Highly doubt Hughes is on the block.

I'm in the Vancouver market and you're wrong. They risk having him demand a trade if the season keeps sliding away for them. He said as much in the offseason, and Canucks fans see the writing on the wall. If a team can afford the price, he's available.

Do you keep reading this as one Canadian guy that wants to trade vets?

He isn’t according to the article.  They are looking to get younger.  Their biggest issue is how to keep Quinn in town if he wants to go East and play with his brothers.

Well the Sabres would be in the same boat, wouldn't they?  Realistically would trading him to the Sabres mean that he also would demand a trade?

More recently, he is sidelined with a new upper-body injury that started the 2025-26 season, which has already caused him to miss multiple games.

Norris has missed 21 of 22 games, a quarter of the regular season schedule.

Just don't get sucked into the Pettersson (the Center; how weird is it that they have two Elias Petterssons on their roster?) fallacy. Immensely skilled player but production and attitude have been an issue throughout his career. He has the skill to be a 100 point guy but he looks absolutely awful way too frequently and for too long for a guy with his talent. He's the kind of guy that would come here, probably start off hot then disappear if they're losing. No thank you.

Quinn is a pipe dream. I don't know what kind of clauses he has in his contract, but if he has any say he'd never come here. Plus I suspect there are teams out there with more ammo than us to acquire him.

Boeser might be an interesting name to bolster the top-6...again, unsure of any clauses in his contract.

Sherwood/Garland could be interesting middle six pieces.

Demko is a terrific goalie, but dude is hurt A LOT.

Not only that they have 3 guys with the same last name of Pettersson. Elias the forward Pettersson, Elias the defender Pettersson, and Marcus the defender Pettersson.

This would be an excellent trade, Garland plays exactly like Benson and Doan and Kozak, in fact he probably is more fiesty then all 3, he is always in front of the net and is an ass to play against. He plays just like Brendan Galagher.

I suggested on another site we trade Östlund for Garland, but I would trade Kulich too, either one is fine by me. There isnt room for both of those players moving forward, especially is Thompson is gonna be 1 center and Norris as 2. Vancouver wants centers so either one of these players would interest them. I just dont know if they trade for Kulich when he is injured, so thats why I thought Östlund.

This would be very similiar to the Savoie Mcloed deal so we know KA has made a deal like this before. I think an Östlund/Kulich would be a very good deal for Vancouver.

Would mean we would likely have to move out some cap to fit this in the future, especially with Tuch hopefully resigned. Might mean UPL needs to go.

If I remember, he is always a guy that gives the Sabres fits and scores against them or at least causes goals to be scored against them.

Josh Norris has a history of numerous injuries, most notably a recurring left shoulder issue that required three surgeries and caused him to miss significant time over the last few seasons. He has also experienced other upper-body injuries, including an oblique injury that ended his 2024-25 season. More recently, he is sidelined with a new upper-body injury that started the 2025-26 season, which has already caused him to miss multiple games.

Shoulder injuries

Recurring issue: Has dealt with a chronic left shoulder injury since playing for the University of Michigan and at the World Junior Championship.

Surgeries: Has undergone three surgeries to correct the shoulder issue.

Time missed: He missed substantial portions of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons due to the shoulder injury, which included a mid-season surgery and end-of-season procedure.

Other injuries

Oblique injury: Suffered an oblique injury in March 2025 that sidelined him for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

2025-26 season: Started the 2025-26 season with another upper-body injury that is expected to keep him out for a significant amount of time.

Other issues: Has also been listed as having other upper-body injuries, day-to-day injuries, and a COVID-19 related absence in the past.

And he missed 18 of 21 last season.

He's played in 4 of 43 possible Sabres games and he's finished 2 of 43.

If TNT can play center defensively to Ruff's satisfaction, then you keep rolling him there because Norris cannot trusted to play. And if he does play to his potential and remains healthy -- awesome.

Don't trade for Quinn Hughes unless you're a contender. He's walking to the Devils at the end of next season and the acquisition cost would be pretty ridiculous.

But it's nice to dream that Byram+ a couple things would get you Hughes for all of 2026-27 -- as you're 100% likely to lose either of them in July 2027.
