Bizarre take

Because the refs weren’t going to even up the penalties in the 2nd period and then swallow the whistles with 10 minutes to go in the third. (Exempting delay of game.)

I agree. I’d be more upset they didn’t come out in the 2nd and incite chaos and try to get 5 more goals to break their spirit.

I guess we found the Edmonton fan. That was one of the most blatant lopsided officiating performances I’ve ever seen. There were multiple blatant penalties right when the Oilers scored in the second period including one of the Florida players stick being held for 20 full seconds right before the goal in full view of the ref.

Then it happened again in the third period with Verhaegge that directly impacted the scoring opportunity.

Also, the first penalty that led to the first power play goal was questionable.

They ignored at least four or five clear penalties on the Panthers mostly in the second period.

So I guess yeah that’s a bizarre take. lol

You must have missed the first period.

There were bad calls and missed calls both ways. The reffing wasn’t particularly good, but it wasn’t biased or lopsided.

I watched the entire game. You couldn’t be more wrong, but hey it’s your opinion. We are both free to have them.

So, you’re rooting for Florida, then?

I’m okay with either team winning— I like Florida and I really like the way they are built, but I’d be okay with McDavid getting his first Stanley Cup. I was also really happy to see Skinner have a great redemption before getting replaced by Pickard again.

I just can’t stand when one team is helped along, which is exactly what happened tonight. I mean, you have Bettman saying that McDavid transcends hockey right before the finals starts. He obviously wants McDavid to get at least one Stanley Cup.

It's not like it's a SCF game - and that 3-0 score was at the end of the first period - against Edmonton. Did we expect the Oilers to sit back and take it?

Long gone are the days of expecting any team being able to hold a lead through two periods - if those days ever actually existed.

They showed a stat last night that this was one of only 7 times in history (back to the beginning), where a team overcame a 3 goal deficit to win a game in the finals. Last time it happened was 2006.

I agree with the general sentiment that leads are not safe like they were 20 years ago and that game tying goals with an empty-net are now a thing that seems to happen regularly. These are good things.  It makes for much better hockey. Last night’s Oiler win, was still a historical outlier though.

Further to this, sort of, in his post-game press conference Maurice made a point of saying that he thinks the goaltending has been incredible. He added that the statistics are telling him something different, but the quality of shooters in today’s game is so good that the saves being made are amazing. 10 of the 16 playoff teams will finish the playoffs with a save % below .900. This is also good for hockey in my view.

Sounds like you had money on the game. NHL officiating has been and always will be a disaster.  No way should any one call be scrutinized, the entire system blows.  The NHL doesn’t know WTF it wants to do with officiating.  Sometimes they say they’ll let the players police themselves, other times they call penalties when a player touches an opponent with their stick. Until the NHL figures out how they actually want the games called, I won’t bother to even think about it.  Garage league with beer league ideology and former minor league players with axes to grind, calling penalties on the teams that never gave them a chance.  Bush league nonsense.

I'll set aside the National Hokey League and NHL Rigged talk before saying: I am so impressed with what Edmonton did in coming back in that game after it appeared that they'd had their doors blown off and were going to lose by 5, 6, or more.

More impressive still? The Oilers did what they did in a game where they could not get McDavid away from Barkov.

Just incredible.

We need 7 games of this!
