The corollary is that it's still relatively early in the season and even an modest win streak can bump up the win % significantly.

Out of all the teams in the wildcard race, only Buffalo and Philadelphia are on winning streaks (both W2). Montreal is the only other team in the race that did not lose their last game. We've got a lot of teams to pass, and none of them are perfect teams. They all have their warts. If the Sabres can work themselves out of this injury hole *and* beat the teams they should beat, playoffs are possible for this team.

This line played its fourth line role very well. It played hard and tight throughout the game. Kosak fits in well on that line. He is solidifying his spot on the team.

You have to be on something completely different at that price. Even their new streaming service that includes all the espn networks is $30 a month. Do you have the commercial free versions Disney and Hulu bundled in to get that price?

Samuelsson was constantly plagued with lingering injuries, and it affected his play to the extent that the enraged mob wanted to get rid of him for nearly nothing. Now he is playing well in a first pair role. Let’s not reflexively throw out a potential asset out of frustration with his past history riddled with injuries. Just be more patient and you may be rewarded. There are no guarantees for him or any other player on the team.

They dug themselves a big hole. They have stopped digging and have pulled themselves up to NHL .500. That is a decent 1st step. Now they need to somehow drag themselves to DeLuca .500. It would be great if they won their next 4 to get there, but even if they get there by game 70, they would have a shot to make the playoffs with a strong finish. I’m generally a glass half-full guy, but I’m skeptical that they will find the level of consistency needed to do this.

Upl finally played a good game. Don't expect him to be able to keep it going. Hope I'm wrong. Hopefully the separating of tuch and Thompson experiment is over. They play there best hockey together. You get more bang for your buck when they play together

Only two teams in the Atlantic division have a positive goal differential, Tampa and Ottawa.

They actually were pretty good: Corsi: 20 for, 6 against Fenwick: 15 for, 6 against Scoring chances: 8 for, 4 against expected goals: .65 for, .52 against. They were better possessionally that whoever the Sabres put out there against them. They were Carolina's best line. They just didn't finish.

Not sure what filters you used, but in UPL’s 5 games prior to tonight his save % was .881. Until tonight he had had only one game of the 5 with a save % over .9. In 3 of the starts his save % was a terrible .875 or less. Tonight was his best performance by far. Lyon has had an over .900 save % in 7 of his 12 starts. He did get shelled in Col. Frankly, I don’t trust any of the 3 to give the team quality consistent goaltending.

I say this every year but few people listen. Don't look at the points, look at the win percentage. That's the stat that matters for making the playoffs. Right now they are 7th from the bottom of the league. Third from the bottom in the conference. Second from the bottom in the division. So it's basically exactly the same as every year.

Why would you break up a first line that has shown consistency and chemistry? Doan is older, bigger, stronger and has shown a higher propensity of scoring the puck. Qualities you look for as a first line winger. Seven to zero if your talking goals in 2025. Tages xgf is much higher with Doan than Benson. I think there is an expectation to elevate Norris and Benson to top six minutes? Why? If McLeod/Zucker/Quinn can get it done, then roll them out as FL#2. Ease Norris back in with 10-12 minutes 5v5 with Benson and Greenway. Norris gets some PP minutes, Greenway some PK minutes and Benson a little of both.

8 of the team's next 10 games are on the road, including 6 straight 5 of 6 out West. If they can win 5 of the 8 road games, then I'll have some hope for this team.

I was at work during the game but I watched the highlights. Malenstyn's goal was amazing on multiple levels. Obviously, his move around the defender and the one to score were nuts. The two passes by Kozak and Krebs were freaking awesome to see. Both make a play when they know they're getting hit. That's the effort I want to see more of on this team.

I just re-watched the disallowed goal in the 1st. Benson’s skate hits the goalie, but it’s a Carolina player’s skate that actually impedes Anderson. It was a terrible call. The “situation room” should have reviewed the play like they did on the Thompson play without the Sabres wasting a challenge.
