It's not just 1 year. It's 1 year of a player that has a NMC, so if he doesn't want to go where Chicago thinks it has a deal, Chicago doesn't have a deal. Getting back what Reinhart returned might very well be the ceiling on a deal if there are only a couple of teams he's interested in playing for. (No idea on where he'd be willing to go. There may be more, or he may only want to go "home" if he has to leave the team he's been very happy w/ for a long time but is now switching gears.)

A Kane signing does not make the Sabres a high budget / cap challenging team even IF Adams makes the other signings/trades we've been discussing for months. It makes them a midrange team which would still have a lower team cap than most of the league. Doubt a trade happens, but as @dudacek, @tom webster, and others have said, if it does it isn't a case of Adams foregoing his plan nor does it mean he's somehow transmorphed into Murray.

Whatevs. It's another random guy's ranking and if it has Jiricek ####ty enough to be the guy that should be available when the Sabres are on the board, sweet. Not expecting that to happen, but would be ecstatic if it happened as it would likely set the Sabres D for 45 minutes/game for the better part of a decade. But at the end of the day, whether it's a mock or a ranking or a customized ranking based upon individual teams needs or a customized ranking based upon a super secret highly complex algorithm developed after years of painstaking research, it really means jack but is something to discuss as the calendar rolls into summer and there are pretty much no sports after this week that are "must see" events. (Can watch a fair amount of summer sports, but nothing's getting DVR'd to watch sometime later. YMMV) 🍺

Which is why something along the lines of what the Canes got for Skinner is a reasonable presumption of the ballpark of what it would take to make a deal.

That's pretty bad. But don't they usually trade away their 1st & 2nd rounder trying to keep Crosby's window open? Would be interested to know (but not enough to look it up 😉 ) how many picks they've traded away in that span.

Perturbed is probably a good choice of word there because with it being the 3rd draft Adams has run we now know what he values in a player and should expect him to select those with the characteristics he values. Nobody is going to be irate at who the Sabres come away with (well almost nobody but the Liger 😉 ) but there will likely be some here frustrated at them passing on a guy that's fallen to them that wasn't expected to be there. But would be surprised if the bemoaning of it rises to ire. There are some guys they simply aren't going to draft.

IF they go after him, both Adams & Granato, 1 of whom who has actually had extensive experience seeing him every day and the other has likely spoken with him as it's hard to believe their paths haven't crossed on occasion, will have decided that the pros outweigh the cons.

Wonder if the selections were made simply to get the Buffalo fanbase up in arms and clicking through. Rightly or wrongly, Buffalo fans in general have a reputation for taking the bait.

The majority of that was assists. So, could see him with Skinner, Olofsson, or Peterka on the other wing. (Not all preferentially play LW, but imagine they'd be willing to make it work playing w/ 2 playmakers.)

By HIS standards, it was a horrid game. He gave up 4 goals on the 1st 7 shots. As you said, at least 2 of those were bad and he normally would've stopped 6 of those 7. Yes, he got better as the game went on. But, whereas Ward worked though the butterflies in the 1st 5 minutes of the game, it took Vinc nearly the entire 1st half. And unlike game 2 where Vinc was often hung out to dry in the 4th, his D did a good job limiting high danger chances and shots throughout. Goaltending was the difference in the game and arguably the series. Had you said that would be the case heading into the Finals would've agreed that it would. But did not expect it to be a difference maker for the Mammoth.

If they did have Kane, would be more inclined to put him w/ Mittelstadt leaving the Thompson line alone. LH C vs RH C. Not sure who would go on that other wing. +/-'s for any of Olofsson, Krebs, Asplund, or one of the kids there. (Hinostroza too if he comes back.) Probably an academic exercise anyhow.

IF a trade were to happen, don't see the Sabres giving up any more than what they did in '18 to pick up Skinner. That was Pu, a 2nd rounder in the next season's draft & a 6th rounder the year after that. So, w/ that being the benchmark, it would be something like R2 Rou2 or Biro, the Vegas 2nd, & a 6th or 7th in '24. IF that's all they give up or they give up even less AND they're comfortable on the character questions, then fine. Will get them to the floor w/ no questions about later in the year & won't deplete any non-replaceable assets that fit into the LT future.
