He's made it clear he thinks Alex wants to be here. First of all, will Alex confirm? Secondly, I think this effectively removes the crutch of "not our fault, player didn't want to be here". If Tuch doesn't sign, either Adams got played, or it's because the Sabres wouldn't pay him. Quote

IF Tuch doesn't sign a new contract with the Sabres, we've got WAY bigger problems than there being soft demand for tickets. Until the puck drops against the Rags without him having a new extension in place, will chalk talk of him not signing up to our fears getting the better of us, but at this point can't really blame those that do allow that to happen because there's legitimate cause for us letting our fears get the better of us. (Namely spending the entire off-season bringing as much of a 79 point operation back intact as was possible.) 1 Quote

There is now talk of the cap doubling in the next five to eight years. Players, especially top tier players, are starting to see the benefit of shorter term deals. I was told that an eight year deal is basically done but Tuch’s agents would like a shorter deal. My guess is that Tuch blinks before the start of the season. 3 Quote

My guess is that Tuch blinks before the start of the season. I'd love a shorter term deal from the Sabres point of view. If he went long term and got $8.5m per year (maybe more), with the cap going up so much that won't look that bad in a few years. But at the same time, I'd rather have the short term deal to take someone to 33-34 years old and then re-evaulate from there. Quote

As per my above post, I don't either, but the contract may or may not look that bad by the end of it if the cap does what they think it will. For example, lets say he got 8 years at 9m per year. That is a lot, and toward the end of the deal when Tuch is 36-37 its likely to look bad. I don't think its outrageous to say the cap might/should be at least $140m in 8-9 years from now (considering they are estimating it at 113.5 in just 2 years) Well, last years cap was $88m I think? A $9m deal when the cap is $140m is the same percentage of the cap as $5.6m was last year. That wouldn't be that bad. I know a lot of assumptions there, but you pay in the back end of a deal to get the guy signed up front. Quote
LGR4GM Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Reminder to everyone, Alex Tuch is signed for 1 more season. Quote
