  1. I wonder what they're afraid of.
  2. Heh, white dude in a suit at 1:25. And they apparently have different standards on lip-sync over there. It's not bad at first but towards the end it's really obvious. I do love the song though, I remember hearing it on this thread just before it went nuts.
  3. Pretty much what you said. What would have been likely a very minor accident for both parties becomes a huge hassle for one. Although you can't be too upset about screwing up someone's car that rear ends you. :) As someone who rides a motorocycle, though, I'd much rather slide into a flat bumper than a harpoon.
  4. So we're taking Miami's word on snowfall? I'll be ready for my 3/4" storm of the Century then. :) It wouldn't be the first time I've gotten some snow at my house. In 2010 we got two storms a few days apart (both top-10 for SE-PA). It wouldn't have been that bad if they had any clue how to deal with it around here.
  5. I'm curious which models you're talking about. Weather.com and accuweather.com (for instance) has Killington, VT in the 40s all next week. Where is all this snow going to fall if not there?
  6. I looked at some of my old papers awhile back. I think I did. :) Question 1: Is the current president a US citizen? That should weed out a few. ;-)
  7. Last time around I was driving thru Denver one morning, and FM morning radio guy says something to the effect, "Obama is a Muslim, his middle name is Hussein for crying out loud."
  8. Old Brooklyn: "Hey, yo, vinnie, what the ######, we got a hockey team now?" Coney Island: "Dah, we having the hockey now, Sergei and Tatianna." Park Slope: "I liked hockey before it was cool." Everyone else: "What's hockey?"
  9. Leaving the hitch on a truck/car all the time. What, you're worried that you're going to have to tow something and the extra minute to put the hitch on will be the difference between life and death? Is it some kind of macho thing, "Look, I tow stuff with my awesome truck!" even though the ball is shiny and appears to never have been used? Someone help me out here.
  10. At least it wasn't a tweet. Complaint: everything I've touched at work in the last 2 days has turned to ######.
  11. Someone could make up some conspiracy theories about ESPN being mad at the NHL or something, but odds are there's a market. There's no top-level hockey right now, putting that game on gives all hockey fans *something* to watch. Eyeballs on the set to sell ad spots.
  12. I'm not sure about that, at least in my experience. I'd be hard pressed to think of the last time I thought to myself and said, "I wonder what the priest at my church* would do?". It just doesn't register to me. I'm sure there's some general concepts lurking around back there, but what I've taken from religion is A> be excellent to everyone B> everyone has an agenda. But has his record as president really panned out that way? It doesn't seem like it to me, but I don't follow as closely as others here. Maybe he's one of those (rare) people that can see the difference between what's good for him and what's good for the country and how those might not be the same thing.
  13. Friend of mine just got moved to business development, so I sent him this for some suit ideas:
  14. Fedora optional. :) Men's Warehouse last year. Make sure you try it on after they alter it, mine were way too big around the waist.
  15. I haven't done enough to warrant a biography yet, WTF? :)
  16. Open up a terminal, and run: > cd / > du -sh | sort -h :)
  17. Looks like the weather is going to hold for my motorcycle camping trip this weekend. Riding up to Ole Bull State Park in PA. Not too far from Buffalo (or the listed home of Grand Master PA).
  18. The more expensive the hotel, the less they include. :) I know I saw this in the UK at either the Reading Rennaissance or the Marriot-chain near Portsmouth. In the us, I think the Holiday Inn in Baltimore Inner Harbor charged for wireless, although looking at the hotel web site it now lists that as "Initial Charge: $0.00 USD", so that may have changed.
  19. I'm not crazy worried about it, but with the amount of stuff that comes into the US in shipping containers, cars, boats etc., do you really think it'd be that hard to smuggle a nuclear device in? We can't stop people, drugs, or fake purses, how would we resonably stop this? http://en.wikipedia....nuclear_device) As for missle defense, that's also a pretty difficult problem. Modern missle systems are effectively in 'space' at the peak of their flight, and come down at many times the speed of sound. Hit-to-kill is just barely starting to work, and even then you just send up some decoys. Not to mention blowing up a warhead on the way down is going to spread stuff all over the place. If you remember, the US used Aegis to blow up a defunct satellite a couple years ago on some pretext. That was really saying "we can shoot down your satellites or missles while they're in space, don't F with us." That kinda covers a rogue small attack, but there's no way they're going to shoot down a full out nation-state attack. It's a hard problem. The "law of technology" would seem to say that eventually everyone will be able to launch missles that far (just like everyone can build a tank or airplane now if they want to, but that was once really difficult). You really need to approach it by stopping the launch before it happens (via intel) or MAD.
  20. Personal reason: I'm sick of this team. :) Depends on which way the coin tosses go.
  21. WW2 also reduced the post-war labor pool although not by that much. The ~500,000 US dead was well less than 1% of the population. But most of those were men that would be looking for a job right at that time (18-25). Less supply, better wages, which drives the multiplier again.
  22. Yeah, we all wish the PP was better, but top half of the league more seasons than not since the lockout isn't anything to scoff at. I'd also mention that pre-lockout, you had three years of dregs and then 4 years of lower talent teams with the best goaltender in a generation. I'm not shocked the PP sucked those years.
  23. I'm 6'2" 235 and *am* resistant to the cold. :)
