I’m in with Gov’t Muel again

I guess I just have to accept that Power is who he is. I expected a 6’6” 225# defenseman to have a lot more than 26 hits in 79 games. What a waste of size! He’s like a 7 foot NBA player hanging out at the 3 point line.

Who’s up for some Sabrespace Yahoo Fantasy Hockey for the 2025/2026 season? Let me know if you ‘re in or out. I’m assuming the Curt’s Team is out unless I hear otherwise since he was not an active participant last season. That would put us at 11 teams.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

Finally got to watch Togo with the family. Great movie, cutting onions at the end. -
Brett Murray to me was a guy who should have been more than he was. All that size but he just didn't have the desire to use it.

No. First, I don't WANT to do it, but you have to be realistic and look at who is possible. I could list off any number of preferred forwards but if they aren't on the trade block what's the point? Mitts would be a temporary fix until Helenius is ready or other prospects get the time they need. Second, it doesn't "undo" it since we aren't trading Byram to Boston for him. We'd have BOTH. Isn't that an even bigger win? I'm saying I'd make the call if Boston wants draft picks or a prospect/fringe player. Not trading roster pieces. Filling a hole.

Friendly SCOTUS. Yes, I agree. I hastily said SC when I meant the DC Circuit. I know you're aware it's the DCC. That's my bad. What's interesting about the DCC is that seven of the 11 members are democratic appointees. How in the hell did two of the four republican appointees get selected to a three member panel? Seems improbable. Anywho, the ruled how they did, we'll see if it's appealed. I assumed you were referring to LA because I agree with you there's a question of legality there. I did not think you were referring to DC because POTUS is the commander of the DCNG and can deploy them as they see fit, there's no question of legality there. I'm not sure what their role was, if they worked independently or in tandem with local police. I suspect the latter but I'm not sure. DOGE - I don't need a left slanted POLITICO article to realize I'm disappointed with how it turned out, I got there all on my own. I was captivated by it and was let down. Truth be told though I think it did more good than bad. -
Helenius, Mrtka and Ratzlaff. I am half joking but…. There is no sense of urgency from this FO so it just feels like everyone will want out and the next group of prospects will have to turn it around. My hopium prescription has run out, I am on my last bottle. Guys like Dahlin, Thompson and Tuch are pretty much at their ceilings, the young supporting cast needs to step up. My three guys are. Power. Just 10% more grit and take the next step. Be assertive and show your skill. Quinn. You were as good or better than JJP all the way through development, just do it. Levi. There is a spot for you if you show up with your A game and force KA’s hand.

The defiance of the Broberg ruling occurred well before the friendly SCOTUS covered for the DOJ, whose lead prosecutor and since appointed federal judge, instructed his staff to “F the federal judges’ orders.” The fact that the SCOTUS legitimized the action in the Broberg case is irrelevant, anyway. The DOJ did not follow our rule of law from the outset. The military in LA is not what I’m referring to, although it went against long established norms for deploying the National Guard, let alone marines on the streets of America. I’m referring to Trump’s deployment of national guard troops to patrol the streets of DC as law enforcement. Are you familiar with the brownshirts in 1930s Germany? How about Franco’s use of the military to police and maintain his control of Spain? Classic fascist behavior. I could list a number of other examples, but it would be fruitless. Instead, I will continue to share my concerns Speaking of which, how about some exposure of previously propagated DOGE crap? https://www.politico.com/news/2025/08/12/trump-doge-contract-claims-savings-inflation-00498178 - Yesterday

Defying federal judges - if you're referring to Broberg, his ruling was vacated by the SC. Deploying military in the streets - if you're talking about LA, ICE agents were under attack, Bass wouldn't allow police to assist in a timely manner, Newsome refused to send in the guard. That wasn't a peaceful protest, that was rioting and looting. Trump did the right thing sending in the troops to quell the riots when Newsome refused to do it. Was it legal? I have idea, but I support his decision. BLS director - i agree with you, it looks shady. They say in the article that quarterly reports will be used until they implement a system that will give accurate data in a more timely manner than go back to the monthly reports, we'll see. -
Texas senate passed the redistricting maps. The house will pass it as soon as they get enough bodies for a quarum. I thought it HAD to go through the house first? Guess not. It'll be interesting to see if Newsome/Hochul follow through with their threats to retaliate in kind. For those that live in New York, are there seats to be gained? I thought New York was already deep blue. https://www.texastribune.org/2025/08/11/texas-redistricting-map-vote-senate/

From defying federal judges to deploying military in the streets to replace local police, this administration shows example after example of fascist ideology. Now Trump’s BLS director seems to favor doing away with the critical monthly jobs report. Withholding, distorting, or creating false information is right out of the fascist playbook. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/08/12/trump-bls-jobs-report-00505025

You literally have a team known for identifying culture fits and sniffing out bad habits trying to dump him and you want in to that again? casey for Byram is one of the biggest trade wins in a long time. One is clearly serviceable, the other is being cast off from big team to big team after they actually get to test drive him. People like to crap on KA, but this is a huge move. And you want to undo it????

I think the league only steps in if there's bankruptcy issues which there isn't. From their perspective a rich owner is a rich owner and the league value of teams keeps rising so they really don't care. The NFL doesn't take over the Jets right? They should, but they don't and they won't. I think our only hope is he either has health issues with old age and decides to retire or he just gets fed up and gives it over to his kids who hire a director of hockey operations and let him run it while they just enjoy their luxury suite and other ownership perks. We have to face the reality that this is Pegula's toy and he's basically like a fantasy team GM but sadly for us he is the de facto GM and he never wins the office pool.

How so? I advocated much more change and wanted more veterans brought in but they didn't do it. I'm just looking at options that might be available still. Trying to be a realist given what we are dealing with from them. If Mitts is available and Bruins would deal him for picks, we have picks, we have cap room to pay his salary and we add a body to the roster so we get a little better. If Bruins want roster players I'm likely not interested.

Beefing him up would have been something the Sabres should have been doing with him early on too. This is part of the whole rushing the prospects problem. Sure, they have skill, but most of them aren't men yet and they get pushed around (or KO'd like Hathaway did to Cozens) and it messes with their heads and their game. We've made the same mistake with Quinn. Anyway, he's Ottawa's problem now. We have to find a way to keep Norris healthy and I have my doubts on that happening.
