  1. Not the most discrete look. I'm looking for a brunette in a red trenchcoat wearing stockings but no skirt.
  2. Cinnamon-Cayenne brownies, had to wander around work today giving them away before I ate the entire 8x8 dish. The first thing you get is the cinnamon, which fades into chocolate. Then, the cayenne makes a nice little burn at the end.
  3. Saale no mobaarak! The internet tells me that's right, hoepfully I didn't call you a son of a motherless goat. :)
  4. Anyone in the King of Prussia PA general area Thursday night, I'm planning on going out the have a couple beers and watch the game. I'm not sure of the location yet but all are welcome.
  5. 1> is it? I work for a large company and they play musical chairs every couple months up top. My job doesn't change, I just keep getting stuff done. When I'm not posting here, that is. ;) 2> Which military leaders? I haven't been paying that much attention, but Gen. Allen is the only one I've heard mentioned and he's just being investigated. Patraeus isn't a military leader any more. 3 and 4> No opinion, they got some 'splaining to do. Businesses would probably be better off trying to figure out how to make money than whining about the government is stopping them. Many companies have recorded record profits over the last 4 years, they have it figured out. 5> Yeah, there were some of those in 2004 too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Vermont_Republic. I'll give it more consideration when they get to 1% of the population. 6> The twitter angle is fun, but Israel isn't going to cause WW3 directly. They may have to fight it out with their neighbors, but I really doubt they're going to pull any of the big powers into it. That'll happen when the US gets desperate and starts trying to appropriate resources from the rest of the world by force. I probably won't be around to see it though.
  6. The CEO of my company doesn't need to know how to run IT systems, just like the director of the CIA doesn't need to know how to be a spy. So far, Patraeus appears to have been able to keep his secrets, the other party blew the... cover. I like to think that many people can seperate work and home. I wouldn't tell my fiancee (or mistress, if I had one) anything about work, that's the most boring thing I can think of to talk about. The teehee bit is getting old, really. If you have something intelligent to offer please do. Senators (and probably Governors) have way more clearance than Top Secret. Patreus isn't in the military any more, but who knows when this all started. I think the FBI has even said they have no evidence that there was anything wrong while he was general, nor is there proof that he passed any info to Broadwell. The main mistake the man has made was to sleep with a woman not his wife. Which, I don't care much about. Sleeping with a woman that's apparently Bat-poopy crazy? That's more worrying.
  7. No kidding, thanks! youtube has a cool "Watch later" button now, and I have my PS3 tethered to my phone (and laptop, I think). Find stuff on the phone, tell it to play on the big-screen.
  8. Hey, that almost makes the National Championship respectable! :) It's tough to imagine there's more than 3-4 teams each year that can legitimately claim to be the best in the nation, and this should sort them out.
  9. Wait, what? College is going to a play-off format? I like it, frankly. You could easily go with 4 or 8 teams and it wouldn't be a huge deal. There can be all those other bowls for fun, of course.
  10. Deductable forgiveness paid in semi-soft cheese FTW!
  11. Word I heard was the funding wasn't going to cut immediately, so they'd be able to employ people long enough to send out the notices. As for the political angle, the one defense PAC I looked at leaned red other than 2008 and 2010. I'm guessing once they saw which way the wind was blowing, they donated to some Democrats in 2008. Can't figure out 2010, unless they were donating anti-Tea Party figuing the TP would try to cut everything. 2012 returned to Republican-heavy form. I was talking about this with the GF this weekend. She's taking a remote class in Media Studies (for lack of a better term). When asked to suggest a movie that "portrays contemporary American culture", one of her classmates replied with, "I think we should watch Tokyo Drift. It has lots of action and explosions. I think it's a good movie." (paraphrased, but the writing style is spot-on). Sadly this isn't a glaring outlier from the rest of the responses. These are people that will likely get a college degree and then be counted as 'underemployed'.
  12. FWIW, I just switched to Dairyland for my bikes. It was significantly cheaper than my previous bike insurance, which was significantly cheaper than Nationwide before that. I'll be investigating them for my home and car soon.
  13. When I was in college, I didn't watch all that much TV. I haven't had cable for a year now, and watch very little broadcast TV, so it's a similar situation. You'd be surprised how much stuff you just lose track of once you turn off the feed. People are talking about movies and stars and whatnot and I have no idea what they're talking about. I decided I needed to follow CNN on twitter just to have some clue about current events. I don't blame those kids at all. Most people (not just college kids) aren't going to spend hours of their free time reading up on current events (especially politics), they have other things to do (like living life). You're going to have to spell this one out, I have no idea who any of those people are. Agreed. While Lybia is important, it's not the only factor in the calculus. It's being hammered because it's the seen as having the best chance to siphon off enough votes. It's all conflicting reports now.
  14. That's fantastic. Great stuff! No home damage from the storm, woot.
  15. There's no Buffalo Vs. Phoenix GDT, so the only two active threads today are Politics and Weather.
  16. It says absolutely nothing about the regulations. For example, if there's a hole in my roof, I'm going to put a tarp over it before it rains because that's the fastest way to get it done even if it won't pass code. It's certainly not a solution I'm going to use in a non-emergency. As for the contractors, everyone with a pickup truck and a hammer will be a "Contractor" since there's a lot of money to be made. Sure, you'd like to think people would be honest and not rip people off with shoddy builds or just running with the money, but you know there are going to be people that do. Permits help sort those people out (somewhat).
  17. Yeah, the trucks are really the only ones that do that. I picked it up when I lived in Binghamton and used to drive to Buffalo a lot. On the bike, I give a 1-second high beam, since I can't turn the headlight off. I don't use it that much, since I'm generally the one doing the passing.
  18. This is the code as I know it: Flashing High Beams: Danger/cop ahead of you. Lights off and on to oncoming car: Your lights aren't on. Lights off and on when a large vehicle is passing you: You're clear to move back to the right. Blink of the flashers/lights off and on after a pass: thanks (in the dark)
  19. Looks like the Weather Modification Network was well worth the money.
  20. http://themoscownews.com/local/20101207/188261951.html Ooops, you're kinda right. Not quite $20-25k, but I midread the original article I used.
  21. While I have one of those too, I personally think this is the best flashlight you can buy for this kind of situation: http://www.amazon.com/American-CLIPRAY-ARCCR100R_SNG-Charger-Flashlight/dp/B003BYROUQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1351696252&sr=8-2&keywords=red+cross+crank+usb+flashlight Note that the USB charger isn't very powerful. Probably best to use the charger to charge a USB battery pack (it'll take a long time) and then charge the phone from that.
  22. No issues here. Power stayed on all night, basement is dry (it always is, the sump pump is decorative for my lot), and nothing came off the house. There's even a fuzzy bright spot in the sky to the South.
  23. You're more than OK then. :) Everything is cool here, storm passed to the south of me for the most part. Hopefully wjag is good, he was in the path earlier.
  24. That's cool. I'm not surprised though, parts of Newark are right at sea-level so the subways are below. The Path train in Jersey City has to be 100 ft below the Hudson. Yeah, it seems like the storm has mostly broken up without dumping a ton of rain here in SE PA, so it'll probably be dumping a lot of that water further North and West.
