I love it that the Bills compete with any team in the NFL on the field, in the public arena, and financially. 

Whereas the Sabres are in an entirely different league than the Vegas/Florida/Colorado types. Truly a farm club for the real teams.

Cuz one team is a perennial superbowl challenger with Josh Allen and the other team is a perennial lucky lottery winner who would die to play golf with Josh Allen.

They are not allowed to talk to the players until noon tomorrow.  The tampering threat today with the Toronto stuff probably means that they're going to be a bit more strict about it right now.

Correct.  They had a "legal tampering period" for about 2-3 days prior to the new league year starting for a few years, but that is no longer a thing.  Don't recall the exact year they got rid of that, but it's been this way pretty much at least since the MOU was agreed to.

Careful.  There’s posters on here that will try to make you feel stupid and tell you 2nd rounders mean nothing.

Granlund lw/c 2/12millon
Ilya Samsonov g 2/4 million
Dmitri Orlov lhd 3/18 million

Byram traded for a 2026 1st rd pick to ANA, lottery protected

makes for a much better/much more experienced team and Granlund and orlov are character guys

I’m going to bring in the board’s  CBA Guru on this @Taro T, but I always thought under the existing CBA a player had to be on a team’s roster at the that season’s trade deadline in order to qualify for an 8 year deal.  So Toronto would be the only team that could do so in Marner’s Case. I could be wrong though.

2024 2nd for Beck

2025 2nd to Dump Clifton’s Contract and a player who was traded for a 5th on March 7th as another cap dump

2026 2nd for  JBD who was not given a Qualifying Offer

Beck and Timmons are good players but should have been acquired for 4th and 5th round picks

Yes, prior to the MOU a player needed to essentially be on a team for a full year to be eligible for an 8 year contract with his current club.  This was done to keep players from getting traded at the deadline and then become eligible for the 8 year deal.  This was supposed to be an incentive allowing teams to keep "home grown" talent as the team the player had been with was the only one that could offer 8 year deals; new teams could only offer 7 year deals.

With the MOU, they modified that and allowed players that get traded by the deadline to also be eligible for 8 year deals.

So, while the rumor was Vegas and TO were negotiating a trade for Marner because TO was going to press tampering charges, it is also possible that the reason they were negotiating was to allow Vegas to give him an 8 year deal even though technically they could only offer him a 7 year deal.

And as to somebody else's Q about teams interviewing upcoming UFAs, that practice was eliminated with the MOU.  (Was pretty sure hadn't seen that allowed since then; and that's because that is when the practice was removed.  Really don't understand why they did that.  It seemed to be a useful tool for teams, players, and agents.  Thus they must disallow it.  It made sense.  😉  )

I would hold on to Byram and you don’t want Samsonov he’s flipping terrible. Orlov’s best hockey is behind him so that’s a no go. But Granlund on the other hand is worth taking a shot on as well as Pius Suter

Free agents disappearing by the minute. There's not going to be much left except a Boeser/Ehlers bidding war tomorrow. I doubt the Sabres do much of anything.
