Poor Dell, guy was so confident that he was going to be the starting goalie for the Sabres, spent all that cash to get new pads (which were pretty sweet) and now gets to wear them in Rochester backing your UPL.

He hasn’t been good. but hey he’ll probably blame the Sabres somehow.

So, how many players do the Sabres have to cut to get to the roster maximum, and is the NHL doing the taxi squad thing this season?

On their web page they have 2 goalies, 9 D (including the injured Samuelsson), & 20 F's (including Eichel, the still work visa challenged Jonson-L..., & Biro & Ogilvie that someone here has said are injured).  The team typically runs 2-8-13.  So, when Eichel & Samuelsson are officially on IR, they won't have to send any D down, though they might send 1 down.  If no D are dropped, they'll need to send at least 3 and up to 6 F's down (6 presumes Biro, Ogilvie, & the new guy are healthy & eligible).

They can't send guys that are on IR down, so there may only be 3 cuts until the new guy's work visa comes through.  (No data on Biro nor Ogilvie's injury status.)

Okposo is listed w/ the "A" but is the only one showing a letter at present.

No taxi squads for skaters.  The league proposed keeping a 1 goalie taxi squad which doesn't seem to have been approved.

So he won't be given the official "C", but for all intents and purposes, he is the captain, just not official.

I guess  you keep the letter open in case someone younger develops into the role as the season proceeds?

Honestly don't know.  It's possible that's a carry over from last season.  But, considering he and Girgensons wore A's every preseason game they were in (didn't fully pay attention to the other guys getting letters on occassion) pretty sure it's Kyle's team & Z is the other "leader."  Hagg wore an A once IIRC, but no idea who gets the 3rd A.

Expect they won't give anybody the C this year.

It almost seemed like the “A”s went to the most veteran guys. Pretty sure Pysyk also had one and Miller as well.

Dont recall Skinner with one, so that would disprove my theory.

It seemed they rotated that 3rd A throughout the D.  Didn't notice an A on any other of the F's, though when either Z or Kyle weren't in the lineup somebody else might have worn one.

So, 7 D plus the injured Samuelsson and now down to 19F including the injured Eichel (& presumably injured Ogilvie).

If Samuelsson goes to IR, they need to be down to 15F including IR'd Eichel + any other IR/non-actives.  So, still need to send at least 2 & up to 4 more F's down to the Amerks.

Presumes no waiver pickups over the next couple of days as well.
