Stads Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago I expect to be just as apathetic as am I today. We'll get some reports that the Sabres were "in" on some high level free agents. "They had a few conversations with Marner's camp." It will be spun by the PR department that Adams tried really hard to make the team better and turned over every rock or whatever buzz phrase they choose. In the end, they sign a fringe top 6 forward (insert name here) for more money than he's worth and sign 3 or 4 guys for 1.5 Million on a two way contract. Could it be better than that? I sure as hell hope so, but the transplanted palm trees haven't arrived yet Quote
Trettioåtta Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago One of the reasons we've linguered in misery for so long is because of the minimal moves Adams makes. New GMs make about the same number of moves in an off-season as he has in 4/5 off seasons. Quote

I have no freaking idea but the team as it is without another top 6 forward and a goalie is bottom 5 in the league. I guess it really does not matter, Florida is winning the East for another 3 years. How did they just re-sign everyone?? Quote

I'd be shocked of Ehlers signed with Buffalo - rumor has it, he was willing to be traded to BUF reently but wasn't interested n extending. Why would he be interested now? Why wouldn't he be willing to sign a new contract roughly a year ago but be willing to sign one now? Because he wanted to see what he's worth on the open market and that wasn't possible a year ago. Heck, Stamkos several years back took TB into the tamper period before re-signing with him because he wanted to know what he was worth on the open market and wanted to know that what he was getting offered by Tampa was fair. These guys typically only get 1 (2 tops) chances to find out what they're truly worth. If he was open to being a Sabre one year ago, why wouldn't he still be open to it. Surely @Sabres Fan in NS still shouts that he should sign in Buffalo any time he goes back for a Junior team reunion, right? So the bug is there in his ear already. 😉 Just need Adams to make an offer he'll consider worth accepting and have Kekalainen work his Gaudreau magic convincing him Buffalo is the place to be. And after Winnipeg all those years, it HAS to look good, right? 😉 Quote

I think he'll have a lot of suitors and as Adams said, "overpaying to get a player typically doesn't work well." So, the Buffalo technique is to wait and see who falls through the cracks. It worked out well with Zucker last year. Quote

It worked out well with Zucker last year. Well, it did and it didn't with Zucker. He was one of their best forwards last year (definitely in the top 4 or so). But the team still fell further back from the playoffs than they were either of the 2 prior years. So, on a microlevel it worked. On a macro level, at best it was too little. 1 Quote
