D-men wear those little plastic covers.
  13. Nothing better than earning a suspension in preseason.
  14. It might not be a thing. I'm just spitballing. You gotta figure he's trying to upsell everyone right? That would be problematic.
  15. I think there are a lot of factors going in to the bargain rate. His slow start, his attitude towards being coached/admitting he had changed his game, off ice stuff. I think he has a lot to prove still.
  16. Jesus. Get that Doctor's name and report them to...someone? Who deals with opioid abuse awareness in your area?
  17. Right. And I think a lot of conservatives would argue, vociferously, that they are under no obligation to tolerate certain things regardless of familial binding ties, love, etc. The trick is that liberals often don't exercise their prerogative to do the same thing, and when they do the jokes come out about the "hur hur tolerant left" and "snowflakes". Damned if you do, damned if you don't, on the one way street of tolerance. At least from where I'm sitting.
  18. Hm. I'm not so sure. Let's take a friend of mine. She comes from a very conservative Catholic family. She is gay. Her family has essentially disowned her because of this. She would certainly prefer that not to be the case, but love does not appear to be winning out on the other end of that binding tie. So what is my friend to do? Continue investing emotional capital into a one-sided relationship, or cut her family loose as they would have her cut loose from them? Sometimes there aren't enough bandaids to cover the deeper wounds in relationships. Nothing personal against you, but it appears that for you and your family, there are currently enough bandaids.
  19. Here's the thing. I know it's become a meme on the right about the "tolerant left hurr hurr" suddenly being no longer willing to tolerate conservative staples like racism, xenophobia, bigotry, white collar crime, fascism, etc. But there is a ring of truth to that meme. Myself and plenty of my more liberal friends and family have been left with no other choice but to no longer tolerate various speech, actions, etc. perpetrated by longtime friends, family, etc. Let's talk about the bolded, because I think it provides a good example. At what point do you as a person decide that your dumb uncle pull tab and his racist nonsense is no longer something you can abide just because he's family? At what point do you decided that your family members who have trash political opinions are actually harmful and maybe even straight up bad people? At what point is love not enough? In my opinion society has reached a breaking point where "the ties that bind" are going to start failing because, to be perfectly honest, only one side is still putting the effort in to maintaining those ties, and it's not the right. It's not your Trumper uncle who hates PC libtards. He's not trying and never has been. So when do you stop tolerating his BS and just cut him out? I think a lot of brands are going to start making the same choices. A brand like Nike seems to understand who buys the bulk of its product and has decided that alienating uncle pulltab who only buys a pair of Air Monarchs every 4 years is not an issue for them. After all, businesses are people, right?
  20. One box worked fine at our last apartment. But at the current apartment our cat has taken to using the carpet at the bottom of the stairs as his litter box. So we had to put a litter box down there. Now it's the one he uses all the time, but he still occasionally uses the upstairs one. I will never understand.
  21. This is easily the most insane thing I have acquiesced to in my life with respect to pets. But it seems to make the cat happy so whatever. I want to decommission the second litter box but I'm waiting to see if he stops using the one at the bottom of the stairs during the winter when it gets cold.
  22. I remember trying to use my N64 on my tv and basically having an aneurysm. It looks soooo bad. That's why I like that a lot of games are being re-issued digitally or on these "classic" consoles, because I think they do some tweaking to make them look more natural on modern tvs.
  23. I don't know how anyone uses older consoles on modern flatscreen TVs. It just looks so much worse than it did back then. It's like the HD tvs are too crisp with their processing. The vagueness of older CRTs really made those old games look better/smoother.
  24. I don't game enough to justify a PS4 so this is perfect for me. Really excited for Ridge Racer.
