If Kyle Connor signs for the alleged 12mil x 8 years that's going around, that puts a hard cap impo on what Tuch could ask. But we shall see. At this rate, 10 x 6yrs would be exceptional and 10x 7yrs livable.

i think the annual number will be a smidge over $10M.

and I'm hoping it can get done for 6 years (possibly 5?).

If its 5 years that would be a huge win for the Sabres, cause then they can walk away if the fall off starts

He can easily get 5 years at $10M from better teams in FA.

No way of knowing that unless he hits FA.  If you are a GM do you want to hand out a 5 for 10(or even more) to a player who will be 30 at the start of next season?

Maybe he doesn't want to re-sign here.

Or there is not one thing that is going to get him to sign here vs not sign here.  Its a sliding scale with multiple inputs that you have to weigh against each other.

Maybe he wants to sign here but at $10m+ per year. If the Sabres don't give in he MIGHT sign that deal 'later' but he's going to wait them out and see if they up the offer.

Maybe he would rather play for a contender, so he got the $10m+ offer from the Sabres...and if the team is in contention half way through the season he'll sign it...if they are 10 points out of the playoffs come January he'll breathe a sigh of releif he didn't sign it.

Maybe he wants to be here, but the Sabres are only offering something like 5 years at $8m per year. He told them no on that deal, and he's hoping for a hot start to get the team to 'up' the offer. If they don't, he'll reluctantly leave.

Maybe the Sabres internally with the analytics department have decided he is worth a LOT less than Tuch, his agent, and even the fanbase think. Maybe the Sabres are putting a lower dollar ammount on Tuch, thinking the charts say a forward like him might start 'declining' before his next deal even starts.  Both the Sabres and Tuch KNOW he will likely get a contract from SOMEONE who will pay for past performance, not future performance, and while Tuch would like to stay in Buffalo ultimately he is going to look for someone else to 'overpay' him.

Probably 4 or 5 other scenarios other than what is listed above that can be in play too.

If Tuch were 26 years old, I would be a lot more worried about this than I am now. For me, the WORST case scenario is they announce something like they extended him for 8 years at $11m-$12m per year.  I would RATHER both sides let this play out than that.

A true dream start to the season.

No Tuch deal.

Benson out via a fluke injury.

Norris breakimg himself not even 60 minutes into the season.

Bryson in the opening night lineup.

Geertsen not only in the lineup but instrumental in the team giving up the game winning goal in the opener.

The PP picking up right where it left off last year, and the year before that, and (except for 6 or so magical weeks) the year before that, and ...

At least when you're at the absolute bottom, things can't go lower.  Maybe.

Kesselring is injured too

So the canary is wingless, with 5 broken bones, a concussion, and no health insurance.

You did it.  The Sabres goal song!

[Verse 1]
First to fall over when the atmosphere is less than perfect
Your sensibilities are shaken by the slightest defect
You live you life like a canary in a coalmine
You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line

[Verse 2]
You say you want to spend the winter in Firenza
You're so afraid to catch a dose of influenza
You live your life like a canary in a coalmine
You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line

[Chorus]
Canary in a coalmine
Canary in a coalmine
Canary in a coalmine

[Verse 3]
Now if I tell you that you suffer from delusions
You pay your analyst to reach the same conclusions
You live your life like a canary in a coalmine
You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line

[Chorus]
Canary in a coalmine
Canary in a coalmine
Canary in a coalmine

[Verse 1]
First to fall over when the atmosphere is less than perfect
Your sensibilities are shaken by the slightest defect
You live you life like a canary in a coalmine
You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line

[Outro]
Canary in a coalmine

Tuch should be dealt no way he’s going to want to stick around now - yes this Norris injury is that significant.

And KA should NOT BE MAKING ANY TRADES.

He has until Halloween then it’s time to clean house.

Which begs the question.  Can you get the best candidates for a GM job at the start of a season - I’ll be realistic and say Thanksgiving?

If the answer is “no” you really need to do this after the season - then that means if Tuch is traded it’s going to be by people not in charge long term.

Oh wait.  That would be Terry who’d probably make the trade anyway.  My bad.

Agree completely.

The players and the fans deserve better.

Bettman is a Pegula fan.

A competent NHL Commissioner would back channel Pegula to run Adams, Ruff, Appert, and the rest of the Sabres staff out of town to give the fan base hope.

Can we stop with this, “he has until” stuff? It’s over. He’s an awful GM. Can him now.

He can't clean house without having someone better that is identified and ready to take over.  That will probably be after the season.

He cannot let Adams make trades of key assets like Tuch, Byram, etc.  Adams is not a capable GM and has to go.  For Terry to think Adams can POHO and Jarmo GM - no to that too.

This roster does not look like a playoff team but maybe the team can actually compete and win a few games and the season can be about Benson, Kulich, Doan, Helenius, Kesselring, Power, and a TBD goalie all getting better?  That is what they need to happen anyway.

Game 2 is just hours away.

No when you have the worst GM in the league and that’s non hyperbolic you get better by simply sending him out the door. We aren’t just saying these things.

i don’t care how bad Terry is, Adams is a hugely problematic and destructive entity all his own. Try someone else - was obviously the correct course during the offseason. Anyone else would be preferable. Literally

Nonsense. I could get a one eyed blind dog with rabies, write trade ideas on treats and let him pick at random and it would be better than Kevyn Adams.

Adams should be fired, today.

Absolutely. Like, enough is enough. Two wrong don’t make a right, I get pegula is bad but good ***** grief. This guy Adams was on the phone saying he had no concern about Josh’s injury history. He is *not competent*. If there is 0.0000001 chances he’s feeding his ill-begotten opinions and strategies to the owner he must go

Get him the f*ck out of buffalo FFS. FFS!
