  1. And if they're willing to force him out due to mental instability, that's one incredibly slippery slope.
  2. It's an impossible question to answer. Like you suggested, it completely depends on which city you wind up in. Do you love the city? Do you hate it? And then there's the most important question of them all.... What does the wife think (assuming there is one at some point)?
  3. I'll chime in on this one. It looks like a spot certainly will be there for the taking. They've got 5 d-men under contract for next year. I could see them re-signing Greene, but Willie Mitchell is probably at the end of his career. So I'd guess that he would have a decent shot of at least sticking as the 7th guy. He definitely fits that physical mold that they seem to like.
  4. I was going to suggest Austin sticks in London as an over-aged player, but apparently he's a year older than I originally thought. I wonder if we might have other candidates for this option. Maybe I'm imagining things but I feel like this has happened before.
  5. Do we have to revoke another man card for wanting to see the ring?
  6. Do we have any other than Zadorov and Ullmark who don't count against the limit since they'll (most likely) be in juniors and Sweden? That is how it works right, they only count the guys actually in the NHL/AHL/ECHL?
  7. Most people have stuck to a list, but I've thrown out random facts here and there in separate posts. Maybe I'll try to string together a few now. 1. In the three years since I met my wife, she has had at least 7 people in her extended family die, including her father after a battle with cancer that pretty much started right when we met. She also had a niece born with a heart defect. Sometimes I wonder if I've somehow brought some bad luck upon her (it must be the Buffalonian "we're cursed" mentality). I don't put much stock in it though since it is a pretty crazy idea. That and her extended family is much larger than mine. There's also been more babies born in that time than people who died. Circle of life and whatnot. Oh, and the niece is a perfectly normal baby now. 2. An extension of #1, ever since I met her, there has been at least one pregnant woman in our families every single day we've known each other. I'm not looking forward to the moment the next baby pops out and then people ask if we're next. I have no problem with having kids, we're just not ready. We rent in a fairly urban area and neither of us wants to raise a kid in that atmosphere. We are both products of very rural areas, Boston, NY for me and mountains in NH for her. We both agree that we want to own a house before going down that route. 3. I'm about to lose the last major string that would draw me back to the Buffalo area for a few visits a year. I'm pretty sure that this July will be my last trip there for a long time. Two potential employment issues may wind up blocking that trip though. I still do not consider this Boston, MA area my home even after spending the majority of the last 14 years here, so this is going to be a strange change for me. That's it. 3 is all you get. I don't like lists but I did the best I could. The last sentence of item #8 really hammers home that point.
  8. The cutoff is defined as $375,000 above the minimum salary. The minimum salary for each season is explicitly stated in the CBA. So any fluctuations in the cap will not change that cutoff.
  9. Wait. Are you telling me that Wilbur isn't actually a squirrel chasing dog? You've just ruined my entire world. :censored:
  10. Or you could look at it this way: Doughty - 24 Subban - 25 McDonagh - 24 So outside of Chicago, three of the final four's top dmen are 25 and under.
  11. I just watched an old man with a cane walk out into a busy 5 lane road without looking. The guy was moving at about 2MPH tops. He wasn't at a crosswalk, just decided to walk in the middle of the street so he could catch a bus. This of course resulted in several cars screeching their brakes and honking their horns. This guy's very lucky he's not dead (not that he cares). He was crossing at a partially blind turn in the road. You've seconded the motion. It's time to put it to a vote.
  12. Maybe I'm a little too picky, but for the most part, I want no part of any place where I have to raise my voice in order to be heard. There are obvious exceptions like sporting events, but I generally stick to that rule. If I'm looking for a place to have a drink, I'm a bit sick of the crowded and loud places. I'll gladly stick to the house or outdoor patio setting for drinks.
  13. I think this post may call for a mandatory review of your man card rights.
  14. This is an important detail that has been lost in this discussion. Yes Zemgus made the jump to the AHL at a young age, but he actually did have a full year of AHL hockey under his belt when he did that. Ristolainen could very easily wind up the same way. Unfortunately that is something that isn't available to Zadorov until he's older.
  15. To be fair, you did leave that 0.1% of tattoos that don't look awful. Bio still has a chance.
  16. They are definitely a different breed and on a completely different development curve (which unrelated, is a big reason why bailing on 24 year old Hackett right now is a bad move). Corey Schneider is the perfect example. There were several goalies in Hockey East who looked better than him, yet he was the one that was the first round pick and he's now an NHL #1. Those other guys haven't been able to escape the ECHL and a few are now coaches.
  17. My issue is that the road from the ECHL to the NHL is a very short one. You won't find a very long list of currently goalies who have done that. Granted, that list does include Jon Quick (strangely enough, that seems to be their way in LA), but it's still a tall order. He wasn't exactly buried behind a wall of talent in our system either when he was sent down there. He may very well have a future, but I just don't see this can't miss prospect that some around here seem to present him as.
  18. They need to have the Aud zamboni door on stage with him.
  19. I was wondering how long it would take for this to be mentioned. When I first heard 2015 I assumed December. That is going to be a quick turnaround to get this ready. They obviously did their homework though. This isn't Total Recall. Two is all you need.
  20. This one is all too familiar. Oh how I love the wife's daily rants about her school day. She goes on for about 30 minutes without even stopping to breathe. Then when she asks how my day went... "same as yesterday". I like efficiency and that message says it all the vast majority of the time.
  21. I'm with you on this one. If he got his 9 games last year and gets another 9 games this year in the NHL, he's on the express train to the NHL the second he leaves the OHL. His only significant AHL time is going to be if London makes an early exit from the playoffs next year. Unfortunately, since they're one of those power teams, they'll be making their annual deep playoff run.
  22. I'm still not completely sure how much of a point there is to a story about someone preparing a bid. We can very easily put together two or three other groups who are doing the same exact thing. I will say this though, anyone who does so will be looking for personal gain. That's just the way it is.
  23. I'd almost expect him to go back to the US developmental program first. He's been out of the college circle for about 10 years now, and even there, he was never more than an assistant coach. I bet he could go back to BC as they recently lost their long-time assistant coach. He could quickly become the next in line for the eventual retirement of Jerry York if he played his cards right.
  24. I'm still waiting to see this professional sports owner who isn't interested in money. I hear he has a cameo in the new X-Men movie.
