The pitching is hanging on fine, mostly, but the bats are all cold at the same time. They have a problem, but I think they manage to hang on to not only the East, but the 1 seed in the AL ... straight to the ALDS with home field. The world in their oyster and they are in the driver seat. Sherser (?????) should not have been in the rotation for at least two weeks now. Sorry to say it about one of the best of all time.

I still think they take it, a lot closer than it looked mere days ago though

You can tell from my avatar and screen name that I'm a big fan of the song, album, and band! I would love it as a goal song, but I'm not sure the appeal would be universal enough. I thought the list of options were pretty weak and went with the Metallica song by default, as it's the only one that I thought was close to being a good option. I think the song they're using for the Goathead games is far better than any of the options offered for the Blue and Gold games.

So, when's the parade ??

If all 3 of the healthy guys continue to play well over the next 2-44 games, a BIG if, wonder if they'd hold off on getting UPL any game action in the preseason to be able to send him down to Ra-cha-cha on a conditioning assignment buying themselves a bit more time to make a move with one of the 3 guys that would have to be waived to play for the Amerks. Of course, with Reimer getting claimed last year trying to send him down late, they might decide its best to waive goalie 4 (Levi is 3 unless he earns 1) at the roster cut down day to try to sneak him through when there are literally 100's of names on the waiver wire. Will be interesting to watch either way.

They might keep 3 goalies up but if both Lyon and Georgiev are playing well you try to trade UPL (unlikely with his salary) and if there's no trade you waive him and send UPL down. Nobody is picking up that salary unless they are goalie desperate at the moment. If there is someone goalie desperate there's your trade. Otherwise, obviously if Georgiev or Lyon are not playing well then you just waive one of them. No big deal.

I can see this happening too (especially if this team fails again this year) but if Jarmo is made GM would he hire Appert as coach? If he did, that would mean he's just another Pegula puppet. Otherwise I'd expect him to work with his own people and a clean slate of all new coaches. That is the only thing that would give me hope for change. A new development guy is a good idea. It's been a weakness.

I attempted to clarify something for the MAGA brethren in another thread but the topic was shut down so I thought I’d clarify it here. Some in this forum seem to think that when I compare this administration to fascist regimes that I am making the comparison to the NAZI party and the NAZI party only. That is simply not the case. Perhaps it’s because I frequently cite Goebbels’s propaganda tactics? That is only because Goebbels is a readily recognized player in fascist history. There are others that I’ve studied over the years and they are all similar in their ideologies and tactics, especially where propaganda, the muzzling of the free press, and the control over mass dissemination of information over airwaves are concerned. I urge people to broaden their knowledge base and study the fascist regimes of Franco and Mussolini as well. Both had well funded and powerful ministries of propaganda in Spain and Italy, respectively. Both had politically astute and charismatic men heading up their respective propaganda efforts: Ramon Serano Suner in Spain was one of Franco’s Ministers of Press and Propaganda. Italy had guys like Galazzo Ciano and Alessandro Pavolini. You can bet the framers of the Project 2025 manifesto havE studied past fascist regimes. Far be it from me to convince MAGA to stop whistling past the graveyard and renounce anything this administration does or how they do it. But nothing informs like history and that’s all I’m doing; informing.

Faster yes, Have to utilize that though. Many if not most teams seem to be looking at big centers and some of them are slower. Sabres aren't small but overall they are not that physical so we will have to see how that works in a league that appears to be headed more towards the physical this year due to the Florida effect. and the cup winner is always a thing. The thing for me is we always try to be a possession team and we end up with lots of perimeter play. I truly believe this team would be successful if we did two simple things. One, emphasize physicality more (not every guy just a few bigger and tougher bodies) and two, play a simpler north south game. Dump it in and use that speed to chase. Heavy forecheck to create turnovers and then that dreaded drop pass might actually work if the D pinches with the forecheck. It's the Florida plan. It would work. This team is a little more physical. Not sure it's enough. Don't think it is. We shall see.

Interesting fact on Jarkko Ruutu is that he had absolutely fantastic grades from school. Something that might be hard to believe while remembering the way he was playing hockey.
